Posted July 2, 201015 yr Marco Calliari looks set to score one with his version of We No Speak Americano this week (and Yolanda Be Cool with the same song whenever that's released). There have definitely been no others this year and I don't recall there being any in 2009 either, but not sure about any earlier - what was the last song sung entirely in a non-English language to make the UK top 40?
July 2, 201015 yr I want to say O Zone in 2004 but that seems so long ago. There must've been another since?
July 2, 201015 yr Is it "Mas Que Nada" by Sergio Mendes (ft. Black Eyed Peas)? That was 2006. 24/06/2006: 29-{6}-8-14-21-29-33-39-46-62->10 Edit- The Black Eyed Peas spoilt that with loads of English didn't they. :P Damn. Edited July 2, 201015 yr by Doctor Blind
July 2, 201015 yr I think it was that O-Zone song, Dragostea Din Tei, the song that Rihanna and T.I. sampled. Well, it was certainly the last to got top 10.
July 2, 201015 yr How about "Keine Lust" by Rammstein? KrV2YpRZXRs #35 in March 2005 - I actually remember JK and Joke taking the p*ss out of it when introducing it.
July 2, 201015 yr I think its Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros which charted in 2006, it was a slow burner and eventually reached 24 after being used on a lot of programmes- it is sang entirely in Icelandic, you might know the piano line from it the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L_DQKCDgeM           Edited July 2, 201015 yr by chart wizard
July 2, 201015 yr ^^^ Oooh I loved that song. How could I forget it? :o It's possibly that one then. I can go to sleep now haha.
July 2, 201015 yr Five months later, there was another German song, except in this case it was undebatably terrible: Oe3FG4EOgyU Schnappi - Schnappi Das Kleine Krokodil, #32 in Oct 2005 Frankly it sickens me that there haven't been more...

I remember that, It actually charted! Sigur Ros charted after that though- December 2005 and then returned April 2006 I think Theos right- Its that Ukrainian entry from 2007! Edited July 2, 201015 yr by chart wizard
July 2, 201015 yr Sorry, that was meant to come after Rammstein... Wasn't there that awful Ukranian Eurovision song in 2007? Had English bits. But yeah it was probably Hoppipolla.
July 3, 201015 yr It really is disgusting of the lack of none english language music in the UK charts. I loved Moi Lolita by alizee! I think they try to hard stopping foreign language music from charting in the UK, they leave it too long after it has been a wordwide mix, and make crappy mixes which they think are to the UK's taste and they just destroy the songs or add in badly translated/badly fitting english in to the song... I remember La tortura being huge everywhere and they left it like a year to release it here, thus making it flopage.. kate ryan ella elle la added badly fitting english to it too =/ Maybe we should add a rule to make are charts more cultural having to play 1 song a week on the radio which isnt english LOL kinda like they do in france where they have to play 60%? french songs but the other way ha =]

July 3, 201015 yr WTF. I just looked up Shakira's chart runs and La Tortura was not released! What the HELL? This could well be song of the year in the UK tbf. Edited July 3, 201015 yr by Ljósið
July 3, 201015 yr I should point out that a great deal of the music in our charts is already foreign, albeit American. Believe the third part here, i.e. me, that no matter if it's english music in America or american music in the UK - it doesn't matter as long this music is in english
