December 19, 200916 yr I agree that singles being stocked in supermarkets would be a positive thing especially around Christmas. I am not sure if there is the market for it anymore during the year as dissapointing as that is. To make the Christmas race more open supermarkets really need to stock singles of people other than the X Factor. Also Simon has announced that he expects to be on tv until he is Bruce Forsyths age, that is a really miserable thought. and bruce is like 124 and still going
December 19, 200916 yr Would it make any difference to people's opinions if x factor was on a diferent time of year, is it just that it is the christmas number one that people hate it more?? I think its a large part of it ... yes! Because you wouldn't get impulse buys at any other time of the year. People buying 'misguided' presents for other people and as the X-Factor song isn't for charity (is it?) ... it wouldn't have any reason to be at point of sale in supermarkets ... it'd have to take its chances like any other physical. Besides ... it's Christmas .... people get drunk around this time of year and buy any old sh/te! Norma
December 19, 200916 yr I think that the disgrace is for people to buy a record they wouldn't normally buy JUST to prevent another reaching #1. To me, that makes a complete mockery of the charts. As I said before, it wouldn't bother me at all whatever got top except in these circumstances. To campaign as a negative against one track seems to be like bullying. If all had downloaded a track they like because they like it, then that would be absolutely fine by me. This is worse than Cowell and makes him look better than the challengers.

But it is more a mass revolt against the blandfest from Cowell that has swept all aside from the top of the xmas charts since 2005. I think it is brilliant that Joe might not be #1 when it is assumed that part of the x factor winning package is the xmas #1. Cowell may control alot of things but I hope this is a wake up call for him! As for your first point megham, I bet there are many instances of people buying songs that they don't love to help certain bands and artists. This is more about principle than adoration of RATM really.
December 19, 200916 yr Does Cowell really look better than the competitors though considering he has slagged them off all week from his Barbados home. And I wish people would stop moaning that their is competition for X Factor if you like the charts why wouldn't you be excited by this race no matter what the circumstances.

I disagree ... everyone knows this isn't an attack on Joe McElderry (although after his petty little dig at Rage today ... and his belief that songs should only be released if they appeal to grandmothers - a personal attack could be justified). Yes ... this is a campaign to get one song ahead of another for the sake of it (a good song mind - but you're right ... for the sake of beating Cowell). But ... Cowell started his own campaign 12 weeks ago ... a very profitable campaign with millions of followers each show. So for me ... all's fair in love and charts. And by the way ... I listened to the Rage song a few times before I decided it was good enough to buy. The people who bought the X-Factor single decided to buy it before they even heard who sang the freakin' thing! Norma There were plenty of grandmothers who thought The Beatles were awful. Perhaps Joe thinks they shouldn't have had any hit singles.
December 19, 200916 yr But they don't have the chance! It's the time of year that Cowell chooses to have his number 1! He is an excellent marketeer ... a businessman with a bad haircut and bad trousers! And I hate to bring up this point of supermarkets selling the single but it is important ... at this time of year. I know loads of people who'd willingly slip in a Robbie cd, or a GaGa cd, or a Saturday's cd at the checkout ... an impulse buy for a stocking filler ... but they can't ... the only thing there is Simon!!!!! Its like a Donkey entering the Grand National ... and winning ... because someone has shot the other 39 horses!Norma  You sum up the situation perfectly.

The people who bought the X-Factor single decided to buy it before they even heard who sang the freakin' thing! You could say the same about the people who jumped on the RATM bandwagon and decided it was the song they were going to buy, even though they hadn't heard it. It was more the name of the band and the nature of the campaign rather than what the song sounded like.

It was more the name of the band and the nature of the campaign rather than what the song sounded like. Its (a sort of) chicken and egg scenario though isn't it? I mean ... if Cowell had decided to choose the Mr Blobby song for the X-F winner to sing ... it would get to number one ... because people are buying the song to support the show ... not the winner or the song. And ... hand on heart ... if I didn't like the RATM song ... I wouldn't have downloaded it (being a Capricorn ... I've very careful with my money). I've listened to the X-F song about half a dozen times now ... and I just cannot understand how some people can consider it a 'great' song. Fair enough ... buy it ... but don't kid yourself its a great song. Believe me ... in 10 years time ... the people who bought The Climb will be like St Peter when he denied Jesus! They will be so embarrassed to admit it. And I'm sorry ... I don't mean to demean Jesus here but it was the nearest thing I could think of. Norma Edited December 19, 200916 yr by Norma_Snockers
December 19, 200916 yr Sorry for off-topic, but Norma, I really ADORE your posts! This whole campaign wasn't really honest, from both sides. But the honesty of it doesn't matter now for me. Just stop and ... and think: we actually DON'T know who will be #1 on Christmas chart! And that is amazing, isn't it? The RATM campaign has given us this present - the chart excitment and it is very great even if Joe gets it in the end.
December 19, 200916 yr Does anyone have a screen cap of the latest popularity bars on itunes by any chance .... :D Edited December 19, 200916 yr by chinatoy
December 19, 200916 yr Does anyone have a screen cap of the latest popularity bars on itunes by any chance .... :D I posted them about an hour ago. They haven't updated since I don't think. Although feed now shows RATM at #1, #11 and #75

December 20, 200916 yr So that's it then... the lines are closed, the votes have been counted etc. And I can reveal that the winner is due to be revealed between 6.30 and 7.00 on Sunday evening.
December 20, 200916 yr It will be really exciting tomorrow waiting for the top 2, but i do think Joe will do it.
December 20, 200916 yr And I can reveal that the winner is due to be revealed between 6.30 and 7.00 on Sunday evening. Please note that any downloads made now will not count but will still be charged* *unless you're doing the Nokia thing
December 20, 200916 yr I think Joe has it in the bag, the momentum was definitely in his favour and with 'Super Saturday' and all, unless the RATM group seriously up their download rate there would have been no way they could catch up.
