February 27, 201114 yr So Codex isn't a standout? It is so beautiful. Not on their standards. How to Disappear Completely, Idioteque, The National Anthem, Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, the amazing live version of Like Spinning Plates, Nude.... Those are standouts
February 27, 201114 yr How can people allow Radiohead to get credit for things like All I Need and Idiotheque? All I Need's main hook is robbed wholesale from Boards of Canada's Roybiv and Idiotheque is basically a less impressive bast*rd cousin of Windowlicker. Neither of which I can listen to as I know there are better alternatives.
February 27, 201114 yr Idiotheque is basically a less impressive bast*rd cousin of Windowlicker. I know but it's still amazing..Both are. Thom Yorke knows how to steal without getting caught Edited February 27, 201114 yr by SKOB
February 27, 201114 yr I caught him. I'm not impressed. Codex is more pleasurable for me to listen to than either of those two.

All I Need's main hook is robbed wholesale from Boards of Canada's Roybiv and Idiotheque is basically a less impressive bast*rd cousin of Windowlicker. Neither of which I can listen to as I know there are better alternatives. Thom Yorke has never hidden the fact that a lot of Kid A was inspired by Warp Records (not just Aphex Twin). And this doesn't make it worthless as a piece of music or art. I like Idioteque and Windowlicker and will continue to do so. Suppose you don't like anything by Bowie, Primal Scream, Nirvana and a hundred others after the pilfering they've done. Radiohead should hold their hands up to roygbiv though as it seems to be more than "inspiration" for All I Need. Still prefer the Radiohead track though. EDIT: Actually it seems Radiohead used a similar synth/bass(?) sound and that is as far as the similarities go.
February 27, 201114 yr Videotape is perhaps my favourite song on In Rainbows, and one of my favourites on any of their albums, for that matter. The few I've listened to didn't really sink in though, a little difficult to get into considering they're one of the biggest bands in the world!
February 28, 201114 yr Suppose you don't like anything by Bowie, Primal Scream, Nirvana and a hundred others after the pilfering they've done. I generally don't like something if I hear a superior precursor to it.
March 1, 201114 yr Codex indeed is brilliant! I can forgive them that they had done this even better in shape of How to Disappear Completely.
March 1, 201114 yr Codex indeed is brilliant! I can forgive them that they had done this even better in shape of How to Disappear Completely. How To Disappear Completely is so eerie and yet stunning. I listened to the whole album on Youtube twice in a row, but I must do it again. I'm not quite sure what to make of it yet. I quite liked it, but maybe it will grow on me with more listens and I might be able to pick out favourite tracks and stuff then. I might buy it too sometime. Edited March 1, 201114 yr by Mattias
March 9, 201114 yr This is something I've been wrestling with for a long time now, but I feel I just have to come out and say it.... ....I really dont know if I actually like Radiohead anymore.... Now, just to contextualise this, I have been listening to this album back to back with P J Harvey's frankly astonishing record "Let England Shake", so maybe I'm letting that cloud the issue.. Or maybe it's just given me a wake-up call that I needed... Now, I've LONG defended Radiohead to the absolute hilt, I've had several heated arguments on BJ in the past concerning Radiohead, and there was a point in my life when Radiohead were everything.. I'll still love "The Bends", "OK Computer" and "Kid A", because those always will remain remarkable records and stunning examples of a band who, on their day, can best anyone in the world, and the shows of theirs that I've seen have been magical and unforgettable experiences; but I'm increasingly becoming of the opinion that Radiohead in the past decade, while making, very cool records seem to be forgetting about that spark that made them special to begin with... Yes, the albums are "cool", but I've increasingly found it hard to connect with them on any other level other than they're "cool" albums... I'm just not feeling Radiohead anymore, not being really moved by their music in the way that I was with previous albums, it just seems to me that they're a bit too aloof maybe, or just trying a bit too hard to be self-consciously "Avant Garde"... Now, P J on the other hand, doesn't seem to need to try hard, the "otherworldly", "avant garde" qualities just seem to come out of her naturally and far more organically, it just flows through her to absolutely devastating effect... I actually feel emotion listening to her, I'm not just merely thinking "hey, this is a cool album", P J can leave you in knots, make you feel like you've just had your heart ripped out and your soul torn to pieces, I feel P J Harvey in my heart and soul... I just dont feel that with Radiohead anymore, sorry guys, I just dont. These days, they just seem to be making "cool" records.... I hope people can understand this and dont flame me for finally speaking my mind....
March 9, 201114 yr Yes, the albums are "cool", but I've increasingly found it hard to connect with them on any other level other than they're "cool" albums... I'm just not feeling Radiohead anymore, not being really moved by their music in the way that I was with previous albums, it just seems to me that they're a bit too aloof maybe, or just trying a bit too hard to be self-consciously "Avant Garde" I believe this is what most people think about them these days. They have been so good that people just have to check out the new releases but the spark seems to be gone. Of course there are two or three great songs on each record but that's not enough. If Radiohead continue this path, they'll become an irrelevant indie giant at some point. They have their unique sound but it's mostly thanks to Thom Yorke's vocals and presence than the band's output as a whole.

TBH, I was more impressed by Yorke's solo record than anything Radiohead have done for the past 10 years.... He could easily make it as a solo artist, and really should just call it quits with Radiohead....

In Rainbows was such a let down and only Codex really connects with me on the new album.
