Posted March 8, 201016 yr Gorillaz battle Boyzone for albums crown 11:28 | Tuesday March 9, 2010 Source: MW By Ben Cardew Singles Should Gorillaz debut at the top of the albums chart, Parlophone stands a good chance of topping both singles and albums rundowns: Tinie Tempah’s Pass Out, the Parlophone release that debuted at number one on the singles chart last Sunday, looks set to extend its run to two weeks according to early sales figures. It has a lead of more than 5,000 over Rihanna’s Rude Boy (Def Jam), which itself is around 2,000 copies ahead of Ludacris’s Baby (Def Jam). Gabriella Cilmi’s On A Mission (Island) looks set to debut within the top ten, while Mclean’s My Name (Asylum) should be in or around the ten. The news is not so positive for Goldfrapp, however: their comeback single Rocket looks set to miss out on a top 40 debut. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums Gorillaz and Boyzone lead a close fight for the number one album slot this week, with new releases from Amy Macdonald and Andrew Lloyd Webber also set to debut high up the chart. At the moment Gorillaz’ third album Plastic Beach (Parlophone) has a slender lead over Boyzone’s Brother (Polydor), followed by Macdonald’s second album A Curious Thing and the Original Cast Recording from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, the follow up to Phantom Of The Opera. In a busy week for new releases, albums from the likes of Jimi Hendrix (Valleys Of Neptune [Columbia]), Airbourne (No Guts No Glory [Roadrunner]), Lemar (The Hits [Epic]) and Broken Bells (Broken Bells [Columbia]) are all challenging to debut within the top 30. Meanwhile, Simply Red’s Tesco exclusive album Songs Of Love (Simplyred.com) looks set to climb the charts on the back of the retailer’s TV advertising campaign kicking in pre-Mother’s Day. It debuted at 25 last week but is currently within the top 20 in midweek sales flashes. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Top 40 Only Singles 1 Tinie Tempah (5k ahead of Rihanna) 2 Rihanna (2k ahead of Justin Bieber) 3 Justin Bieber feat.
