next stop #1 please rihanna, do it in time for sunday please, so you start next week on top!

...and end up no. 1 in the Big Top 40 chart this Sunday. :D

I'm surprise at the gap between 10-11, I don't think I've ever noticed a week previous where there was such a noticeable gap in popularity between those two positions.

You are right, people do not think like that. However, it is a more than well known fact that, on the whole, the more column inches you get, the more records you sell. Most articles about singers (of whatever nature) include a few filler lines about their latest promotion for their new single or album. What has happened to Cheryl is a terrible shame, but it couldn't really have come at a better time.

Oh I agree, although I'm sure she won't see it like that :(

Anyway #8 just on the coverage from her split is a good sign, once more airplay kicks in and she does Ross/Live Lounge, etc. she'll hopefully go Top 5, if not 3 or maybe even #1? Not sure what else is out that week

'Parachute' is on the week with 'Telephone' and 'Rock That Body' physical releases + Inna 'Hot' which might be huge.
No #1 then  As long as it sells alot!

I'd love Rihanna to get a third (technically fourth) number one with Rude Boy.

I was one of the few on here who instantly knew this would be a huge it - a bigger one than Hard. ^_^

WOW at the BEP's, I didn't think this would climb so fast, it will peak very high :o Is it the first time we'll see last years champs Gaga and BEP's heads up then? A grand chart battle :cheer:

I hope Leona climbs higher... at least gets top 10.

Yes! Go Rihanna! I so want her to get #1 with this!

And good for Cheryl too! She needs to climb as much as possible to stay in the top10 next week with the hot new releases out!

Come RiRi! next stop number 1. Rude Boy is billion times better than In My Head. PLEASE PEOPLE DOWNLOAD RUDE BOY!!!!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :w00t:  :funky: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Suprised 'Wear My Kiss' is still top10.

was AAG not out of the top10 by now?

ok someone let me into the 'weekend effect' thing, i hear it and still don't know what it is lol

I think it has something to do with slightly older tracks going up for some reason like Starstrukk, Owl City etc. I'm not sure though :P

the weekend effect is where songs that were out in the same week begin to fall around friday night and older songs climb.

hope that helps. :D

ok but what would be the reasoning behind this?

I think it's something to do with the radio stations playing older music rather than newer music or something. that, or as lots of people download them earlier on in the week they lose downloads so they begin to fall a little. at least, that's what I think.

Or it could be just that people here them on a night out and music channels have them "Friday Night Party Mix" and stuff. Songs that are big in clubs (believe it or not 'Don't Stop Believin'' by GLEE is massive in Nottingham  (For example :P)
Yeah, the weekend effect is basically all the big hits that are a few weeks (or months) old, particularly the big anthemic ones rise at the weekend because they get played out everywhere and get downloaded more, pushing the newer stuff down.
