  2. Heyy Kath, hope you are having a chilled weekend. Good to see your chart back! Incredible to see the domination of Addison Rae at the top rn, I have slowly been won over by the singles that she has released this era. In particular “Aquamarine”, which in retrospect deserved a higher peak than #7 on my chart but have since grown to adore even more, and I've also v much appreciated the aesthetic and general vibe of “Headphones On” too lately. Resistance is futile I fear.. Also wonderful to see some of my current playlist faves from cell m8, Sudan Archives and james K riding high. Wonderful to see NilĂŒfer Yanya charting with “Where To Look” - that gorgeous hook in the chorus gets me every time - feel like that (and the whole EP) is going to soundtrack my summer. Too many faves to mention actually but I'm also really enjoying that new Leon Vynehall single, he did a mini sesh on 6Music last night which was sounding good - hope the new album is of a similar standard.

Produced by the absolutely stellar combo of SOPHIE and Faris Badwan (of The Horrors). *.*
  4. Welcome to the first poll of summer '25! Thanks as always to @k👠th for the help in putting this together and for hosting last month. It's congratulations to Austria's HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys) who broke away from the chasing pack to secure the tiebreak victory for April with “Void”, the second single to be taken from their album The Silver Cage. Last month we also had a tie in the monthly poll, but this time just between two tracks - the new summer smash from Pangaea, “ManĂa”, which features Spanish artist Jazz Alonso, and the collaboration between ETotM stalwart TDJ and Parisian writer, producer and vocalist Clara Kimera on “On and On (You Lie)”. Please vote to break the tiebreak! The contenders for June line-up below and include a good healthy mix of familiar faces to the poll, including Peggy Gou who scored the number 2 ETotY for 2024, along with newer rising producers/DJs such as London DJ Kiimi and Sydney's Willo. The full 20 listed below and linked to YouTube and Spotify. Please take a listen and vote for your fave 3. Many thanks to @jimwatts , @Jade , @awardinary & @RabbitFurCoat for voting and commenting, as well as to anyone else who took the time to listen and participate last month - it is very much appreciated! 5. Well this is just absolutely gorgeous. The attention to detail in the production too, a towering accompliment to Polachek's immense vocals. *.*
  6. This is the strategy that I have the most deep concern over, it's essentially the one adopted by Cambridge Analytica in the 2016 referendum where you can quite effectively adapt your message in order to play to all crowds, taking whatever opinion you know will play the most favourably with a particular slice of the electorate even if it would really put off another. Reform are playing on the apathy that grows stronger in the political vacuum that we find ourselves in. They need to be called out for what they are: grifters. As for the death penalty, I don't believe that there is a strong consensus for it here in the UK - indeed it's a fairly polarised discussion, especially by those who have been the victims of or impacted by horrific crimes, clearly. However, I feel incredibly strongly opposed to it and furthermore feel that there is no place in a civilised society for it. Tell me why has Ian Huntley tried to take his own life many times? Could it be that rather than giving in to our very basic and reactionary instincts of revenge, that the ultimate justice is having to live with what you've done for the rest of your life.
  7. I voted 'Left-wing'. I definitely haven't always been in that category throughout my life, though I've always had strong liberal views and beliefs. When I was younger I would have put myself in the more centrist category on economic issues, but I think that changed significantly after the 2010s and I've gradually drifted more left on that area over time. I now firmly believe that critical assets (water, energy, rail/public transport/major infrastructure) that are a public good* - should be owned by the public and ran not for profit, but for the benefit of wider society with investments to safeguard their operation into the future. I do think that the wealthiest should pay more towards improving the outcomes for the wider community (be it public third spaces, health outcomes, or education), and those who are able to, pay toward providing a robust safety net for those who are unable to work. Honestly, the 2017 Labour manifesto was the first that has ever chimed so well with my values, and will always be incredibly sad to me remembering how close we came to genuniely getting that. *and natural monopolies.
  8. I wasn't sure which genre to put this new single in, but this new single from Brittney is more of a dancefloor orientated serve compared to her usual flair but I'm loving it all the same. She's described this as orchestral Black dance music and it melds her incredible violin playing and vocals with frantic club beats.
  9. The synth that drives through this reminds me of Boards of Canada or Aphex Twin's “Rhubarb”, gives a real melancholic vibe to the whole thing. <3 So many great touchstones of early 90s shoegaze and artists like Cocteau Twins in all of her work. Really looking forward to this album!

  11. “Out Of The Blue” entered the UK singles chart the same week as “Windowlicker”, just 2 places apart (14 and 16). It was also the week that I went to Our Price to buy the New Radicals single “You Get What You Give”, I only had enough money for 1 CD single, and I've still got it.. that kick started my love of the charts and I started my own personal chart later that year. Sadly most of the charts 1999-2006 are lost to time as my Dad threw away all the paper copies I had when they moved house. đŸ˜„ Just over a month later Veracocha (another Corsten alias) came out with another of my 1999 favourites “Carte Blanche” which peaked at #22 - joining the absolute classic #22s of the 90s like “Papua New Guinea” and “LoveShy”. As for my favourite single, it's probably Joy Division's “Love Will Tear Us Apart” - it was introduced to me by my Dad singing "Giggs, Giggs - will tear you apart" in the early 90s. I've been lucky enough to see it performed live by New Order at Latitude festival in 2016 and it was an absolutely amazing moment. I also have the 40th anniversary 12” vinyl of the single released in 2020 framed. That makes it.. 45 years!
  12. James K has announced her new album Friend which is due out 5th September on AD 93. Last year she spoilt us with the spellbinding “Blinkmoth (July Mix)” and “Hypersoft Lovejinx Junkdream” - this following up 2023s wonderful collab with hoodie “Scorpio”. The two singles from 2024 are on the new album, along with this brand new single “Play”. So pleased that she's finally got the album announced as I've pretty much been obsessed with everything she has released over the last few years. <3
  13. There's another new single out today called “Where to Look” and she has confirmed that both tracks are from a new EP called Dancing Shoes out next month (2 July)! I think she's supporting Lorde in the autumn if anyone is going to those tour dates in Europe. Video appears to glitch out a bit in the middle for me. Gorgeous hook-y chorus on this!
  14. TDJ/Clara Kimera, Sofia Kourtesis/Daphni, Pangaea, cell m8 - BuzzJack's Queen of electronica serving up some absolute summer belters this month. Oh my at the tie last month being so big that it needs its own playlist!
