Beware of the Dog is HARDLY a carbon copy of SOS (which got to #2 anyway :P) - it samples a completely different song for one! I'd say that would've gone down far better about two or three years later...

I'd say Kelly Osbourne - One Word and the entirety of Rachel Stevens' Come And Get It era was very ahead of its time. I'd say there's also a trend of some songs coming along too late...I reckon had The Noisettes - Never Forget You and Paloma Faith - New York been released 12 months before they'd have both easily gone top 3, if not more.

ok #2...something what Jamelia wanted but miserably failed :P

I know they have a different samples but IMO going the same routes as Rihannas SOS (sampling, electro sound, bass, beats etc etc) is what makes me think it was copy.

I think Keshas Tik tok wouldve been an easy number 1, had it not been for all the X factor domination of the charts

Yeah, if the X Factor weren't around at that time, it's chart run would've been more like:

3-3-3-5-6-4-6-6-3-7-10-11-13 (i checked :kink:)

Maybe only #3 but the other two singers which were non-X Factor and ahead of it promoted on the X Factor the week before... so who knows? lol! Let's hope Blah can get her a UK #1 -_-

I maybe on my own with this one (but I found this on an old CD :kink:) but Hilary Duff 'Beat Of My Heart' could have been a Top 20 hit at least if released around now, surely? Maybe with a little more production and more of an electro-y sound though (which would suit it perfectly).

Mis Teeq - All I Want (couldd have gone #1 around these past couple of years)

I agree with the VB songs This Groove and Let Your Head Go, Jamelia's BOTD and Alesha's Lipstick.

I'd also add Xtina's Candyman, KC's SUBG/BOY/BTHE and Cherish's Killa.

i loved that song years ago :)

Dizzee Rascal - Sirens

Easily his best pre-Tongue N' Cheek single.

it was great but my fav from him is def fix up look sharpe from 2003 - the beat is amazing!!

I'm agreeing with Victoria Beckham 'Let Your Head Go' it should have been a #1 smash imo!
just thinking about something from another thread

Emma Bunton's 2003/4 era was about 5 years ahead of it's time - Free Me, Maybe and I'll Be There could have done well in 2008 along with Duffy, Adele, the Amy's, Gabriella etc...

all three were top ten hits but they didn't particularly linger around for very long and would have got much more airplay in 2008

Can't see it somehow - Spice Girls were old news by 2008 and I can't think any Spice Girls solo singles would have got much worthwhile airplay however good they were unfortunately.

^^i think the question isnt worded right - by saying the songs were 'ahead of their time' it makes them sound like people werent ready for them then and they were really unique when in reality songs do well due to the type of song they are - eg 2004-06 rock was big and consistently got to the top 10 of the singles charts whereas now its all about (cheesy|) pop again. also the artist is important now - eg the likes of rihanna, jls and alicia keys are big favs of people right now and are doing consistently well - people dont like the spice girls as much any more so even if they released a great new song it would still struggle in the charts.

Dizzee's 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' would have been huge now given his current stature. 'Supermassive Black Hole' would have had a MASSIVE #1 chance if it had been released as the lead for "The Resistance", and I'd say Oasis releasing 'The Importance of Being Idle' instead of 'Lyla' would have doubled its sales.

Also, had Green Day released 'Basket Case' instead of 'Know Your Enemy' it would have flown to #1. Well, maybe had they taken slightly less time to finish the album. That would have triggered bigger album sales and exposure for 21 Guns which would have surely gone top 10.

This may sound odd, but I think if flop boyband Phixx had come out from last year's X Factor rather than Popstars, they could have done OK for themselves.

Their 80s sounds actually sounds fresh now, where it sounded incredibly dated back in '03.

Britney's Gimme More & Womanizer would've been #01's had she not released in the hardest week ever! :(

Womanizer was number 1... For 3(?) weeks...

Anyways...

Back to the thread...

EXCELLENT point about Garbage - Cherry Lips. Brilliant song.

Womanizer was number 1... For 3(?) weeks...

Womanizer peaked at #3, as did Gimme More. It didn't have 1 week at #1 let alone three.
