It's that time again! 2016 is almost over so it's time for me to tell you guys all about the songs I've loved most. I've got 250 cracking tracks ready to reveal to you all over the next while, although currently they're un-ordered so I don't even know the order myself! I'll also be counting down my top albums, EPs and artists throughout the countdown. (note, mainly for myself for next year: this countdown covers up to week 258 in my weekly chart) How do I compile my EOY? Simply through personal opinion! I keep a points based YTD which I will also be revealing just for reference but I don't find it accurate enough to use as my official EOY, and it gives a disadvantage to newer songs, so I'd rather choose the order myself! A few hints: - The most songs by one artist is 7, although a few artists are just behind on 6. - Every top 10 hit from my weekly chart this past year features in this countdown, and the vast majority of top 20s are there too. - Some songs featured never made my weekly top 40! The countdowns will commence within the next couple of days. While you wait, last year's EOY chart is in post 2, and just down below in this post is a list of all my #1s since last year's cut-off point, will any of them go all the way? 125 05/12/2015 - The Vamps - Rest Your Love (1 week) 126 12/12/2015 - Grace - You Don't Own Me (feat. When Please Don't Go and Treat You Better are the possible alternatives, I'd be happy with a Frans victory.

EPs
1 Isac Elliot - A Little More - 2-1-2-2-2-3-5-7-11-12-12-15-X (12 weeks) 2 Greyson Chance - Somewhere Over My Head - 1-1-1-2-3-6-9-10-11-14-15-X (11 weeks) 3 Jai Waetford - Heart Miles - 5-2-4-7-10-… (5+ weeks) 4 Maty Noyes - Noyes Complaint - 4-6-9-9-11-… (5+ weeks) 5 Benjamin Lasnier - Chill With You - 2-5-12-X (3 weeks) OK let's get going! We're kicking things off with my top 5 EPs of the year first. It was a close battle between Isac and Greyson for the top spot but Isac just nabs it with his first EP release (following two albums). It's a really solid release, plenty of variety with Bieber-style bangers (Worth Something, Not for Nothing), urban-influenced pop (Wishful Thinking) and of course a couple of ballads (What About Me, Sleepless). Greyson deserves a big mention though - I went into my first listen of Somewhere Over My Head (months after its release because I forgot it existed) with low expectations, I wasn't hugely fussed on the singles initially but I decided to listen in the hope it could be even half as good as his incredible debut album Hold On 'Til the Night. I was most definitely surprised in the most positive way, the music is like a mix between Troye Sivan and Nick Jonas and is packed solid with growers. The other three EPs are all really solid too - Jai Waetford is a name I've been keeping an eye on for a while now, he even made my top 10 in 2013 with debut single Your Eyes, but now he finally feels like he's hit the right spot as an artist. His songs are much darker in sound than you may expect from a 16 year old Australian lad but they're all the better for it! Maty Noyes is a huge up and coming name, and with an EP as strong as this, she's surely destined for stardom. Benjamin Lasnier's release only just qualifies for this considering it has only three tracks but all three are different and shine in their own way - a huge shout out to Reckless Love, a song you'll see pop up later in the songs countdown! |

Albums
21 Rachel Platten - Wildfire - 6-6-6-7-10-11-14-15-X (8 weeks) 22 Lauren Aquilina - Isn't It Strange? - 2-6-11-X (3 weeks) 23 Lady Gaga - Joanne - 3-7-9-13-X (4 weeks) 24 Kygo - Cloud Nine - 6-6-8-9-11-13-X (6 weeks) 25 Rihanna - ANTI - 5-4-7-10-11-12-14-X (7 weeks) 26 Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION Side B - 3-6-8-13-X (4 weeks) 27 Alyssa Reid - Phoenix - 3-7-9-X (3 weeks) 28 Jake Bugg - On My One - 5-6-9-12-15-X (5 weeks) 29 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Familia - 3-7-14-X (3 weeks) 30 Mikey Bromley - This One's For You - 3-8-X (2 weeks) A massive dose of albums to get us started! A strong bunch but it gets even better when we reach the top 20, and the top 10 is one of the best album top 10s I've had so far. Right at the bottom we see former Only the Young member Mikey Bromley with his debut solo release, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Familia. Jake Bugg released his follow-up to 2013's Shangri La this year and it failed to match the #1 peak of its predecessor, but that doesn't stop On My One being a good listen regardless. Alyssa Reid's Phoenix is just about eligible, released just under a year ago now at the tail end of 2015! Sadly her weakest album to date but not a bad effort. Carly's Emotion Side B is good although not quite up to the standard of full albums Kiss and Emotion (side A). Rihanna delivered her best album in a long time with ANTI, and Gaga sadly did the opposite with Joanne but it's without a doubt her most cohesive effort to date. Also appearing are Kygo and Lauren Aquilina with their debut albums, and unlucky Rachel Platten's long-running #6 album, sadly never quite managed to crack my weekly top 5. *commentary will improve as we continue on through!* |

Shame that you find Joanne a step down from Gaga's previous material. Obviously there were so many untouchable classics from her peak, but I find her it so much better than Artpop. It's probably her most cohesive album in terms of sound and most defined in terms of lyric and message, which is everything Artpop failed to be and was its biggest weakness. The title track is heartbreaking, 'Come to Mama' is so warm and inviting, 'Hey Girl' is a great fusion of two artists you wouldn't usually associate with, despite how much sense it makes when you put them together, and 'Sinner's Prayer' has really hit me recently. Easily one of my faves of the year and one of my biggest surprises, as I was prepared not to like it based on initial reviews.
Not sure if I actually got round to listen to Jake Bugg's album despite loving his first two, oops! |

Thank you for the comments so far guys!

Not sure if I actually got round to listen to Jake Bugg's album despite loving his first two, oops! I'm not sure my commentary really did Joanne justice but unfortunately I've only given it one spin so far, it's on my list of albums to revisit but whilst it was most definitely a nice album and her most cohesive to date, nothing much really stood out to me, which is why ARTPOP has the edge - some duds of course but some really huge songs on that one for me! I'm sure Haus will be badgering me into a listen-through as soon as he reads this This era feels very low-key for Jake Bugg so far, he's had less Radio 1 support than usual I guess and the album felt like it came and went without much of a trace! It's not a bad album at all, just a bit more "same old same old" for the most part (and a couple of iffy tracks). |

16 Daya - Sit Still, Look Pretty - 1-2-5-8-12-15-… (6+ weeks) 17 Fleur East - Love, Sax and Flashbacks - 3-6-6-6-8-11-12-X (7 weeks) 18 Banks - The Altar - 2-7-13-X (3 weeks) 19 Christopher - Closer - 1-4-6-… (3+ weeks) 20 Beyoncé - Lemonade - 7-5-7-9-10-12-15-X (7 weeks) Opening up the top 20 is Beyoncé with her sixth studio album Lemonade. The album is a huge improvement on her self-titled fifth album in my opinion, despite several listens I never managed to get into that one. Whilst Lemonade doesn't touch BEYONCÉ's highpoint (Drunk In Love), it's a much better listen with highlights including 6 Inch, Daddy Lessons and Don't Hurt Yourself among others. Just above Bey is this year's lowest #1 album, courtesy of Danish popstar Christopher. His third album Closer managed to sneak #1 on a quiet week just three weeks back, and whilst it's a solid listen, I expect it wouldn't have made #1 most weeks of the year. Above Christopher is an album that had a much shorter chart run than everything in this top 20 (bar those still charting) but has provided me with a lot more enjoyment than the album below it. Banks' sophomore album The Altar felt more confident than debut release Goddess (which was still good but had more filler on it). Highlights include Fuck With Myself and Trainwreck to name just two. Fleur East is at #17 with her debut album Love, Sax and Flashbacks, which first charted in the first week eligible for this EOY a year ago. Whilst the album didn't quite live up to the highs of lead single Sax, it was still a fun pop album and I'm excited as to what else Fleur will release going forward! Finally, a bit of a jump now to our top 16, with a #1 album from Daya. Most known for her vocals on The Chainsmokers' Don't Let Me Down, Daya's debut album is full of quirky tracks and is a strong pop debut. Its title track Sit Still, Look Pretty is the main highlight but a shoutout to Thirsty, Hide Away, Back to Me and Love of My Life too! |

So, likewise, I had no clue YOU were a Banks fan Actually I'm not quite a proper fan, but Andy had me listen to The Altar and 'Trainwreck' stood out so so much. Clearly I overlooked her on your chart!
YES at 'Don't Hurt Yourself' getting a mention for Beyonce. *.* All three are great shouts but my favorite is 'Freedom' <3 |

I actually forgot Freedom!! Another highlight for certain, that's probably in my top 3 at least actually Cheers Jordan |
