I agree. I still think this second chance thing is a bit of an increased hassle, for minimal change. We'll probably get three or four different finalists a month and, like you say, it might end up being less fair than the two semi thing if we don't get enough voters.

 

I actually like the idea of one big final. But it only really works if we stick to the current participation levels. A final of 40 is ok (considering we listen to our semis of about 20, the other 14 qualifiers and any AQers anyway) but, once we open the registration thread, we could end up going back up to 50. At that stage it'd get a bit too much. I suppose it's fair enough, getting an extra week, but I'm not sure how it'll work. We'd probably need to vote for more than 10 for sure.

With the current points system there are 58 Pts available (12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1) when their are up to 30 countries in the final; being voted by (say) 40 countries = average of sum(58/30)*40 = 77.33 Pts for those Finalists.

 

If we are going to open it up to a Final of 40+ I would suggest tweaking the points system to vote for a Top 12 where there are 82 Points available (15-12-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1); being voted by 40+ countries in the final = which would mean an average of 82 Points per country (as you would be dividing and multiplying by the same number of entries).

Yep, it definitely makes sense to increase amount of points available and number of voting slots for each person. I think that sounds good. We'll just have to hope we don't get back to our peak of 50 finalists if that happens. (especially with the new thread opening 'soon') Some people might just decide it's all too much, even with an extra week to vote. It doesn't matter much to me, like Rich, I usually listen to both semis anyway. (provided MP3s are on offer)

 

Obviously such a big change will require a poll of some sort, but I think it's worth discussion anyway. I'm happy to keep it as it is, but if we're bringing in ideas to keep people in 'the wrong semi' quiet, this is probably the most efficient solution.

And one more thing..if we will be starting having one big final we can just forget about the New Country Registration thread...

A modification to the points system would be needed however, and I propose - if we're going to have 40+ nations, we need to have at least a top 15, so I'd propose 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-10-12-14-16-18-20-24.

I completely agree, as I suggested in one of my posts earlier (well the voting for 15 countries part at least :P)

I like the new 24 points system :o

RTVN speak out about XXVI

 

Ricardo Delta, newly appointed spokesperson for the BJSC branch of the RTVN, has been speaking out about BJSCXXVI in Hendinia, regarding the entry selection process as well as plans for change. 'We always welcome change with open arms here in FSR Rontvia, and we think that it's great that the contest is still evolving, two and a half years after it started. As the second most successful country, we have proved that we can adapt to the changes, although the current indie boom is proving problematic and our top 3's have turned into top 15's now! We really like the one big final idea, but the 'second chance' round would also have its advantages too.' Asked what to expect from FSR Rontvia in Hendinia, Mr Delta said 'we have some great acts and songs lined up, sadly one of them is on a two way contract with Numayania and have said that they will only represent the country that pays the highest for them at auction on artist reservation opening day. Our BJSC budget is huge of course but Numayania's could be even bigger, they've had so much success and managed to host two contests in this recent recession with no financial problems.' Can you give any hints as to when it shall be opened? I've been checking every couple of hours I'm on the computer, ready to jump in their with my country name, which I already have it mind ^_^

 

I'm looking forward to some new contestants/countries! :D Excited about what kind of songs they'll bring us! :D

I know I do keep saying this, but honestly it will be done within the next few days :blush: If it hasn't been done by the time the banlist is opened, someone PM me and I'll get right on with it :lol:
