Posted December 21, 200916 yr Joe McElderry looks set to have a number one single after all, with The Climb (Syco) this week outselling Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In the Name (Epic) by almost two to one. The Climb, the debut single from X Factor winner McElderry, was famously beaten to the number one spot last Sunday by Rage Against The Machine’s Nineties hit, after an internet campaign to break the X Factor’s stranglehold on the Christmas number one spot. However, it looks like McElderry will get his revenge, with The Climb selling almost 80,000 copies so far this week to Killing In The Name’s 40,000. With the race for the Christmas number one dead and buried, The Climb now looks set to top the charts this coming Sunday. The Climb’s success is driven by sales of CD singles, with more than 53,000 sold this chart week. Lady GaGa’s Bad Romance single (Polydor) is currently a distant third in midweek sales flashes, according to numbers from the Official Charts Company. On the albums chart, it is a two-way battle between Michael Buble’s Crazy Love (Reprise) and current chart topper, Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream (Syco). Crazy Love is currently ahead, but by a margin of just 5,000 copies in what is a strong week for album sales. =============================== Top 40 Only Singles http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/XFACTWINCDS.JPG 1 Joe McElderry (80k) 2 Rage Against The Machine (40k) 3 Lady GaGa 4 Cheryl Cole (When combined) 5 3OH!3 feat. December 22, 200916 yr This week is not gonna be too exciting. I hope at least Young Forever can go top 40 this week.
December 22, 200916 yr Joe to take number one and Cheryl top five please. Oh and Jay Z top 40 too - Love that song!
December 22, 200916 yr Author If Joe goes to #1 technically he is going to be the first #1 of 2010, because of the week ending 2 Jan  http://www.everyhit.com/number5.html 1999
December 22, 200916 yr Joe probably going to be #2 today but take over by tomorrow/thursday. Hopefully Cheryl can get top 5 but I can see her just missing it :(
December 22, 200916 yr Author Cheryl's physical is just going to get lost, not many people will know its out plus it could have stocking problems, the worst time of the year to release a physical, it could just nip #5.
December 22, 200916 yr If Joe goes to #1 technically he is going to be the first #1 of 2010, because of the week ending 2 Jan  http://www.everyhit.com/number5.html 1999 I believe the formula for working out which year it is is taking 6 days off it, then that year is the year it belongs to... so w/e 1st-6th Jan would still be the previous year, w/e 7th Jan or later is the year shown. Plus this week is the 52nd week of 2009 anyway. I had a strange feeling that Bublé's album would be #1 this week :o It was always gonna get there one week anyway. It's been pretty quiet chart-wise to say that it will pass 1,000,000 sales this week... And I expected Joe to be #1 but not by that much. How can he have sold 53k physical in this weather? Ah well, I hope RATM can stay at #2 for the week, and they'll still have the highest sales week of the year on 502k. Edited December 22, 200916 yr by BrayFish
December 22, 200916 yr WOW! Take That ... top 5 in the albums? I guess the ITV show did some good ... although it did cut out huge amounts. Hope the DVD benefits more though. I'm guessing sales of the DVD must be approaching 400K. Norma
December 22, 200916 yr Go Michael... Go Michael... :dancing: :dancing: I wonder if Susan will overtake :puke2:
December 22, 200916 yr wow i didn't think susan would be dethroned for a while but buble's lookin like he just might..
December 22, 200916 yr What really is the point of those 80,000 singles Joe has sold this week why did these same people not buy last week and get him to No 1.Unless the song has improved in quality it is a real waste he will still be remembered as the boy who missed out on the Christmas No 1.
December 22, 200916 yr Well atleast it looks like Poker Face will hold on to the top spot on the ytd chart :)
