Plan B leads race for albums crown in a week of chart battles

10:57 | Tuesday April 13, 2010

Source: MW

Albums

Three new entries are challenging to top the album charts this week, with Plan B's second album The Defamation of Strickland Banks (679/Atlantic) the frontrunner, ahead of Scouting For Girls and MGMT.

The Defamation has a lead of around 7,500 over Scouting For Girls' second album Everybody Wants To Be On TV (Epic), but the Epic act are frontrunning in singles, where their This Ain't A Love Song leads Professor Green's I Need You Tonight (Virgin) by less than 200 units.

MGMT's second album Congratulations (Columbia), which has been picking up strong reviews, trails in third on the albums chart, more than 10,000 copies behind Scouting For Girls.

After a quiet few weeks for new entries on the chart, a raft of new albums and re-releases are set to debut within the top 75 this Sunday, including Jeff Beck's Emotion and Commotion, Joshua Radin's Simple Times, Coheed and Cambria's Year Of the Black Rainbow and Frankie Goes To Holllywood's Welcome To The Pleasuredome.

Singles

It is a similar tale in singles. I Need You Tonight is set to continue EMI's recent success with new artists in the singles chart, with Eliza Doolittle's Skinny Genes (Parlophone) also set to debut within the top 30 this Sunday.

Meanwhile, four Universal artists are set to debut within the singles top 20 this week: Selena Gomez and The Scene; Kelis; Paul Weller and Kate Nash.

Its going to be a very interesting chart this week. aloha everyong

Aloha!! :)

Exciting charts in both singles and albums this week. Things will definitely change as well between now and Friday/Sunday in the upper regions of both charts (especially the singles) so its all to play for.

Hopefully sales get a nice well earned boost too from the dire levels of the last couple of weeks.

Hey SpI :kink:

I think Acapella will debut at #9 today, possibly #8. Selena will be at #7? Prof Green will be #4 maybe. All Night Long NOT Top 40 is likely :(

Beyonce top 20? :kink:

Exciting chart today - I hope KOL's album climbs again or at least stays top 15/20 in the albums, and there's a whole bunch of stuff I'd like to happen on singles. Pro Green for #1 (he won't be today though), Kelis for top 5, Selena for top 10, Kate for top 15, 30 Secs for top 40...
Professor Green is gonna end up #01 in this before the end of the week, isn't he? An absolute travesty - worst song of 2009 + 2010, let alone worst #01.

:heehee: What's with the capital "s"? :kink:

All of those look spot on I think.

Also reckon Kate Nash will be around #15, Dirty Picture #14-#16, ANL just outside top 40, Bey alb prob top 20!!

Why thank you :D I'm normally far off though :(

I don't know why i put a capital "s" Good grammar

I'm actually wondering if Selena could be very low today. Possibly #10. It reminds me of Hot, Outta Here, Release Me etc of charting high on iTunes but not so high on the official chart.

Professor Green almost certainly going to take it in the singles chart then I reckon.

Looks like Plan B have it in the bag on the albums.

What a terrible single report

I know, useless innit? I'm hoping that Usher can take it by the end of the week. Don't like it much but lesser of two evils, you know.

Charts are going to have a bit of a freshen up this week then.

Can't believe how stale the Album chart has been... great for Lady GaGa though getting #1 again.
