Welcome to the Queen 2023 singles rate, marking the 50th anniversary of the band's eponymous debut album release!
This is inspired by this BBC poll: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3...mate-queen-song The poll asks you to vote for your favourite 3 songs, with the results being revealed from 31 March and over the Easter weekend. Of course we can do a much better and geekier poll than that so instead I'm going to ask you to rank your top 50 of the 56 Top 75 hits on which they are credited. I'm aware there was a singles rate done a couple of years ago which wasn't finished, but this has a slightly different scope. The below track-list is copied from the BBC poll, though I have corrected the year for the Miami Project version of "Another One Bites The Dust" to 2006 instead of 2002. It will be interesting to compare the results of this with the BBC's version. There are 56 singles, including a double A side which is being counted as 1. Please vote as follows: +50 (your favourite) +49 (your second favourite) ... +1 (your 50th favourite) Therefore you will be leaving out only your 6 least favourite. A couple of notes: The Queen vs The Miami Project version of “Another One Bites The Dust” is the version produced by Cedric Gervais, and the Small Soldiers is the version featuring Wyclef Jean. The BBC poll has “We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You” combined as one voting option, but as PCF has pointed out the UK single was the former on its own so I’ve changed that. The singles: Another One Bites The Dust [1980] Another One Bites The Dust (Queen vs The Miami Project) [2006] Another One Bites The Dust (Small Soldiers film version) [1998] Back Chat [1982] Bicycle Race [1978] Body Language [1982] Bohemian Rhapsody [1975] Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen & The Muppets) [2009] Breakthru [1989] C-Lebrity [2008] Crazy Little Thing Called Love [1979] Don't Stop Me Now [1979] Fat Bottomed Girls [1978] Flash [1980] Flash (Queen & Vanguard) [2003] Friends Will Be Friends [1986] Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy [1977] Hammer To Fall [1984] Headlong [1991] Heaven For Everyone [1995] I'm Going Slightly Mad [1991] Innuendo [1991] The Invisible Man [1989] It's A Hard Life [1984] I Want It All [1989] I Want To Break Free [1984] Killer Queen [1974] A Kind Of Magic [1986] Las Palabras De Amor [1982] Let Me Live [1996] Love Of My Life [1979] The Miracle [1989] No-One But You (Only the Good Die Young) [1998] Now I'm Here [1975] One Vision [1985] Play The Game [1980] Radio Ga Ga [1984] Save Me [1980] Scandal [1989] Seven Seas Of Rhye [1974] The Show Must Go On [1991] Somebody To Love [1976] Somebody To Love (Five Live EP) [1992] Spread Your Wings [1978] Thank God It's Christmas [1984] These Are The Days Of Our Lives [1991] Tie Your Mother Down [1977] Too Much Love Will Kill You [1996] Under Pressure (with David Bowie) [1981] Under Pressure - Rah Mix [1999] We Are The Champions [1977] We Will Rock You (Five & Queen) [2000] Who Wants To Live Forever [1986] A Winter's Tale [1995] You Don’t Fool Me [1996] You're My Best Friend [1976] I would be happy to arrange a listen-through if there's enough interest. Let me know in the comments if you would be up for that. I have set up a Spotify playlist: Only 1 song is missing, which is of course the most important of all: I am setting the deadline to be Sunday 26 March at 23:59, but I may extend a bit depending on how it's going. I've no idea how I'm going to vote myself so looking forward to doing some listening and scoring! This post has been edited by JulianT: 24th April 2023, 04:43 PM |

Look forward to taking part in this!
I could probably rate 30-40 songs quite readily - I'll listen through the playlist for the others, but if only leaving 6 unranked, looks like I'll have to include at least some of those I don't really consider as Queen songs, mostly since John Deacon bowed out of the group at the end of the 90s. |

I guess I could have made it an easier voting system like 30-1, but I quite like the fact that everyone will probably need to do a bit of listening this way haha!

Are you really proposing to do all four hours in one listen-through?

Is it too early to begin the campaign for a Muppets victory here?

I guess I could probably copy most of my scores from the previous rate although who knows if I still stand by them Wouldn't say no to some kind of listenthrough(s) at some point ~
(and yes, Muppets to win obvz) |

If you exclude the multiversions, there is just 50 songs, so everybody gets a vote at least
I don't mind Queen but not sure If I can sit through a 4 hour playlist of them |

The thought of a listen through of this fills me with utter dread. I can’t stomach more than about 3 songs by them before I start to get fed up

just checking we post our voting on here? Everything post 1997 is easy - just look at chart positions in my personal charts, then go back to earlier faves.
Unusual decision to list the actual double A side Bicycle Race and Fat Bottomed Girls (one naff one OK) as individual while listing We Are The Champions (A side) and We Will Rock You (B side in the UK) as a double A when both are amongst their top records and deserve to shine on their own - though I understand that avoids omitting We Will Rock You if B sides are ignored. But it was a single elsewhere, so just rate them apart? |

I’ve copied the list from the BBC poll exactly as that’s the inspiration and means we can compare results. I do think it’s odd to have We Are The Champions and We Will Rock You combined, especially if the latter was the B side in the UK. I’ll change that then - unfortunately that means the latter will come off the list entirely under the rules as it isn’t a hit. So we’ll just be left with the 5ive version! |

Okey doke, thanks To commemorate the loss of We Will Rock You I've added it to my nephews 18th birthday This Is Your Life audio backdrop to a 50-minute photo montage. I had just over 2 minutes left that needed a song to end on and he likes Queen |
