Due to an increasing amount of dissent within the contest in recent months with the originality of many/a select few prominent entries, and worries over the effects upon the quality of contests that entries which in all likelihood are being introduced to either no, or very few contestants are having, the moderating team, in collaboration with former moderators, has come to a compromise which we think will add an element of risk to the selection of 'uninspired' entries, along with a few clauses and the extension of a current rule.

Therefore, as of bjsc_twentyfour//, the following rules will come into play:

- Any tracks from the current album of an artist with an ACTIVE (i.e., not archived) Artist Forum on BuzzJack are not eligible for entry into the BJSC, until the release of the next album. Deluxe editions count as being one and the same as the current era - for example, tracks from The Fame AND The Fame Monster are ineligible for entry into the BJSC until the release of Lady GaGa's next album. B-sides and Live Lounge covers et al are all still permitted for entry.

- The moderators reserve the right to compose a ban-list for each contest. We hope we won't have to use this right for every contest, but we felt it was getting a bit silly when people could predict the winners of the next contest before the one before had even started its finals. Obviously, tracks on these ban-lists will be forbidden. We do promise to use them sparingly - you aren't going to see us whipping out the ban-list at even the slightest hint of cheapness, only for the big offenders :P

And, onto the big change:

- Other than tracks which fall under the jurisdiction of the above two rules (and any already in place), you are permitted to send anything! However, beware. Should, during the progress of a contest, your entry/its video end up on any of the following charts/lists, your track will be disqualified with immediate effect:

- The Radio 1 Playlist (A, B, and C, but not Up-Front)

- The MTV Hits playlist (A, B, and C, but not Brand New): http://www.mtv.co.uk/channels/mtv-hits/playlist

- The Top 40 of the UK iTunes or the UK Singles Chart

- The Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100

Cases where tracks have ended up on these lists by complete surprise (we're thinking Rage Against The Machine style take-offs, or for example, if MTV Hits were to promote Eliza Doolittle to the C list or something) will be considered and reviewed by the moderating team, but be prepared to argue your case strongly and don't count on being given leeway by virtue of the fact that the contest has already started or whatever.

We hope that by introducing an element of the gamble entrants will consider their entries more carefully in future. In order to accommodate for these changes, if anybody has confirmed a track which becomes ineligible before the beginning of the contest, they will be permitted one free change (which may or may not be necessary, depending on whether the host has decided to ban entry changes or not).

These rules do not apply to spin-offs.

Ultimately, we felt that the point of the BJSC was discovering new music. Yes, of course it's a bit of fun, but what is the point of entries that are already known to the vast majority of contestants by virtue of massive hype or already-present popularity? The BJSC would be rendered a pointless exercise in just ordering your favourites from tracks you already know of - and if you really want to do that, that's what Personal Charts is for. The best contests are almost universally remembered as the ones which provide people with new music which they would not have otherwise heard, and in the last few contests the triumph of already known and hyped tracks has been verging on endemic, a trend which has only served to encourage the proliferation of entries of these nature. We do realise that regulation such as this isn't going to be popular, and in an ideal world there would be no regulation whatsoever, but ultimately it was felt it was growing to be such a problem that something needed to be done.

Feel free to start bitching on us...NOW. Useful criticism/suggestions will obviously be considered.

Should I bother staying awake for this?

TBH i have no idea if it's coming tonight.

If it helps make this any quicker I can re-assume my mod post just for tonight
Should I bother staying awake for this?

No. I can't imagine it'll be posted today. (not so urgent after all?)
