As people all over the internet seem to be doing, you're completely missing the point.

The people buying RATM's "Killing In The Name Of" aren't buying it to spite Simon Cowell's gold stockpile or take anything away from what Joe whatsisname has accomplished (or not accomplished, I didn't watch the show)

The vast majority of people who are buying the Rage track are doing so to show the major record labels that they are fed up of this commercialised cr@p (i.e pre-fab, production line "talent" show winners) who (on the whole) don't write (or choose) their own songs.

Having thought about it, we probably overlap a bit with the people who voted Lordi to win the Eurovision ;)

clearly yesterday was joe's day for physicals. yesterday and saturday coming. unfortunately, out-selling KITN by only 28K is unlikely to make much of an impact. die-hard joe fans will have been queuing yesterday. purchases over the next few days will be lower for sure - likely to be more casual purchases, just people picking it up as they pass. saturday will be the big day. people are free to go and buy from HMV... but the rage group has in excess of 830,000 members. given about 200,000-300,000 will not stick up to their promise and many have downloaded it multiple times, i reckon about 150,000 members will have purchased the track by now. leaving around 300,000-400,000 to buy the track (as the multiple buyers WILL purchase it again on saturday - they are the die-hard rage fans!!), remembering, guys, that there is a RATM surge planned for saturday... a huge one. :D

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what do all these numbers and pluses mean?

It isn't a stupid question! I thought they were all talking in code to try and exclude me at first! They can't say actual numbers in the midweeks so ... as the other guy said ... you have to work it out.

I just dread the day when Mikey decides to give the answers in quadratic equations!

Rihannas album is not doing well atall :(

it will probably do 40k again this week, you cant call 150,000 copies in 4 weeks bad, it is a solid start and it is a base of which hopefully she can continue from. if by this time next year she is at only 300,000 copies then i'll worry.

The next level will be riddles, like don't put 10 eggs in the basket ;) :D

Oh, even though Joe is likely to overtake RATM on the official chart, he will undoubtably be runner-up to them on the Big Top 40 (which doesn't count ANY physical sales).. wonder what the kids listening to that show will say. Hopefully they will switch to the BBC in protest! :D
Just a little snippet of info some might find interesting - We sold 107 copies of Joe's single at work yesterday, We had a new delivery today of 150 copies [+11 left from yesterday] and when i left tonight we only had 6 in stock  Think sales of the CD single will get bigger as the week goes on - Perfect stocking filler  Also the price of the CD has dropped to £2.99.

You work in a small music shop? Still sounds good though :)

Considering the average single has sold around 10 copies this year anything above 50 sales is amazing  TBH i think the bulk of sales are coming from HMV.com and Tesco.

Whoever wins, I'm just glad the other overrated Geordie will not have the highest first week sales of the year.
oooh, just found out where Madonna - Revolver is... in today's chart, if anyone cares its currently top 120. Whoop Pi Doo

Just seen this :o  Deserves MUCH higher!

True...on a normal week. This is not a normal week.

@Tmorello Fearing the will of the people, XFactor pressures stores to lower price of song to boost sales. Rage fans buy Killing multiples in response
