I am also quite annoyed that Bev is banned, but ultimately then going on to say 'all AFs except X, Y and Z are banned' would've been one exception too far, and pure cannon fodder to the opposition.

As I've said, people can't be counting on leeway :P

If it would be too far to have exceptions to rules then what's with the banlist?

I didn't say it would be too far to have exceptions, I said that selecting AFs would be one exception too far :P I would much rather prefer to not have a banlist but there is no perfect method, so it's a guard...in any case, we have pledged to only use it where necessary, for obviously uninspired tracks with a lot of hype. I've already turned down requests to ban the Ke$ha album and several individual tracks which are mildly cheap at best, on the principle that looking at the majority of the tracks affected by this ruling it's just getting rid of the worst offenders (+ Bev -_-).

So Ke$ha's extremely hyped, well known and loved (on BuzzJack at least) album tracks are all fair game for XXIV yet I can't send that Will Young song from his hits album that nobody will have heard because he has an AF on here? :P

I have to admit, even when common sense tells me I ought to, the backlash against the banlist has made me reluctant to put anything on there unless it seems very obviously uninspired...

Exactly, this rule is stupid etc.

A good Glee song would also win this now, but it's not banned. "Don't Stop Believin'" was just sent too early, it'd win now.

Except it wouldn't, it'd be banned :P

And would've been banned under the Billboard clause had it been in place at the time :P Trust me, we aren't going to have a Glee victory if Don't Stop Believin' didn't win, there's really nothing else on there (thus far) that has been anything more than glorified karaoke...

OK, we realise that a lot of people are obviously apprehensive at such a rule being enforced. I'd ask that you give it a chance. We aren't fools - we know if a rule isn't working, and it'll be clear if this rule doesn't work. If after three contests it's obvious that there are problems, the rule will be changed!

I would given "Defying Gravity" my 12 :kink:

Although the problem there is that if the rule or an aspect of it is removed after a few contests (let's say the Radio 1 playlist rule for the sake of argument), then it will be a novelty to finally be able to enter songs from the Radio 1 playlist, so alot of people will look there for entries, just because they can.

It didn't quite work that way with the Eurovision NF rule though, did it? :P It's had the odd entry since, but not really that many...

suppose this is kinda good ....

'My Life Would Suck Without You' it is for me then :kink:

The BJSC winner that originally never was :drama:

IMO, I think this whole banning of songs is completely POINTLESS. I don't think the contests quality has decreased because, at most, 2 or 3 generally cheap songs were sent. As you've highlighted in your list of songs that would have been banned in the previous contest, there's only ONE contest where it would have had a 'big' effect but even then I first heard 'Shark In The Water' from this contest, or in a thread that Ben probably posted himself and the same with Jake sending Florence.

I do agree that some songs are incredibly cheap, like 'Forever Is Over' or such like, but even The Saturdays are generally hated on Buzzjack.

With regards to people's complaints, which I assume some may be pointed at both 'Under The Sheets' and 'Hollywood' winning the last two contests, people CAN boycott songs. If they're to say this contest is all about "discovering new music" then why did they vote for it? Considering 'Hollywood' received at least one point from about 70% of the people who voted, I don't really feel many people can complain about 'Hollywood' winning.

Also, I feel on the whole contest has improved dramatically overall from when I joined in IX.

I find the whole banning of songs completely ridiculous. It's a SONG CONTEST ON A INTERNET FORUM! Let people enjoy the contest the way they wish to, whether that be sending a known song or not. I reckon probably 3 out of the 30 songs in the last final would have been banned. I think it's COMPLETELY unnecessary to bring this ban in to stop THREE songs each final from being removed. It really doesn't affect the TWENTY-SEVEN other songs they COULD have voted from doing well or them discovering in the contest.

Oh dear 9 pages, can we just give it a go, otherwise if its not broken don't fix it :heehee:

 I second all of this :P (He worded it far better than I ever could :drama:) I especially agree with the last paragraph or so.

This

I'm still annoyed that Bev is banned. How else am I meant to get people to pay attention to her?! That's the reason I joined this contest. Sad times. I basically agree with Peter, but I'm outnumbered.
It's just anything off 100%

If you want to send Bev you'll just have to find another Black Butta that isn't on 100%

THIS

Well excpet for The Saturdays are hated, they are #2 on the multichart :P

I think people just disliked the lack of tension/excitement/trhill as "Hollywood was going to win from the moment it was entered". And it definitely seemed so during the final show.

I don't see it as a big deal if some songs are banned, as it's not all that difficult finding a song which is likable and not on these lists.

IT'S ACTUALLY QUITE EASY!
