Sure i only work in a supermarket, but i can relate. The moral on my department has passed rock bottom now. Our supervisor's a lazy sack of $h!t who's quite happy to drop everyone else in it as long as she's fine.

She can f*** right off.

Retail is horrific.

Not a nice way to talk about your boss. Seriously, if it's so bad then get a different job instead of whingeing.

Oh yes because in a recession the easiest thing to do for a skint student is to just find another job

I can't get dole money because i'm a student. There are no jobs where i am, so i stay put with my useless supervisor who does nothing all day then leaves whoever has been stuck with the close to do everything on their own and then moans when something insignificant hasn't been done the microsecond it's dictated to you. In a job that hurts my back because the counters are between 1.5 and 2.5 foot high and the sink is barely off the ground, and the utterly diabolical Store management who are useless, pawn you off with the same excuses and told me that if a GP said i couldn't do my current job i'd be sacked because 'they are having a hiring freeze' and 'have no instore vacancies' which is of course why a lad just moved from Checkouts to the Cafe leaving behind an unfilled checkout contract [not to mention there are spare contracts on the Deli, FFPP, Oven Fresh where i work and various other departments] they won't even retrain me for checkouts which i have been asking for since September well before this bull$h!t hiring freeze [which was for Jan only apparently, my f***ing ass] nor move me to the department i was hired to do. All because i can't get another job.

Unlike your money, job's don't grow on trees. This you'd know if you'd made the effort to get off your ass and find one.

I do quite like company policies. I must be one of the few. I really enjoy telling customers their pies are cold because the government have gone H&S mad and that no they cant freeze it incase they f*** it and poison themselves and then sue the company for their stupidity. Some of them are epicly amazing as well like i can't cut Belly Pork once it's cooked and i can only unload a tiny number of things from the ovens at a time  No sarcasm here, i genuine love Company policy it brightens up my day

I wasn't having a go Silas but think people should be reasonably happy in their job and you don't sound to be. Anyway why do you need to work? As a student don't you get a grant or loan I think it is these days? I know some students work but many others don't and seem to manage. I've told my daughter she has to get a Saturday job when she's in 6th form. No ifs and buts, she has to.

As someone who's spent two years at uni there are only two types of students that get away without working.

1) Those that are bailed out by wealthy parents/grandparents.

2) Those that go to a uni close to home and live with parents and therefore don't use their loan to pay rent.

Anyone else I know either works full time during the Summer and maybe Christmas holidays, or has a part time job whilst at uni. My loan and grant last year came to a bit under £5,000. My rent for basic student accommadation came to £3,960. That left me £1,000 (around £25 a week) to eat, drink, have a social life, buy text books, travel and everything else I might need. I don't think so somehow...

No, i get f*** all.

My tuition is paid by the government, so the maximum loan i can get is about £3500, which doesn't even cover my rent for the year. I don't have family money, so i have to work. I can't afford to be unemployed or i will physically be declared bankrupt at age 20.

Most people i know have to work.

It is really bad when students are expected to study and work (some working almost full-time hours). Then to leave actually starting your working life in debt! My niece went through it all but thankfully its now all paid off and she's got a brilliant job now (it did take years to pay the debt off though). What was really annoying was that her mum and dad had just ordinary jobs at the time ... a very working class family ... and yet some others at the university (whose parents were actually stinking rich) found a way around the system to actually get a grant ... not a loan! A grant! Unfortunately ... the education system will always favour the rich.

God don't get me started. Working for Local Government, absolutely NOTHING gets done. Management sit around pondering what to do about the next staffing crisis or the fact they have to cut £45 million from the budget over the next 3 years while the real work gets left behind. We're stuck in endless meetings to discuss how we can "help the customer" when all they want is us to answer the phone.

Aside from that, I work with the most amazing group of people in our office and get on with all of them so collections don't bother me. Happy to give a few quid or more.

I wear jeans to work pretty much every day because I'm lazy. Meh who cares.

The thing that frustrates me most is people who don't pull their weight. Do not sit around on the internet all day, or day dreaming, when you should be working because I'm going to kick you in the arse. (Well, I'm not allowed apparently which is another BAD thing about LG. No discipline whatsoever. The council has no backbone.) I just want to shake them. LOOK, IT'D BE BETTER IF YOU JUST SHUT UP AND DID YOUR WORK THEN LIFE WILL GO QUICKER.

No one ever does things to my standard :( So I end up doing it myself.

& I'm paid $h!t for the amount of stuff I have to do and I just want to leave. I just want out now. New Zealand next year please. 2 year working holiday visa. I can't stand watching my life boil down to this.

And breathe.

Did you have a bad day at work Caz? I know I did (sort of!!!) -_-

Sometimes I think exactly the same as the points Caz has made. The lazy workers who don't seem to do any work all morning, then get stressed out in the afternoons because they've got so much work to do. At least my manager won't tolerate other peoples' nonsense. If someone comes to me and says "can you do this for me, please?" all I have to say is "speak to my manager". ^_^

I also agree about the standards comment. I get into work, do my job (whatever is required of me) and go home. I also think I deserve a pay increase considering the amount I do too. Irony is that I mentioned this to my "old" boss who was the company Sales & Operations Manager. He says he'd look into it and guaranteed that he would get back to me. He was sacked about three weeks later. -_- My salary increase in April 2009 was an eye watering 10p!!! :nocheer:

That said, I've been with the company over 5 years becoming part of the furniture. Sadly, it's not been the same (we had an office in Stockport where I was based but was closed down last May) ever since I moved to our Manchester office beginning of last year. :(

It wasn't awful but sometimes I need a good rant. Especially when people p*** me off.

My workers don't even get stressed out! They just sit about pretending they have all the time in the world. Sure, the job is boring but you aren't helping yourself by looking at loan companies ALL DAY LONG. How to p*** me off: do NOTHING. Gawd. I'm gunna start wishing they had long term sick at this rate just so I can have some decent staff.

I've been here 3 years which is so unbelievably scary. Was only meant to stay 4 months

I have worked for Government and now NGO for over 12 years. As you can imagine I have experienced it all - meetings about having meetings (actually true as ridiculous as it sounds), massive fights in the office (more verbal than physical luckily), bullying, gossip, totally imcompetent management, the list goes on :(

My boss at the moment is totally lazy. He has been at his grade since the 80s and is very old skool about management - ie everyone else needs to do things except him. He sits opposite me now and he likes to have a go at me as he feels threatened as I know alot more than he does about the job.

Happy days. Sigh.

Let's all quit our jobs and run away to my little idealistic island where we're all equal and get to chillax on a beach.

I'd love to!

I think there should be another forum on here for those of us over a certain age. I mean apart from retro (they get all arsey unless you talk about old music in there). I mean a general 'grumpy old gits' forum.

Norma

excuse me! but thats exactly what retros for!

non music subjects get 0 replies, modern music is catered for on just about every other forum on this site...

tbh i dont think buzzjacks the place for 'old people', its a modern site catering for modern entertainment, maybe its time to move on. there are other adult (as in for older people) sites where maturer people can go. this site isnt for us.

maybe its time to leave.

But I like you and your grumpy ways ... and Grimly for that matter.

You're right though ... this site is for young people. I don't think anyone over the age of 25 should really post on BJ at all! Where are these sites for older people? And I mean older / interesting people.

If it's hot and sunny i'm there.

Of course it will be. I've had enough rain and snow to last me a lifetime.
