Stones hit chart's Main Street

Singles

Having topped the US singles chart, Atlantic’s B.O.B. featuring Bruno Mars' Nothin' On You is now on course to do the same in the UK after more than doubling the sales at this stage of the week of its nearest rival, Warner Bros act Jason Derulo with Ridin’ Solo. Just a handful of sales behind Derulo in third place, the Syco-issued All Night Long by Alexandra Burke featuring Pitbull is enjoying a sales lift of around 70% on the week.

There are just a few weeks to go before the World Cup and this Sunday could well see the first footie song this year to make the Top 10. However, rather than being inspired by next month’s tournament in South Africa, this marks Leeds United’s promotion to the Championship. Leeds, Leeds, Leeds by Leeds United Team & Supporters, issued on the Laserdiscs label, is the seventh biggest seller at this stage of the week.

Twenty-two places lower, the World Cup does starts to make its mark on the chart with the arrival of the EMI-issued 3 Lions 2010 by The Squad, which is produced by Trevor Horn and includes Ribbie Williams and Russell Brand.

Albums

The Rolling Stones’ revamped Exile On Main Street is looking to pull off the rare feat of a catalogue title topping the UK albums chart after opening up a narrow sales lead over Faithless.

The re-issued Polydor album, which adds an additional 10 tracks to the original 1972 set, is currently around 1,600 sales ahead of the newly-issued Faithless album The Dance, with DFA/Parlophone’s LCD Soundsystem completing a top three of new entries.

If the Stones do hold on to the top spot by the end of the week, Polydor and the band would have pulled off a very rare chart achievement. Although catalogue titles have topped the singles chart on numerous occasions, it is very unusual for a catalogue release to reach number one on the albums chart outside of best of sets, although it has happened before. T Rex’s first two 1968-issued albums, Prophets, Seers And Sages The Angels Of The Ages, and My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair But Now They’re Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows, reached number one in May 1972 in a double package. Coincidently, a month after T Rex made number one, Exile On Main Street hit the top during its original release. More recently, the Traveling Wilburys' two albums were united as Collection, which reached number one in June 2007.

Behind Exile… this week, Faithless’s album is also looking to make a bit of history itself as it is being exclusively stocked physically by Tesco, setting itself up to achieve a new chart benchmark for an exclusively-sold album. The album is out on the band’s Nate’s Tunes label.

Two other new albums are presently sitting among the top 10 positions: Berlin-based rock ‘n’ roll band The Baseballs are in fifth place with the Rhino-issued Strike, while Seattle’s Band Of Horses are ranked seventh with their first Columbia album Infinite Arms.

The number of high-ranking new entries could end up sending Island act Keane’s Night Train, which debuted at one last Sunday, out of the top five. It is presently ranked in sixth position.

Its not that hard.

[05] Do not use BLOCK CAPITALS when posting a sentence its considered as shouting and rude.

[10] Finally always check you put the Loo seat down before you leave the bathroom.

I'm pretty sure Faithless have the #1 album in the bag, Kelis will be lucky to go top 10 IMHO. She's never been a big album act here, only 1 of her albums has previously made top 40

I hope LCD Soundsystem do well

And there's a lot more potential new entries than I thought there would be :o 17 new tracks in the top 100 on iTunes and only 2 (Alex single and Faithless album version) are new versions of existing tracks.

Edited by Bray

I bet album sales will be HORRIBLE. Kelis has a bad track record for albums so I doubt she'll clear 20k. Top 10 will be certain though. Keane will drop off massively and I think Faithless have it in the bag but I'm not expecting more than 30k tbh.

Alex #3!! :w00t:

Alicia Keys top 15! :D

IGF back? :o

Edited by shadow2009

Ugh, 'She Said' down to #10. :( Hoping it can stay top ten for a final week.
Position for Leeds please ? :)

Some of those look a bit odd - e.g. Alex #3 (feasible with big physical sales I suppose, but only at a stretch); Alicia #15; Keane #35, Muse #31 (didn't they only get released to iTunes @ midnight tonight?! - were/are they selling well on other sites?!); Kesha @ #36.

Maybe iTunes data missing for Monday?

I'd guess Alex is high due to physicals and pre-orders, I can't see her staying up there, especially seeing as she's not been top 10 on iTunes for the past 24 hours or so now. It should sitll hold onto top 5 though which is brilliant for her

Those mids do look iffy, , for some reason Ellie Goulding has got Live At Metropolis as the title track, should it be Guns & Horses

Anyhow have to pop out for a bit, spiidey is on the case with the albums situation.
