Posted September 21, 200916 yr Madonna is looking to equal Elvis Presley’s total of 11 UK album number ones this weekend with her new retrospective Celebration opening up a narrow lead at retail. The double set is presently a few thousand sales ahead of its nearest rival, fellow Warner Bros release The Resistance by Muse, which debuted at one last Sunday. If Celebration remains in front it will place Madonna in joint second place with Presley behind The Beatles with the most UK chart-topping albums. Her tally of 10 album number ones dates back to 1984’s Like A Virgin and also takes in the Evita soundtrack, which features both her and other artists. Madonna’s album leads another bumper week of new releases with four other newly-issued albums among the 10 biggest sellers of the week so far. These include Dizzee Rascal’s new Dirtee Skank-issued album Tongue N’ Cheek, which features his three number one singles, Casablanca/Island act Mika’s second album The Boy Who Knew Too Much and Pearl Jam’s Island debut Backspacer. Also looking to debut in the Top 10 are Cliff Richard & the Shadows with the EMI-issued Reunited, which has been released to commemorate their farewell tour together. Other new arrivals to the chart this Sunday will include a new Union Square-issued Madness best of, Mute artist Richard Hawley’s new album Truelove’s Gutter and new albums from Interscope/Polydor’s Brand New, XL’s Basement Jaxx, Rough Trade’s Monsters Of Folk and UMTV’s Michael Bolton. A re-issue of Gary Numan’s Beggars Banquet album The Pleasure Principle is also chart-bound. On singles Island’s Taio Cruz, who debuted at one last Sunday with Break Your Heart, is being strong pushed by the Roc Nation/Atlantic-issued Empire State Of Mind by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys. Jay-Z, who performed the track on Jonathan Ross’s BBC1 chat show last Friday, could finish up with two singles in the top five as his Rihanna and Kanye West chart-topping collaboration Run This Town is one of the week’s other big sellers. Alongside the Jay-Z track, Alicia Keys may well be back in the Top 40 on Sunday with her 2004 hit If I Ain’t Got You after it was performed on X Factor last Saturday by contestant Nicole Lawrence. It could be joined in the chart by new entries from Hard2Baet/MoS’s Basshunter, Geffen’s Jade Ewen and Data/MoS’s Example. September 22, 200916 yr Don`t think Cliff & The Shadows will land inside the top ten or that Peter Andre will drop as much as people think - probaby only drop to around No 6 or 7 (outselling Madonna at HMV and Asda).

September 22, 200916 yr Hope Madonna's album is No.1. Heard Mika's is quite patchy with only 3 or 4 very good tracks.

Maybe just outside the Top 10 as there are 3/4 new entries to land in the Top 6. But not that much, yes.
September 22, 200916 yr I really don't want Dizzee at number 1. If he beats one of the greatest artists of the last 25 years to number 1, this country's music scene is doomed to chavviness forever :puke2:

September 22, 200916 yr I doubt Dizzee can hit the top spot... Dont be so shocked, i know ALOT of people have been waiting on it and it does follow on from three big selling number one singles..
September 22, 200916 yr Come on Jade! Would love Top 15 but can see it ending up at something like #53

My bit of theory is that if an act can sell a lot from the singles, I don't think the act will sell that much from the albums. But since he's really popular atm (and this is a new release), I will never know. Edited September 22, 200916 yr by FM11
