People are so sad, bitter and pathetic tbh.

Its christmas who gives a flying S*** who's number1 GET OVER IT!

Exactly, at the end of the day, it's just one "commercial" song being at the top of a "commercial" chart (ie the compilation of sales on a certain period)...... I don't get what's so bad about it. It's not like it was getting the prize for best song of the millenium. I don't understand why all those "alternative" people do care about it...

The older you are, the more knowledgeable you are... The older you are, the better taste of music etc... Children these days listen to JLS, Miley and Joe. Adults tend to have a better taste in music.

LMFAO. And how come you know my musical taste?! By my age? And how actually is this connected with my previous post?

Did joe have one less day sales than rage machines?
Remember 2001? Robbie and Nicole were christmas no.1. No TV show, no Facebook campaign, just a song released around Christmas. And if you look at the Christmas top 10 for that year each song (with the exception of Gordon Haskell) wasn't overly hyped and in a 'race' for no.1.

No it doesnt. I think your wrong every person at my school likes different things at the minute its Lady Gagag , Iyzc (Replay) and BEP all who are doing well in the charts. Fine older people and younger people have differnt taste but so what. Everyone has differnt tastes.Your entiltled to your own taste. Obviousley u have no life and has to start arguments which leads to threads being unreadable. I can see why the mods get angry.

Yay, Rage are #1 for today at least! That'll do me really, it's not as if Joe's version of TC is actually ear burningly awful or anything, I quite like it really.

I'm sorry but that statement is just downright ignorant. Everyone has different tastes in music, varying through all ages. My dad for instance loves all the "oldie" music, Eric Clapton etc... but also loves Leona Lewis, Beyoncé, Alexandra Burke etc.. I'm also a fan of the modern stuff, as well as the older stuff, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, among others, and I'm 17.

Everyone should be allowed to have their own tastes, and enjoy the music they want to, without people putting them down for it. And I think this whole chart battle is kind of pointless to be honest, there haven't been any really good songs that could've been #1 over the Christmas in many years. I don't understand why everyone gets so jumped up about it. Does it really matter?

its good to see someone taking on the big x-factor machine. its a shame that they are both on the same label (more credibility would have been if it was a rival label), however this is a symbolic campaign taking on simon's dominance over the charts with the continuous peddling of blandness with those lazy cover versions. sony benefits no matter what BUT to have an xfactor single not get #1 would damage the show's power and arrogance that simon owns xmas #1s come what may.

can anyone actually deny simon's automatic lock on xmas #1 with his power, overhyping and 20 million viewers?? its something interesting to see but incredibly hard to pull off. david Vs goliath. why shouldn't someone take him on? its harmless competition but those that signed with the campaign need to actually commit otherwise there is no chance when the physicals kick in.

As you say very well, Simon gets his influence on the charts from the dreamy ratings he gets with his show. So it's quite laughable that his hardest opponents on this forum are actually watching the X Factor every single week... Would the show get $h!tty ratings, it would get axed and it wouldn't get #1 for Christmas.

lol at wczorajdzonson.

I remember the same argument being levelled at me by 'older' folk in 1970, when I was 18, because I liked Led Zeppelin etc etc . 'its tuneless rubbish, you only like it because you're brainwashed, youll grow out of it, why dont you listen to some proper music like Frank sinatra''.

That attitude stank then and it stinks now.

Mrlovett, you speak the truth. good post.

To be honest, the whole chart is a mess from about mid october to the new year because of xfactor.

I think one day, it wont have such power over the charts, in 5 years time say.

hopefully George Michael will stay top 10!!!

wish the Pet Shop Boys were higher...

Pavel - you're a 20 year old lad - what do you know about music? I'm sure your music journey started after 2000s.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and tastes. What's the sense to slag off someone because of the age?

Why exactly are people in this thread asking if RATM is going to be DQ by the OCC, of course it is bloody not.

Lol at the poster saying people at their school listen to Lady Gaga, Iyaz and BEP and are therefore diverse. They are the same genre. POP.

I tend to agree with the poster who stated age plays a factor in the significance of this chart battle but not musical tastes anyone can listen to anything at any age. However, you can't state you have a wide range of musical knowledge if you state Leona and Alexandra as your 'RnB' musical tastes.

And for the younger people in here by younger I mean 18 and below you really can't comment as to why people get so mad about the Christmas number one being stolen every year by an X Factor act as you would have been 13 when the first one topped the charts. The Christmas number one used to be a HUGE thing there was so much betting and pretty much everyone used to tune into radio 1 to listen to who it was going to be. Pre X Factor I can remember every Christmas number one and the epic chart battles. The last one was Mad World V. The Darkness, both of these songs were not to my liking but it was a great chart battle. Then there was of course the year Mr Blobby beat Take That, I remember everyone couldn't believe that.

Anyway, there is only a small number of people in this country that give a $h!t about the charts and I think they have the right to be mad that Simon Cowell has ruined the Christmas fun. Also I think it is pretty evident that the outrage wouldn't be half as much if they put effort and released something decent instead of terrible covers year after year.

Trust me, age has no correllation with good music taste. My granny is evidence of that.

exactly. I can remember my parents loved Beatles when they were young, and the older people were total ignorant, teenage, rebellious music, young people have no taste etc etc.

Suddenly some 30-40 years later The Beatles are classics and those people who like Beatles have taste. And those people are the same as at that time, The Beatles were a young band and had no taste. How interesting that people's taste hasn't changed yet the older they were the better taste they have? :)

And trying to stop X-Factors monopoly on the Xmas #1 with a song that is in no way Chrismassy defeats the object of trying to save the Xmas #1. Hopefully next year people will be smart and choose a Christmas song although i'd prefer it if X-Factor did a cover of an xmas song at least.

Well said... bless you....

x-factor works as a tv show. even if it got 10 million viewers it won't get axed. it makes so much money for itv and cowell. many people may watch and enjoy it as a tv show but won't buy a below average cover version. some will, some cause they like joe and his "journey" so its not about the song for them. another reason why x-factor's winning song is never about good music.

you're right... and my dad too he's 68, and lebanese, and listens to Lady Gaga, Rihanna & Robbie Williams...

so age ain't nuthin' but a number....
