December 19, 200916 yr Is that why it only reached #25 when it was originally released? So do you think Joe will still have his song played in clubs in 17 years time? Will YOU listen to it in a year? Do you think his album sales (which matter more) will get anywhere NEAR Rage's? Will Joe ever play to 60,000+ strong crowds? Er.. don't think so!

I don't like either song and don't listen to them now let alone in a years' time. And I doubt KITN would be being played in clubs at the moment if it wasn't for the campaign...and to be honest The Climb is not really a clubby song. Saying that I still hear A Moment like this, Sound of the Underground and Hallelujah played in clubs. Joe's album sales won't be anywhere near RATM because we are in an era of low album sales, but to be honest it will all depend on what material he is given for his first album. I agree that he won't have much longevity if he's given more ballads.

No I meant it has been played in clubs for the past 17 years and when I was at University a few years ago it was one of the defining songs of my first year! They still play in the rock clubs NOW regardless of the campaign and did you not see them headline Reading and Leeds last year? Anyway judging by the songs you hear you probably don't go to the same clubs as me :P
December 19, 200916 yr Will Joe ever play to 60,000+ strong crowds? um... considering the 6,000,000+ votes for him on X Factor... that's possible... and we are not here to argue that... please stick to the topic... congratz to Joe...securing Irish one... for the gap of 11K...that's probably too soon to say that Joe will win...tho it looks good... what is his sale around today? I'm more concerned about this... Edited December 19, 200916 yr by MIKAPHILIA

Will we find out the sales for RATM and Joe tomorrow in the day before #1 is announced on Radio 1?
December 19, 200916 yr I find it hilarious that people are conforming and buying a song thats all about not conforming. Oh the hilarity. I've seen many posts say that this Killing in the name song is a rock anthem? If thats the case, why have i (and at least 95% of my workplace come to that) never heard it/of it? I prefer Joe of the two, but even that is a weak song. Edited December 19, 200916 yr by Jamesy

December 19, 200916 yr Several points from this thread: RATM song was played in many student clubs when I was at Uni, I just never knew what the song was or who it was by butupon hearing it due to this campaign I recognised it instantly. Joe will never be playing to crowds if 60,000 people on his own tour so please do not delude yourself. It has taken someone like Pink ten years to be able to play stadiums. Now I can't tell the future but I am pretty sure that Joe is not going to be selling records in ten years time let alone filling stadiums. Finally, Joe has really flopped going by X factor standards. Alex, Leona, Shayne have all topped his first week sales and had 5 million less viewers. Around 8.3% of people who voted for Joe have bought the single this week, that is a p*** poor figure. Also the RATM campaign has given this x factor winner more exposure than ever and he is still going to struggle to sell 500,000 this week. It shows he is less talented and people have already lost interest.

December 19, 200916 yr At first I didn't mind or care who was Xmas #1, and I still don't really care, but I want Rage to be #1 now. Whilst I can believe a lot of people haven't heard it, it's a bit like Journey with Don't Stop Belivin'. It's a classic track that has a cult following and in some corners of the world (don't take this phrase literally, it's not meant that way) it's a very popular track, where as a lot of people still don't know about its popularity and stuff. KITN I suspect benefited from GTA: San Andreas, and that's a reason why I think a lot of younger people know the track due to the games popularity. Anyone it's all irrelevant now as i'm sure anyone who follows music and had never heard KITN before hand will now know how it sounds.

It shows he is less talented and people have already lost interest. sure...cuz the exposure gets everyone chooses his or her side...and certainly more and more agree with the Simon Cowell stealing Christmas no. 1 thing (they don't realize it before)...so what are they gonna do this year? unlike last year, they blindly went to buy the winner's single. Instead, they are either buying RATM to support the campaign or not gonna buy the winner single... it leads to the low sale of the winner single...the logic is like that...so you can't really blame Joe... I bet even if Leona was the winner this year, she would have sold more or less than Joe...
December 19, 200916 yr I'd never heard of RATM before this...so I don't think it is a rock anthem. Don't Stop Believing is a 10x better song and it is much more popular! I think The Climb is a great song.
December 19, 200916 yr I just think it's a horrible thing to do to an 18yr old. He's the one who'll be hurt, not Simon Cowell. It wouldn't bother me if another song became really popular and beat his to #1 but this is totally artificial and the only reason it is being done is to spite Joe. He wasn't one I'd have preferred to win but to buy a record simply to displace someone seems very wrong.

December 19, 200916 yr But probably wouldn't have the hate and a whole internet campaign raged against him.
December 19, 200916 yr This is where people have lost their minds how Is it a horrible thing to do to an eighteen year old he does not have the right for the number one he should be bloody glad he has got a record deal at all. I also don't understand how people in this thread could not have heard of RATM, I'm not familiar with their music but I am not that one dimensional in my music knowledge that I am not aware acts that are popular in various genres.

But seeing as RATM & the organisers of the Facebook campaign have come out to say this is not about having a go at Joe, it is about having a go at the corporate parasite and musical cancer that is Simon Cowell and The X-Factor. Yet this week Simon Cowell; Cheryl Cole & now today in The Sun Joe have personally attacked the band, the campaign, their fans and their music. I now think he has shown a complete and utter lack of class. Especially when you compare him to the first Pop Idol winner Will Young who was apologetic about stopping Shakira's Whenever Wherever; or indeed Darius when he beat Coldplay to the top spot.
December 19, 200916 yr This is where people have lost their minds how Is it a horrible thing to do to an eighteen year old he does not have the right for the number one he should be bloody glad he has got a record deal at all. Can you just explain to me how he doesn't have the right to be number one please? Has he not been working his ass off, performing each week to millions, for months solid? Has he not got a song out that hundreds of thousands of people like? Don't be spiteful. You may not like the song, or Joe, but you have no right to sit there and say he has no right to be #1 or have a record contract, because at least he's got up and done something with his life, and is trying to achieve his dream. He has put out a song that many people like, if you don't like it, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but there's no need for bashing like that.
