Live to Tell ● 40 years on
A sublime song. One of her very best ballads the production and vocals together is so haunting and powerful, truly magical.

RAYE - I Know You're Hurting.
Big smash please. How they dropped Nightingale Lane. before this I do not know! Maybe they were saving this for the album week though because it is a clear album standout!

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.
I've listened and I have thoughts Firstly, I have to totally commend and appreciate the sheer artistic vision behind the album. I love an album with a story, a concept, an idea that is followed through. The spoken elements, the big band-ness of it all, the live performance nature some of the songs have and the conversational side of it is a cute concept. Does it always work? No - I think some of the tracks really get hindered because they become quite trite in the use of the spoken-word and story telling nature. I did - dare I say it - cringe at some moments throughout. I get her pouring her thoughts out into the album but some of it just seemed so overdone and saccharine, I just couldn't enjoy. FIN. is probably one of the worst things I have heard - yes it is a celebration of who worked on the project, but this is still a project, an album at the end of the day and so to have to listen to all of that is torture. Include it on the credits of the physical album please! The song triggers me, omg I need to calm down It seems like a "really good on paper" idea~ but nah, horrendous. I also hated Beware.. The South London Lover Boy :') that awful opening made me cringe so hard. That being said, some of the moments of the album blew me away. Click Clack Symphony is out of this world phenomenal and Raye at her best (Escapism vibes!). I Know You're Hurting similarly hit me for 10 - properly floored me with the emotions. There were a few other moments that I really enjoyed. I feel like taking the best elements of the album and making a shorter EP of sorts? I do think however due to its bold, unapologetic nature and unconventional style it will pick up all the awards and recognition and good for it! While it doesn't always work for me, as I opened this post, I commend her for doing it and sticking with it and being true to her artistry~

Michael Aldag - The Carousel
I listened to this earlier and then.. immediately replayed it straight after. It really hit me quite hard. Not sure it will get much love because of how different it is, but Palaces is my favourite - such a bold, powerful, vulnerable song, I was transfixed listening to it. Really solid album - I am glad I gave it a chance!
-
Robyn - Sexistential
She did an interview about shorter albums being more her thing. She has packed so much into the shortness so I can't complain. I, naturally, love the album and it is yet another HIT for me. The singles pop off even more on the album (Talk To Me is becoming a career high for me). I don't think much of it reaches the dizzying heights of say Robyn or Body Talk but it's a fantastic album regardless and unfair to compare it to two masterpieces because very little can compete with those. So glad to have another solid album from her She rarely ever puts a foot wrong. The way she sings "ain't you the cutest little thing" in Blow My Mind tickles me in unholy places. Just me?

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA
Brilliantly fun and explosive album. I agree Dance... is a true standout song of the year so far. Also loved Gas Station, Beat Up Chanel$ and so many others!
-
Kanye West - BULLY
FATHER is straight off of Yeezus It starts as a blend between that album and MBDTF and transitions into some old-school Graduation stuff a few tracks in. The album is a bit of a ride through lots of different styles!

Happy 40th
Harpers Bazaar has published a feature on the legacy of Lady Gaga in celebration of her 40th birthday 🎂 “When she released her sixth studio album, Mayhem, in March of last year, it marked a thrilling return to form for the pop superstar—not only sonically, but thematically And in a way Gaga is the perfect celebrity. The last of the divas. She uses her platform and her voice, while giving us unforgettable performances, groundbreaking fashion, and a superstar to admire. She’s participated in the game, but has learned to not let herself be taken over by it Now, engaged and getting ready to tie the knot, Gaga is about to enter a new chapter of her life. This year, the one we endearingly call Mother Monster is turning 40 years old, and for nearly half of that time, she has been living dead-center in the spotlight. It’s fair to argue that Gaga is perhaps one of the last great musical divas, at least according to our traditional understanding of the word, but now the question remains: What will she do next?”
