July 9, 201015 yr I can't believe this lot are releasing another album and single. I honestly thought they would have been dropped after the mediorce success of the 1st album. They were dropped by Simon Cowell shortly after Leon Jackson last year. Luckily another label picked them up. :)

September 2, 201014 yr Interview with Digital Spy: Retro 'X Factor': Same Difference Thursday, September 2 2010, 16:17 BST By Alex Fletcher, Reality TV Editor http://i1.cdnds.net/10/35/550w_reality_same_difference_churchill_2.jpg On The X Factor they divided opinion with their bubblegum pop and High School Musical image, but three years on from finishing third behind Rhydian and Leon, brother and sister duo Same Difference are still enjoying a successful post-reality TV career. Sean and Sarah Smith's debut record Pop went Gold and despite being dropped by Simon Cowell, they are back for a second crack at the charts with new single 'Shine On Forever (Photo Frame)' out now. We caught up with them earlier this week to chat about Auto-tune, Pop and saucy videos. So tell us about your new single. Is it out now to buy or just to download? Sarah: "Yes, it's out right now. But I'm the same as you, I don't have a Scooby Doo most of the time. They are always telling me about 'bundles', downloads and stuff like that. Gone are the days when you could just go to HMV and buy it. Bring those days back so I don't get confused by it all." Are you excited to be back on the road promoting new music? Sarah: "I'm really excited. Obviously it's a nerve-wracking time and we don't have the same X Factor, Syco machine behind us this time. But we do feel that anything we achieve this time, we've done ourselves. We feel really proud of it this time and it's looking good so far. Fingers crossed, we should be all right." Sean: "It feels like we are being ourselves this time. There is obviously apprehension and nerves with the single still, but this time it feels a bit more proper. And there isn't the same pressure of, 'get to number one or you are dropped'. The deal last time was sell millions or bust. It's a lot more relaxed this time and people are not being so judgemental. There's a lot of respect as well that we've kept going, rather than disappearing off claiming that it was over because The X Factor had ended for us." What sort of chart position are you hoping for with the track? Sarah: "We will be doing three singles and an album this time. We'd love to go Top 40 with this single, Top 20 with the second and possibly Top 10 with the third one. We know the first record back it won't be going to number one and be huge. We are starting at the bottom again and we are realistic. To get in the Top 40 we would be over the moon." The single sounds very different to your first album. Do you want to distance yourself from that record? Sarah: "We were on The X Factor three years ago, we were younger and a lot more naive. We loved what we did, but there was only so long we could do that before we got bored. So we went, 'we want to go in a studio and make songs that we are proud of'. And I think that's what we've done. It's pop music for everyone, not just kids. There's the same Same Difference element to it, but it's a lot more mature. The main thing we've got to get over is people's preconceptions that everything we do is cheesy rubbish. We have to get over that stigma and hopefully people will get to know us now as Sean and Sarah rather than the brother and sister who are always together and a bit weird." There's definitely a strong dance element to the single... Sarah: "That's one thing we really wanted to do. We've put out loads of remixes this time, which is something Simon and Syco would never do. We want people to be able to dance to it on a night out and see that it's actually really good pop music. It's not cheesy fun for kids! But we never thought in our lives that we would be in the Top 10 in the club charts. It's great that the dance community are embracing it." Do people have the wrong idea about you guys when they meet you in the street? Sarah: "On The X Factor we were the cheesiest of cheese. So when people think of Same Difference they think cheese, cheese, brother and sister, slightly odd, dancing around the stage. But when people meet us now, they see how different we are in real life. But everyone who does the show gets a stigma. Leon was the Scottish boy who cried a lot. I'm sure Alexandra is 'the girl who's a bit like Leona'. You get given something and it sticks. We had The X Factor and it was a great help - the names pulls people in to watch - but we are doing things on our own this time and hopefully people will have more respect for it." The video for the single's a lot more 'adult' that your old promos. Did you enjoy that? Sarah: "It was really fun! And it was nerve-wracking! We are used to the big smiles and the dance routines. On the first take we were jumping around and we were told, 'no you have to redo it, start again.' At the end it just felt so much more natural. But I have to confess that I was so nervous during the love scene bit. I was like, this is cringeworthy! I have to lay here with a bloke I hardly know stroking my leg. I made them close the set off so there was only the director and the cameraman. The last thing I wanted was Sean there going, 'look at you, you look like an idiot'. I had to ban my boyfriend from the set as well, because that just wouldn't be attractive to see." What can we expect from the album when it arrives? Sarah: "There's a mixture. There's some real heartfelt ballads on there. There's some dance numbers. And there's some more basic pop songs that are like the single. There's something for everyone and it's a lot more mature. It's something you'd expect The Saturdays to do rather than High School Musical. It's exciting because some of the songs we've helped write and messed about in the studio on." Sean: "We're sure about the third single. That will be a February track out around Valentine's Day. It's a real beautiful ballad that lovers will listen to. But the second one is going back and forth between us and the label. I think we're pretty much set now on what it will be, but I don't want to reveal it in case we change our minds again." Do you ever get bored talking about The X Factor? Sean: "It's always something that we are happy to talk about. We are insiders and know what happens so we are happy to talk about it. In an ideal world, we'd like to get away from it, though. Because people like Radio 1 will pre-judge us as an ex-X Factor act and will just ignore us because of that tag. I wouldn't change anything we did on The X Factor, though. We are just lucky to be back with another album, but a lot of acts from our year have given up now." Do you think a group will ever win the show? Sean: "Ooh, do you know what? I think a really good girl group needs to come out. There's a massive space for a girlband in the charts. Otherwise The Saturdays will clear up. I know Girls Can't Catch and Mini Viva didn't catch on, but I still think there's a real place for a girlband in the market right now. But then again, as we've seen down the years, girl groups tend to be the first one to go. If Simon can find a girlband I reckon they could have longevity though, because people are crying out for one. It is tougher for groups though, because it's the stories people fall in love with on that show - not the performances. When there's five of you, they don't get that same feel for you and really fall in love with you." What are your feelings about the Pop album looking back at it? Sean: "We're proud of what we're achieved with that and it went Gold. We're proud that the mogul himself Simon Cowell saw something in us and wanted to give us a record deal. That was incredible for us and we're so thankful for that. But after showing that faith in us, I don't think they really gave us everything they could. It was a punt on us more than anything else. As far as the music, it was given to us on a plate and we were told to record it in Sweden and LA. So we're not as proud of it as we are this new album, which we've been involved in every step of the way in the creative process." http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/realitybite...difference.html Edited September 2, 201014 yr by Knightr634
