..aren't actually "one hit" wonders.

I'm speaking about those who have had one massive hit, but managed to score another one or two "hits" despite nobody remembering the other songs and only remembering their biggest one/where they're considered one hit wonders?

Examples:

Ava Max currently. I'm a fan, but I doubt anyone will actually remember So Am I in 2 years and just remember Sweet But Psycho.

Sandi Thom had a HUGE hit with I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair), but What If I'm Right (which is a B A N G E R) managed to go top 30 but nobody ever remembers it and only remembers her number 1 smash.

Also lets all LOL now and get it out of our system at the non-serious comments of artists who have had several hits but have only done one good song etc.. lolololol roflmao

EDIT: Preferably top 40 singles (the general public never really cared beyond that laugh.gif)

Eiffel 65 are prime candidates for this sort of topic. 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)' still remembered and loved by most, but 'Move Your Body' maybe less so despite the fact it went top 3 here. They could so easily have been one hit wonders in the true sense though!

I bet there are literally hundreds of examples of this. But one that immediately springs to my mind is Chesney Hawkes - obviously everyone remembers him for #1 smash 'The One And Only' but he actually had a further five Top 75 singles (I actually prefer his second single 'I'm A Man Not A Boy' to 'The One And Only').

Also, agreed that 'What If I'm Right' is a confirmed BANGER.

I mean Radio 1 included Carly Rae Jepsen in a 'One Hit Wonders' show with "Call Me Maybe", completely forgetting her two other T10 hits ("Good Time" and "I Really Like You") wacko.gif

Did anyone else know that OMI followed up his #1 hit 'Cheerleader' with a song called 'Hula Hoop' which peaked at #75?

He also returned to the top 40 featuring on the single version of The Vamps' 'I Found A Girl'. Which the OCC chose to acknowledge in their eternal inconsistency despite never crediting Demi Lovato on 'Somebody To You'. x

For some reason my first thought is Crazy Frog. Seems like it should be an archetypal one hit wonder but the Crazy Frog hype lasted a whole year and a half with five top 20 singles (and even 3 charting albums although only the first made the top 40).

It wouldn't surprise me if there are people in the UK who didn't realise Dexys Midnight Runners had another #1 hit, or that Right Said Fred & a-ha had a #1 hit but not with those songs. The latter have SO many hits but one obviously eclipses the rest.

Defining one hit wonders is always a mess though because there's no concrete definition on what a hit is, and for that matter, if cultural osmosis of the time is more important than the ever-evolving present. Is Fort Minor the Mike Shinoda project known for "Where'd You Go", or "Remember The Name"? How long until The Killers are retroactively pigeon-holed as one hit wonders for the same reason as a-ha? It all makes it a kind of useless term because it's mostly propagated by people who don't know what they're talking about, or people trying to dismiss (often super prematurely) the credibility of an artist they don't like.

That's f***ing absurd, I mean 'I Really Like You' has since been a platinum top 3 hit!

Lukas Graham do only have one top 40 hit though.

It's too early to tell re: Tones And I but I'd be surprised if she can't get 'Never Seen The Rain' / another song into at least the top 40, if not scoring another legitimately big hit, after how monstrously huge 'Dance Monkey' was.

You actually have more faith in Tones getting another Top 40 hit than I do laugh.gif

How about Babylon Zoo: he followed up the huge #1 'Spaceman' with a further two Top 40 hits but I bet no one can remember them.

i’m sure there’s quite a lot of dance examples but one of the most baffling in retrospect is that Alice Deejay somehow managed five top 20 hits.

There's lots of dance acts that would fit this from the 90s. I'm thinking the likes of Urban Cookie Collective, Rednex, Haddaway, Corona, Ultra Nate, Real Mccoy, Corona etc

Going back to 1982. Nicole won Eurovision for Germany with the lovely A Little Peace. Reached No.1 here but she had another hit. At No.75! AFAIK no-one else has ever had a No.1 and a No.75 and nothing else ever.
