The final is finally here and down to our last 2 contenders, and finishing in the runner up spot is the haunting 'Everytime', which means we all know who the winner is, but for now let's talk about this. A clear favourite from the start and has held on to the top 3 consistently throughout the rate with an overwhelming amount of high scores consisting of 6 11's, 24 10's & 10 8/9's. It was always a clear contender for the top, but never quite managed it, and it did slip to #3 for a short while due to the low rate of 4, but climbed back up to #2 towards the end and managing a whopping average of 9.6. So this is Buzzjack's favourite Britney ballad by a mile and probably everybody else's and it's not hard too see why, it's just brilliant with it's simple yet effective melody which appears to only feature piano and drums that brings out something so sad, touching and wonderful at the same time. This was totally unexpected from Britney at the time and nobody would have thought that we'd see a totally different side to her, I mean we have seen different sides to her, but not like this, something that's a little out of her vocal range, which is a good thing and you can see that Britney put all of her heart and sorrow into this song, which is allegedly written about her break up with Justin Timberlake and is a response to his song 'Cry Me River' and if you really listen to lyrics you can see why everybody would think that and in all honesty this is the much better song that will bring a tear to your eye. Released in May 2004 as the 3rd single from her 4th album 'In The Zone' and became another success for her by becoming her 5th UK #1, as well as topping the charts in Australia, Hungary & Ireland as well as top 5 peaks in Canada, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Denmark & Poland. In the USA it managed to reach #15 on the Top 100 becoming her 11th top 40 hit.

Oh wow! Definitely wasn't expecting 'Everytime' to beat 'Baby...'! Really thought it'd be a 'Baby...'/'Toxic' top 2 (really couldn't call the order!). 'Everytime' is such a hauntingly beautiful pop ballad. Made all the sweeter knowing just how much she was involved in making that song and making it a single!

 

'Baby...' is a pop masterpiece. There's no two ways about it. Even if you aren't a fan of it, you'll find it hard to deny it's a classic and a masterpiece of pop culture I imagine.

 

'Toxic' is a thoroughly deserving winner though and again, another classic pop song. :wub:

There we have it, at long last finally Buzzjack's #1 favourite Britney single is none other than 'Toxic', which to be honest I always had a feeling it would come out on top and despite a somewhat slow start with 'BOMT' being the early winner, this quickly overtook it, managing a lot more 11's than any other single, a whopping 10 of them in fact and even managed more 10's than any song with an even more impressive 23 amount and this was the only song here to not get a lower than a 7, which is pretty impressive considering 42 of you took part, and that also means that 33 of you rated this either a 10 or 11. I'd also just like to thank everybody for taking part in this rate and made this a big success, in fact this is my most successful rate yet.

Now where do I begin with this one, Well first off it was released in January 2004 as the 2nd single from her 4th album 'In The Zone' and surprisingly enough this wasn't even considered for a release at first. Originally the record label wanted '(I Got That) Boom, Boom' as the 2nd single, or even 'Outrageous' (which ended up as the 4th). Thankfully Britney put her foot down and chose this instead, and funnily enough even during the album's release this was overlooked by reviewers. But her choosing turned out to be an incredibly smart move as this just blew everyone away, taking everybody by surprise and therefore became an instant firm fave. Now this is Britney at her upmost peak of her career, not only taking a totally different direction to what she'd done before with exploring different genres of music that if went wrong she could have tanked, but she knew what she wanted from this, despite being stuck at first, up until the first song was recorded and then everything went smoothly. I honestly just love this song and find it a very worthy winner, with it's ambitious sound that still sounds fresh today as it did way back in 2004. Producers Bloodshy and Avant basically threw everything into this song such as pop, surf guitar, euro disco & even Bollywood strings and it all worked, while a with a lesser artist that could have been a total mess, Britney manages to make everything work to her advantage and turn it into something iconic and one of her not only greatest but decade defining all time hits. Upon release the song of course received rave reviews and became a smash hit by topping the charts in UK, Australia, Canada, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal & Sweden, as well as top 5 peaks in 12 other countries, then top 10 everywhere else, making this one the most successful singles of career and even managed to win Britney her first and only Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
