Maybe dictatorship isn't really such a bad idea :kink:

I've been saying this for TIIIME.

Could be a dead heat at this rate. Then what happens?
If it's a dead heat, the host should decide every competition to see if they would like to organise an all out final or a final with semi's or whatever :magic:

I'm not really a fan of 'let the host decide what they want'. Consistency is good. :(

Let's not forget here that basically EVERY measure we've put to poll ends up finishing with the victors just about five ahead, and despite inevitable claims every time that people will leave it never actually happens and people realise the change isn't as bad as they thought - so regardless of who wins, the measure will go ahead with full consistency.

Well the consistency has been f***ed up already tbh, with the whole points thing

We need to agree on a points system, and then like I said let the host decide, because afterall it's their contest so I'm sure they'd love to run it the way they would like. Well that's how I personally feel anyway, I'm sure it's easier said than done, but I don't see the harm in it personally. Some people like the new format, some people don't. So it's the only fair way tbh.

Agreed to be honest - otherwise it will just get a bit irritating swapping formats all the time.

On another note, I love often seeing 'Backseat' in your recently played songs thing in your sig

IMHO.

The expanded Points system works when you have the expanded number of songs to vote for.

But if we agree on ESC style Semi's & Final format; then that (old) points format should stay as you are voting between 15-20 less songs than in a straight to the Final format.

But if this vote is too close to call, then maybe the answer to alternate between the old and new formats every other contest. So the "Odd - 27, 29, 31, etc" Contests are the "old Semi's + Final + vote for the best 10 songs format; and "Even - 28, 30, 32, etc" Contests are the "new straight to the Big Final + vote for the best 15 songs format.

That way everyone will know in advance of that contest (including the host) what format is going to be used, rather than letting the host decide (and get the flack for not selecting the option half the participants prefer).

Can you come up with a better reason not to just let the host decide? You'll get what you want for the next contest and seeing as it's the host doing all the work and BOTH systems have an equal level of support so this seems the perfect compromise.

Yeah, I don't see the point in all that hassle. I don't think it pleases anyone either. The people against the big final will always moan when the host picks it and the ones against the semis will wonder why the host wants to restrict the numberof finalists. Nobody will be happy then. (business as usual I guess)

Yes, "Backseat" is one of the few BJSC songs that I haven't stopped playing once the contest finishes. I love whatever genre it is.

No

I definitely liked the idea of one big final to begin with but the two weeks for voting killed it a bit for me. I think the semis add tension and excitement to the contest.

people realise the change isn't as bad as they thought

Isn't this claim usually made when the idea hasn't actually been given a trial run? Whereas here we have had a trial run and the people voting No are voting no because they don't like the new system and not because they have a "feeling".

I honestly wouldn't mind doing the one big final in one wee but I know people would moan about 'not having enough time'.

I think switching between the two systems isn't such a great idea either, or letting the host decide. Consistency is nice.

If we're going back to semis we could increase the final, like to 34-36 entries, to satisfy both group's needs, even if not completely. :o And if people start moaning about even THAT ("Do you think i have time to listen to 5 additional entries?!?!?!? I need additional week, but i doubt i will make it anyway" Never mind the slight exaggeration :kink: ) then I have no idea what's going on with them :/

Yeah, but we know whether we like the change, because we've just spent a whole contest trying it out - so, we can have formed an opinion on whether it was good, or not. As I'm the latter, I, for one, will leave - because I know from this contest gone that is was boring...

Yes

It was great to be able to vote for everything in the last contest. On the other hand, it was a long slog getting through the songs. Overall though, I preferred it to the semis.
