December 22, 200916 yr Well, as far as I'm aware, we've just had the 51st week of '09. If next week is counted as 2010, 2009 is a 51-week year. That makes no sense. Next week is counted as 2009, isn't it?
December 22, 200916 yr I dont care what the rules say Joe's number 1 is in 2009 because it is announced in 2009, nevermind the fact that 100% of it's sales happened in 2009.
December 22, 200916 yr Next week is counted as 2009, isn't it? I thought it was, but according to a couple of people on this thread it is a 2010 week... Maybe the OCC consider W/E 3rd Jan 2009 to be part of 2009 then (that's Alexandra's second week at #1, announced in '08 with all sales from '08) and we've actually just had week 52 in OCC's terms - I'm still sticking to my classification theory of 6 days before the week end date. December 22, 200916 yr Author How can Cheryl be at number 4 when on Digital Spy they say she's non-mover. DS don't know that the single is listed twice in the top 100, when the single combine its sales for both tracks its #4
December 22, 200916 yr I think it needs to be changed on how they do it tbh. They seem to do it all a week behind as Surely KITN is the #1 of 13/12/09 to 19/12/09 and this weeks #1 from the 20/12/09 to 26/12/09 is yet to be decided. And then that'll make the bolded week the Xmas #1 week. Which would also make it the last chart of the year. And the first chart of 2010 would be 27/12/09 to 02/01/10. And IMO the xmas #1 should be done differently, it should be the song that sells the most over 24th, 25th and 26th December and separate from the weekly chart.

I agree with last week being Xmas week though - Rage will be #1 on Xmas day due to the fact that the chart covering the Xmas day sales period has yet to be announced.
December 22, 200916 yr I hope Joe stays number 1 but im sure rage against the machine campaign will put some effort in this week aswell. I also hope buble stays number 1 i like susan but she has had her run at number 1 and buble has yet to have a number 1 album and he really has shifted alot of albums in his career. Im thrilled the itv show has helped Take That climb backinto the top 5 and even if it doesnt stay there it will stay top 10 for another week and probably take its slaes very near 400,000 which would be amazing for a live album in just 4 weeks, also really happy to see the circus back in the top 40, im sure the dvd will also stay number 1 for them and will possibly sell half a million copies in total very soon. does anyone know how far Take Thats the circus album is away from 2 million being sold? if it stays top 40 it come very very close this week.
December 22, 200916 yr Does it matter whether it's 51, 52 or 53 weeks  The date of Music Week, like the date of Billboard determines the chart date. The first #1 of 2010 on the Billboard Hot 100 will be announced on Wednesday, even though (in reality), it's for sales ending Sunday, 20th December, 2009.The first #1 of 2010 in the UK will be announced on Sunday, even though it's for sales ending Saturday, 26th December, 2009.
December 22, 200916 yr In 2009, the 1st Chart of the Year was the W/E 10th January. The OCC regard the W/E 3rd January Chart as a 2008 Chart. That's because ALL of its Sales were in 2008. (It isn't Dates that decide it - it is the Sales Period! That's why the Virgin 'Hit Albums' Book goes up to W/E 3rd January 2009. And why the Virgin 'Top 40' Book, also goes up to that Chart). The final Chart of 2009 will be the Chart of W/E 2nd January 2010. This is because The OCC go by when most of, (or all), of the SALES came from, for a Chart. The Sales for the Chart of W/E 2nd January, come from 2009. They are Sales that will take place from Sunday 20th December to Saturday 26th December. That means that NONE of the Sales for the W/E 2nd January Chart will be in 2010 - not one. So why on Earth should it be regarded as the 1st Chart of 2010? The 1st Chart of 2010 will be the Chart of W/E 9th January 2010. That will have Sales from Sunday 27th December to Saturday 2nd January in it. As it contains some 2010 Sales, The OCC are happy to see it as the 1st Chart of 2010. To be honest, the 1st 2010 Chart, to have soley 2010 Sales in it, will be the Chart of W/E 16th January. The Sales for that will be from Sunday 3rd January to Saturday 9th January. However, The OCC deem it too late in a Year, to start the 1st Chart from the W/E 16th January - hence why it will be W/E 9th January. Again - for those who don't see why the W/E 2nd January Chart, is a 2009 one - ALL of the Sales in that Chart will be 2009 Sales - so they go towards 2009 - as does the Chart. It is perfectly reasonable, fair, sensible, & logical. I fail to see why some people have a problem with it..... Edited December 22, 200916 yr by zeus555

December 22, 200916 yr Can someone please explain why Cheryl is number 4 but on she's still at number 7 on Digital Spy forums. Tuesday Midweeks are weird.
December 22, 200916 yr You guys are being far too pedantic  Chart dates have never referred to when the sales actually occur - it refers to the magazine date, whether it's Billboard or Music Week. We all know that the first #1 of 2010 will have some sales from 2009 - it's always been like that.
December 22, 200916 yr First chart show of 2010 is the 3rd of January, which is the week after this one, very easy.
December 22, 200916 yr First chart show of 2010 is the 3rd of January, which is the week after this one, very easy. We're talking in terms of charts as published in Music Week, ie, the chart announced this Sunday, will be known as the chart for week ending 2nd, January 2010.
December 22, 200916 yr Author Can someone please explain why Cheryl is number 4 but on she's still at number 7 on Digital Spy forums. Tuesday Midweeks are weird. I've just exlained that in one of my previous post, Have you been reading
December 22, 200916 yr Britster - The OCC regards W/E 3rd January 2009 as the last Chart of 2008, & the W/E 2nd January 2010, will be regarded as the last Chart of 2009. Everything that The OCC, (& Virgin Chart Books), do, is geared towards the Sales period. Anyone who tries to work out the 'Best Sellers' of 2008 or 2009, & leaves out the W/E 3rd January or W/E 2nd January Sales/ Charts, will find that their Totals do not match those of The OCC. December 22, 200916 yr I find it weird how it is regarded that Joe isn't Christmas one but will have sold more than RATM by the time christmas day arrives. Edited December 22, 200916 yr by Sharpshooter
December 22, 200916 yr RyanJL if you know that Cheryl combined is # 4 maybe you have some sales info?
December 22, 200916 yr does anyone know how far Take Thats the circus album is away from 2 million being sold? if it stays top 40 it come very very close this week. Pete ... I'm guessing that they'll have done it by this Sunday. I've tried in the sales thread and the top albums of 2009 to get a firmer answer (no-one is answering as they're being bombarded with Leona, Alex and Cheryl questions) ... but by my reckoning ... at the end of last week they only needed at max another 25K to do it. As they're number 34 (ish) today ... I think its a 2m seller by the end of 2009. I'm really pleased as I didn't think it would hit that mark until next February at the earliest. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Hurrah for Take That (and for the fact that as its snowing heavily ... I'm not going to work today). Norma Edited December 22, 200916 yr by Norma_Snockers
