If Joe is on 149500 tomorrow then he has sold as fast as Alexandra did.

theres no way if he 'only' did 77,000 on the 1st frontloaded day, he will do 72,500 on the 2nd day.

WOW, in one day. so shes about 30k higher than joe on day one. so he looks set to sell maybe 700k in the singles life?
Hopefully Joe's download sales will wane quickly now...
It wasn't an entire days sales, the song was available for download everywhere apart from iTunes straight after the result was announced and you could pre-order it from many download sites.

Who cares if it is chart manipulation? It is playing Simon Cowell at his own game, the day that man was born was the day the music industry was tainted.

That's still not a full 24 hours like last year.

It doesn't play Simon Cowell at his own game, because he won't actually care - lol. Joe will be #1 with big sales, that will be what speaks the loudest to Simon come Sunday. Rage Against The Machine going in at #2 will show nothing other than an internet campaign got a song charting at #2 - impressive of course, but it won't change anything re: The X Factor existing, a winners single at Christmas.

It was a theoretical answer to someone who asked how it was doing in relation to Alexandra. I stated what it'd need to sell in order to equal Alexandra - not that he actually would do so. :)

so we are thinking under 120k by tomorrow. how would that pan out to sunday? sales of under 350k?

Let's do some manipulations. They aren't clearly correct (because Alex had an extra day) but still might show something.

Alexandra was on 105k after the first day sales and 576k after the whole week. So, we will have a 5.49 coefficient.

Let's move on to Joe. He is now on 77k. 77*5.49=422.73. So, I'll put him on 400-450k for this week.

Well, what about those 500k people who were willing to buy RATM single....

Willing, and buying - 2different things. 8 million Radio 1 listeners didn't even get Billie top 10.

and if you look at it this way. 20 million people watched joe win. 750k have joined that group. so IMO RATM are doing amazing. 10 percent of the people wont buy joes single but 10percent of that group have alreayd bought it.

Agree with everything in the calculation except the last part - Joe's multiplier is very unlikely to be as high as x5.49 as he has 5 days after 1st day sales, compared to Alexandra's 6.

The easy way would therefore be to pro-rata that multiplier of x5.49 by 5/6ths. but it won't be as simple as that as the shorter period will probably condense sales slightly (and the physical component of the sales has the same time period as Alexandra's - 4 days). Therefore assuming a half-way house on that, the x5.49 could be pro-rated by 5.5/6, therefore giving Joe a multiplier of x5.03. That would give his sales for the week as:- 388k.

EDIT: x5.49x5/6x77k = 350k, therefore I think the range he'll fall in is 350-400k).

EDIT EDIT: The "race" for #1 being so keenly contested could actually put him higher than this figure. Too many unknowns ...

Not all 100% of the watching audience were Joe supporters though - all 100% of the RATM "audience" are.

So its not that clear cut.

20m viewers is based on numbers of people in households though, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. It's not like every member of a family watching will each download or buy their own copy of Joe.
How can the Christmas songs be going down when it's not even Christmas yet?

how many votes were cast ont he night? do we know?

EDIT: i read 10 million votes for the final. if this is true, say they were all on the saturday for arguments sake. stacey and olly got a combined percentage of about 48percent, which leaves joe with 52percent. so thats still over 5 million. it will be more than that because alot of them votes woulda have been cast on the sunday as well.

All I care about in relation to Joe is that he didn't sell as much as Alexandra on the first day and he never even with 5 million extra viewers.

If he didn't care then why would he comment on it? Anyway, this proves that these internet campaigns can work and if it continues again next year then sales may prove to be more popular.

I think the people that run the campaign should set up interest in August when X Factor starts and get people to vote on what song it will be and kind of have a knock out each week like X Factor does and maybe the interest will generate more sales.

How would they be able to tell how many people are in a house.

There could be 50 people at a party.

How can the Christmas songs be going down when it's not even Christmas yet?

Same as occurred last year. Dunno why - loads of new entries, or most Xmas parties at start of December?
