Posted April 14, 201015 yr New Caprica The New Caprican Flag: http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy211/DanielMiles17/Clag.jpg Capital City: SHINee Population: 1,992,178,019 Official languages: Korean & English & Picon & Sagittaron History: Due to intense immigration, that has led to there being a significant Korean and English populations being established*; the relocation of the enitre Picon race after a series of natural disasters rendered their home country uninhabitable and a booming birth rate, New Caprica has become one of the most overpopulated countries in the world. This has led to a growing conflict with the indigenous Sagittaron race (who are now the minority). Korean and Sagittaron music tends to dominate the charts, however the English music scene continues to grow. * The capital has recently been forced to change due to expansion issues - the new capital is a large Korean settlement that is named after the legendary South Korean band SHINee - however the Government have yet to establish themselves in SHINee yet. This decision has faced severe opposition and is currently being debated in Parliament; this is an important issue for the upcoming New Caprica general election. So I've narrowed it down and here are my song choices for internal selection. For my first time in the BJSC I have decided to go for a Korean theme - so these are my favourite (south) Korean songs; three songs from one of my favourite girl bands, a nine-member South Korean group called 소녀시대 or So Nyeo Shi Dae (normally abrievated to SNSD) in English it's translated to Girls's Generation. They were formed in 2007 by SM Entertainment who house the biggest names in Korean music, including the boyband SHINee, whose song Ring Ding Dong is my fourth potential entry. In their music industry the record labels, such as SM Entertainment, hold open auditions up and down the country and also in America. The lucky few are then trained for years in everything from dance to vocals and are then 'launched'. Most artists release a lot of mini albums (EPs) and normally before every album (mini and full length) they release a 'concept' which the album will then be based around. For example, Girls' Generation announced their re-packaged second album would be based around a 'Black SoShi' or 'Dark Girls' Generation' concept. The lead single 'Run Devil Run' was more 'dark' and 'sexual' then their earlier material (compare 'Run Devil Run' to 'Gee' and you will see what I mean). Lastly the dance routines are just as, if not more, important than the song itself - every song has a dance catch, normally in the chorus, and most songs become successful off the back of a good dance catch. The Internal Selection is closed. Thanks to everyone who offered their feedbak and kind welcome, and I can now reveal that New Caprica's confirmed entry for BJSC XXIV is.... New Caprica's BJSC 26 Entry: Girls' Generation 소녀시대 - Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) Lead single from their second mini album "Genie" this song was Girls' Generation's sixth hit. The song starts at 29 seconds in, the first bit is the intro 6SwiSpudKWI [with English subtitles] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJHrsD0-Y_U...player_embedded If you wish to listen to the other unlucky nominees then feel free, I have also given my reasons for not choosing them, which I have highlighted in red; Girls' Generation 소녀시대 - Gee From their EP "First Mini Album - Gee". It spent a record breaking eight consecutive weeks at No.1 on online music chart M.Net and is their most successful single to date. I did not choose this song, as after giving it more listens and reading the feedback, I came to the conclusion that while it is catchy, it is not western sounding enough to make an impact and change people's view on Asian Pop. U7mPqycQ0tQ Girls' Generation 소녀시대 - Gee (with English Subtitles) 0LHvY1tqxRY Girls' Generation 소녀시대 - Run Devil Run (with English Subtitles) From their re-packaged sophmore album 'Oh!' (the album title was changed to 'Run Devil Run' for the re-release.) It went to #1 on various online charts including M.Net and the television chart Muisc Bank. Ke$ha recorded a demo of 'Run Devil Run' in 2008 as she is close to one of the composers of the song, however Girls' Generation's management brought the rights for the song directly from the composers, so this is not a cover but the original. This song is great, however this version was ruled out by the more BJ friendly Ke$ha mash-up. q_gfD3nvh-8 Girls' Generation 소녀시대 - Run Devil Run (feat. Ke$ha) A mash up of Girls' Generation's Run Devil Run with Ke$ha's demo version that she recorded in 2008. It works very well - thank's so much Tom for showing me this  I haven't replaced it with the original, as some people may prefer one or the other. This was a close runner up, and is the most western sounding of all the possible entries, however I wanted the group to stand on their own and not rely on Ke$ha to gain votes. vUkf5ZDpbS8&feature=player_embedded SHINee - Ring Ding Dong Lead single from SHINee's third mini album "2009, Year of Us. This was more of a funny song with good production, and never really stood a chance. Hopefully, some of the lyrics gave people a good laugh " roughtzsCDI&feature=fvst SHINee - Ring Ding Dong (with English Subtitles) pv4xxte8RN0 Edited April 8, 201114 yr by Daniel II
April 14, 201015 yr I really like the way you've been presenting all of this! :D Good job! ^_^ Although Japanese/korean pop hasn't been all too successful in this contest. But this genre hasn't been sent that many times too, so maybe just those particular songs wasn't appreciated enough, as I've actually noticed some fans in here. Myself included! I think I was the last one to send something in this genre actually  Don't expect to do well though, but if you stick with this people might warm up to it? Tbh it's just great with diversity! :D And yes I'll definitely have a listen and rank them :) Edited April 14, 201015 yr by Freeze

I'm new to this genre myself, my friend introduced me (she loves this genre; her iPod is full of Asian music) and her enthusiasm has rubbed off on me. Korean music has some of the most well produced and catchy pop songs I've ever heard  Edited April 14, 201015 yr by Daniel 소녀시대

April 14, 201015 yr The votes of the Numayanian jury are in, and they are as follows... 4th place goes to SHINee - Ring Ding Dong. This is almost so bad it's good :heehee: Sorry but this is almost a guarantee of last place in the final. The "best" bit is the "fantastic fantastic fantastic fantastic, elastic elastic elastic elastic" bridge  3rd place is for Girls Generation - Gee. The sort of Asian pop that I can't see people in the contest enjoying, unfortunately. It's very hooky, quite catchy, but doesn't really have much melody, or anything to remember it by. 2nd place is... Girls Generation - Run Devil Run. Nice song, people may be familiar with the Ke$ha version, which maybe a bonus. Much more commercial and Western than the first two. Maybe you should send this version? vUkf5ZDpbS8 Which means that the first placed song from the Numayanian televote is... Girls Generation - Tell Me Your Wish (Genie). An incredibly catchy and commercial Lady Gaga style europop track. If this track can't smash in the contest, I'm not sure any Asian pop track ever will, but I would use a version of the video without the intro if you can, it's a bit misleading as it sounds nothing like the rest of the song... overall though, I lovwe it

You made a good point about it being more accessible for people if it has Ke$ha in the song itself, so I have included it in my original list so people can listen and rank it along with the others :) I completely agree about Ring Ding Dong, I love the chorus and the 'dance catch' - it really is a song that you know is bad but you can't help but love anyway (at least that's how it is for me :kink:) and I love SHINee in general so I though I should consider one of their songs and this one was the most catchy for me. The genre for most of their songs is mainly R&B so this is a bit different from their normal style. And btw me and my friends always quote that lyric to eachother as well, it is legendary among us now - even my expert friend has no idea what the hell they are going on about :D And at the moment I agree with your votes; my head says "Tell Me Your Wish" is probably the best choice, but I have a soft spot for 'Gee' Thanks for your votes again :) hopefully I will get enough so that in the end I can have a better idea of what to enter (although you have already given me enough food for thought). April 15, 201015 yr Girls Generation 'Gee' 8.5 Enjoyed this. It's really catchy! Girls Generation 'Run Devil Run' 8.5 Great track, I'm glad someone got to record this track as it was a standout from the Ke$ha demos for me  Girls Generation feat. Ke$ha 'Run Devil Run' 9.0 This works so well and is well worth entering over just GG imo. Girls Generation 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' 9.0 I think I prefer this to the others. It's great. SHINee 'Ring Ding Dong' 7.5 The only thing that saves this for me, is the production. I love the production! But everything else is a bit of a letdown tbh :( My rank: 01. 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' 02. 'Run Devil Run' (Feat. Ke$ha) 03. 'Run Devil Run' 04. 'Gee' 05. 'Ring Ding Dong' But yeah as someone has already stated, for the better result, go with Ke$ha version of RDR, but for just trying to introduce people to a new group or whatever 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' would be a good choice, even if you are destined for bottom place (mainly because most asian tracks don't qualify for the final - so will more than likely result to not doing so well in the final! (unless your name is BOA) :() I really hope you get the chance to turn things around with your choice. but yeah TMYW(G) is my favourite of your selection!
April 15, 201015 yr Author Oh and btw Tom it's funny how you said 'Tell Me Your Wish' reminded you of a Lady GaGa track, because there is a mash up of Tell Me Your Wish, Papparazi and Britney's Toxic floating around on Youtube. I probably won't enter it but it is definitley worth a listen. Thanks for your thoughts JonJo; so do you mean that if I picked one of these songs it wouldn't be eligible for the final at all, or are you just saying it probably won't get enough votes? Oh, and who is BOA? Is he someone who wins these contests a lot? Once again cheers for your rate :) It's looking likely judging by yours and Tom's reaction that Tell Me Your Wish is going to win the internal selection in terms of ranks (and it is probably the strongest song there). And I'm doing this mainly to introduce everyone to the group and Korean/Asian pop music in general. However despite Tell Me Your Wish's strength, I might have to go with the Ke$ha mash-up of Run Devil Run, otherwise without her association I might not have a chance of getting people to pay attention at all, if people don't tend to like Asian music as much as you say. April 15, 201015 yr Welcome to BJSC from The Federal Republic of Ashton!!! You've just stolen our crown as most populated BJSC nation  :kink: Ashton has a little over 1billion people. There are No Semi's this month, so don't worry about J-Pop not qualifying. Traditionally however it does do rather poorly. Granted most of it has been truly $h!te. I'll give your selections a spin and get back to you asap, although it may be about 4am after Bones :kink: Love the thread presentation btw!

Dilemma :thinking:No it would be eligable (any song is eligable as long as it's not on the banlist or whoever has an AF's first two singles from latest era or whatever :P). it's just Asian pop never does very well here for some reason (you should take a look at the stats/songs of threads to see where they've finished previously, it might even motivate you to send a Korean themed song :P) BOA is a female artist and is more suited to RnB. I chose her as an example as she's the only asian artist who seems to get over the half way mark for a hit in this contest :heehee: I'm surprised you haven't heard of her actually :o She's actually quite good... 'Eat You Up': kE7tfExKRhQ 'I Did It For Love': tFny8iYc9L8 But they probably did well because they're sung in English. BJ seems to be biased towards any other language songs

Plus Breathe Me is being used a lot to promote Remember Me so wouldn't be a very inspired choice, on top of the fact she has a new era coming up so she will probably be banned. I've resigned myself now to going down proudly with the sinking ship that is a K-Pop entry. I may enter the GaGa/Britney mash-up of Tell Me Wish Your Wish now I've given it a few more listens  Although I will see the outcome of the internal selection first. April 15, 201015 yr Author ~NEW CAPRICAN POST~ BJSC SPECIAL FEATURE - ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND GOSSIP FROM NEW CAPRICA'S FIRST EVERY ENTRY. SHOCK AS BOOKIES FAVOURITE IS KNOCKED OUT AFTER ONE DAY! Pages 3&4&11&12 A Nation In Shock 'Ring Ding Dong' has crashed out of the National Heat - after just one day. The capital is in a state of shock as the news broke this morning. SHINee are currently unavailable for comment. This means that Girls' Generation face no competition in the heat, with four of their songs battling for victory. However, The New Caprican Post can officially reveal that after the results of the first day, the Government is unhappy that K-Pop doesn't seem to be popular among other countries , and are just as shocked as any at SHINee's spectacular fail. A last minute crisis talk was called and late last night a second heat was announed to be opened latter today: and will be comprised solely of English songs. This decision has sparked outrage in the online community as the Korean music industy is the biggest in all of New Caprica, whereas English language music remains underground. Sources tell us that last minute talks are being held with Lykke Li, Sia and Moby to take part in the second National Heat with fast track contracts being written up as we go to press. The Home Office has released an offical statement overnight: "New Caprica is facing one of the most difficult periods it has ever had to face - not only are we stuggling to recover from the worst recession for over 100 years but we are also struggling with a rapidly growing population and civil unrest. This is a time of great change, and we are determined that New Caprica will find it's feet safely. We need to win this contest to bring pride back to a wounded country and boost public moale. This government is not only dealing with the economy, but is also dedicated to brining New Caprica to the forefront of the global Enterntainment Industry. Winning BJSC would be a great first step. It is vital that we get this entry right and while SHINee was a great entry, and Girls' Generation provide a great selection from their extensive back catalogue, we simply have to expand into new and uncharted territory. The fact that we haven't settled for a SHINee song is a testimont to the quality and diversity we expect of the eventual victor" The Second Heat Begins It is believed that the second heat will be launched around lunctime today; the first heat, now in it's second day, is still going strong and it is looking likely that "Genie" will win it, with it now being the runaway bookies favourite. Girls' Generation are expected to make an announcement regarding the contest today in a press conference for the upcoming New Caprican leg of their world tour, as well as confirming their second single from the 'Run Devil Run' era - tickets are on sale now at K-Pop.Org. April 15, 201015 yr Just as well, all that was waiting for Ring Ding Dong was heartache next year's Most Ill-Informed entry award  I do like that mashup version of Genie, but I'm not really hearing a lot of GaGa and Britney in it  I prefer the original anyway :)
April 15, 201015 yr Ok, so i've given the tracks a listen and i'd rank them as follows: 01 || Run Devil Run - Ke$ha version 02 || Gee///Tell Me Your Wish [Genie]///Run Devil Run I'll be honest, they were a lot better than i was expecting. The Ke$ha version of Run Devil Run is possibly your best chance at doing really well, mainly because of it's part English nature and because she's a former winner. Although no single artist has won it twice and they don't tend to do as well after their win. eg Lily Allen was very nearly the exception to this, She can 2nd in VI, 1st in VIII but 14th in XIV. [if Aaron had going just one contest later I Don't Know could have taken that victory :drama:] Gee is quite poppy and catchy, RDR has some good qualities about it and the backing track to Genie is amazing. I'm honestly not sure how any of them will do, K/J-pop is quite rare in BJSC. If you do go with one of them [and they are good tracks] there is a risk you'll be joining me towards the lower end of the results :heehee:
