Hello, and welcome one and all to the Shimmering Zephyr Theater, on the shore of the sea in Séyetana's top tourist destination and second city, Asenati. The purpose of this little visit, you ask?

Why, none other than to re-run and rediscover another of the first ever Buzzjack Song Contests to grace this forum, the second one, in fact, originally held over 6 years ago in December 2007 by Mdiče and Kopečka (now Pendulous Republic Of Nork).

A short historical/context-giving section will now follow, if I have any facts wrong please someone who was actually around correct me, they're mainly what I can see from looking at the threads:

 

Following the success of the first run through of the Buzzjack Song Contest, plenty of new faces signed up to take part in the second one. Among these debutants were the very familiar PRoJ, then going by the name of Jester's Kingdom, now sporadic entrants Farahtyn, and our current GM Rooney on his only ever (solo) attempt at BJSC under the name Blackcurrantbillyoland (don't ask me, I have no idea).

 

With entries from P!nk, Shakira, Rihanna, Reloaded I winner Delta Goodrem, Geri Halliwell, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and plenty of other 'known' names (and only 1 male artist in the original final!), this was a contest where cheapness still did not really exist and now looks more like a who's who of veteran BJ faves. Instead, most entrants seem to have subscribed to the school of finding obscure 'unknown' songs by popular artists (or just horribly obvious singles if you're Hackyack). Also, being the first contest to take place around Christmas, some Christmas songs showed up to take the field. I guess we can all thank Martyn for teaching us that even Aly & AJ will have a Christmas song somewhere.

 

But in any case, do take that into account while voting, that while baby-steps were being taken towards finding inspired entries, this was still very much in the development stage at this point. Hopefully you'll all make at least some discoveries from it though.

 

II was really, looking back from an outsider's perspective, a very weird early installment, even more so than the others around its time, taking on a concept that was becoming popular but was not yet clearly defined. The winner having both one of the narrowest victories in the history of the contest and consistently being one of the least appreciated of our winners shows that there is plenty of room to change - so the results of this will probably be very interesting if we get a lot of votes (do it!).

 

In the original contest the number of new entrants meant holding a semi-final to knock out 10 unlucky songs before a final of 24. However this won't be reflected in the re-run and we will have tonight a final of all the original 34 entrants. Semis in Reloaded will come into place after VI when the semi era was fully formalized.

 

 

VOTING RULES

 

1) Anyone can vote in this and all Reloaded contests, even if you've just joined (As long as you have a BJSC country name for me to read out in the results anyway) or been away for years. If you were originally in this contest you can vote for any of the entries ASIDE from your own.

 

2) Vote using the standard ESC system of 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for your top 10 favourites from the final. All who read this will vote.

 

3) Voting will last until 17th February 23:59, please send all votes to my inbox. Results will be the following evening. Unless this is deemed too short by you, I'm working it so it's done before LXII semis go up but I can go longer if that's not enough time. As some of the songs will no doubt be familiar to all it should not take much effort to go through the unknowns and vote so I hope to see votes from a large number of people! :D No excuses, especially as there's no active normal BJSC running right now.

 

(Countries with a * after their name entered this contest under a different name and this has been updated for continuity. Ashton entered BJSC I and II as Fotherington Islands but Ashton, Federal Republic Of is used in the official resources, for example)

This is the original running order, with the 10 original DNQs added on to the end. We do lose the APTNESS of having the Norkian song close us out but there was no other real way to be fair.

There's at least a FEW inspired entries we can salvage from these early days. I don't think I'd have ever listened to I Get Around, Fidelity, or Sing To Me if it wasn't for this, and they're pretty fab.

Plus the comedy that All I Want For Christmas Is You actually got entered to an actual contest (worth the double 'actual') is at least worth a mention.

Yeah, you can PM them to me if you want Alex, just not in the thread. Lex, as long as he makes up a country name with his votes (or I could just do AlexRangia/Anmarypolis/Heidia) that would work, unless a bjsc mod wants to correct me, anyone is able to vote in these spinoffs.

As far as I'm aware you do need to have registered a country first to be able to vote (and of course it's not currently possible to register!)

 

So I don't see a problem with Alex revealing what he would vote for (not like his votes will be reflective of the actual outcome).
