Garbage - Shut Your Mouth

20 - Out

Also a mention to the Eurythmics - not a chart run, but chart placings - Apart from #7 they have peaked at every spot between #1 and #12 with only one single. Quite a rare feat i'd imagine.

#1 - There Must be an Angel

#2 - Sweet Dreams

#3 - Who's That Girl

#4 - Sexcrime

#5 - Thorn in My Side

#6 - Love is a Stranger

#8 - Here Comes the Rain Again

#9 - Sisters are doing it for themselves

#10 - Right By Your Side

# 11 - I Saved the World Today

# 12 - It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)

Oh that's an interesting thread and I have a question that always bothered me:

We have a member called 6weeksatnumber7. He had also the chart run in his sig (without artist or song title though), but can't find it anymore, he hasn't posted for a while.

Can anyone remember which song spent 6 weeks at number 7?

Surely one of these guys with databases could do a search

Eat dirt Shakira.....

We've had some weird charts runs recently

TiK ToK -

6 - 6 - 7 -7 -7 - 5 - 11 - 10 - 4 (peaking 9 weeks after it debuted at #6 ) and then it started going down in two's (12 - 14 - 16 - 18) before then spending three weeks at #38. :o (although not consecutive)

Starstrukk -

5 - 5 - 6 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 7 - 6 - 10

She Said -

3 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 3 - 3 - 6 - 8

The annoying thing is, though, is that these songs have massive sales but suffer lower peaks than the awful songs usually above them.

And this chart run is incredible...

Rockferry (album)

1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 4 - 4 - 3 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 4 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 3 - 7 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 7 - 10 - 10 :o

I believe the chart run of The Verve's Urban Hymns album has it at 22 consecutive weeks in the Top 3. I could be wrong.

I can solve the 6 weeks at Number 7 mystery! I messaged him almost two years ago about it and he had this to say:

It's invented to match the username .... but don't give away the secret

He doesn't seem to post here anymore so hope it's ok to have said this!

I find songs spent some time within 71-75 positions charming as well. I wonder if there are any that any of you remember? :o

Keri Hilson's 'I Like' has a very weird chart run too.

It only peaked at around #34 but spent 5/6 weeks in the top 40 consecutively. I think that's pretty impressive.

I'd like to see the chart-run for Lonestar's Amazed as well. It is the biggest-selling single never to reach the top 20. :o

Lonestar "Amazed" (2000)

24-23-30-36-32-30-28-26-{21}-23-22-22-21-26-30-35-37-42-51-57-64-73

...and at the opposite end:

Shut Up And Dance "Raving I'm Raving" (1992)

{2}-15

^I think it was deleted because of complaints about the sample used in it.

Lonestar "Amazed" (2000)

24-23-30-36-32-30-28-26-{21}-23-22-22-21-26-30-35-37-42-51-57-64-73

Thanks. :D

I think that's a pretty solid chart run for a song never to peak higher than #21. And let's remember that it was released prior to the download era.

I like Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' chart-run-wise:

73 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 5 - 9...

Very strange how it didn't get to #1 since it "debuted" at #3 two weeks before physical release in 2007.

One of those rare occasions where a HUGE #2 was kept off by something even bigger, kind of like what happened with Natalie Imbruglia's 'Torn'.

I'll revisit this topic with some chart runs later on. :P

7 Seconds by Youssou N'Dour and Neneh Cherry was another slow grower

40-35-36-26-24-24-18-11-8-4-4-3-7-9-14-25-35-37-47-64-74-68-60-54-66

A peak of number 3 in week 12.

Altogether, or consecutive?

consecutive as far as I remember

I can solve the 6 weeks at Number 7 mystery! I messaged him almost two years ago about it and he had this to say:

He doesn't seem to post here anymore so hope it's ok to have said this!

Oh that must be the solution! (If he told really the truth) Thanks Rob :D

They may have already be mentioned but these songs all fell one spot to every position in the top 5:

Dickie Valentine - "Finger Of Suspicion" (1954)

[1-2-3-4-5-5-4-9-17]

Tommy Edwards - "It's All In The Game" (1958)

[1-2-3-4-5-4-8-11-15-27]

Michael Jackson - "You Are Not Alone" (1995)

[1-2-3-4-5-7-9-13-25-30-31]

Eminem - "The Real Slim Shady" (2000)

[1-2-3-4-5-7-8-10-11-15-23-33-38]

These songs all went 1-4-8-16, so they halved their position each week:

Chicago - "If You Leave Me Now" (1976)

Ian & The Blockheads - "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" (1978)

Abba - "The Winner Takes It All" (1980)

Wet Wet Wet - "Love Is All Around" (1994)

And this, well see for yourself

Johnnie Ray - "Such A Night" (1954)

1-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-3-7-7-9-10-12

also these singles all had 'symmetrical' runs:

Gloria Estefan - "Get On Your Feet" (1989)

34-23-23-34

The Beloved - "The Sun Rising" (1989)

37-26-26-37

Re-Flex - "The Politics Of Dancing" (1984)

34-28-28-34

Eric Clapton - "Wonderful Tonight (live)" (1991)

35-30-30-35

Oh and heres the full run for Frank Sinatras 'My Way'

50-43-23-17-16-9-6-6-{5}-5-7-7-21-20-27-28-31-43-26-41-50-33-40-33-38-39-35-45-38-31-42-44-48-49-49-48-46-49-42-42-37-50-49R(2)-

just 7 of its 122 weeks were spent in the top 10

heres quite an odd one as well, Frankie Laine I Believe

11-8-4-{1}-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-2-2-3-2-2-4-6-5-7-4-6-10->

you werent really sure whether it was coming or going

One really recent one that springs to mind is Gettin' Over You although it sort of ruined itself this week

1 - 4 - 7 - 10 - 13 - 16 - (18).

There was that awful deletion rule in 2006 which meant singles would disappear, however high they were up the charts. Most notable would be these two #1 singles that vanished from out of the Top 10, both re-entering the Top 40 when the rule was amended.

01-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-05-OUT-30-51-49-54-66-OUT-66-67-OUT [Gnarls Barkley - Crazy]

I didn't pay attention to the charts as much in 2006, so can someone tell me what this deletion rule was? :o
