Fly Yellow Moon' by Fyfe Dangerfield

I believe when he released this album after the first single, it entered at number 60. When it was known he covered billy joel's 'shes always a woman' the album was repackaged and peaked at number 12

The last act to have 2 albums in the top 5, if anyone's intyerested (and if anyone doesn't remember as this wasn't long ago) was Lady GaGa - The Remix #3, The Fame #4
White Ladder reached #1 in its 66th consecutive chart week, a chart record. In addition no other album in chart history has sold as many copies (1,520,000) prior to first reaching #1.

Another album that took a long time to reach #1 was Tyrannosaurus Rex's "My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows" - it was released originally in July 1968 and peaked at #9, but was re-released as a double album with "Prophets Seers And Sages The Angels Of The Ages" in April 1972 and went to #1.

This doesn't break David's record though obviously, as a) it didn't reach #1 in its original format and b) the weeks before it got to #1 were not consecutive on the chart.

Like A Virgin by Madonna. Started out so low, but with each single released it kept getting higher. When she released 'Angel' it finally peaked at number 1
The album also benefited from having Into The Groove added to the album as a bonus track a few weeks earlier. LAV may be the first album to go to number one after being repackaged during the middle of its chart run. The week before ITG was added the album was at #17, it then jumped to #2 after being repackaged, spent a further 4 weeks at #2 before finally reaching #1 in the same week that Angel entered the chart at #10.

as somebody has pointed, shakira´s Oral Fixation was a flop before Hips don´t lie. Also, Elton John´s Sleeping with the past didn´t do that well until Sacrifice was released as a single related to an aids campaign

Ok, i´ve just read that somebody has posted elton John´s case too...what about Craig david´s The story goes???? with the second single, a ballad but I don´t remember the name...the album kept the sales

and Lenny Kravitz´s 5 album, I don´t know if we can call it a flop , but before Fly away was released, it wasn´t a huge success preciselly

a few weeks later? LAV was released in november 84, and the re-release with ITG was released in september 85.The album already had two top-3 singles before ITG

I guess we could count the first Sugababes album 'One Touch' too. It was released 2.5 months after 'Overload' and 3 weeks before 'New Year' and didn't even get top-75 initially (it has debuted at #77). But then with the help of 'New Year' it has started to make some progress and got top-40. Later 'Run for Cover' was released and it got to its peak of #26. Its sales are more than 220k now.

But I'm not sure that the singles actually 'saved' the album as of course in the current climate 220k sales are very healthy especially for the new artists but back then they were dropped from London Records after 'Sould Sound' flop and not good enough sales. It was a veeeery stupid decision for London Records though but they couldn't obviously see the future.

Wet Wet Wet's High On The Happy Side had two flop singles Put A Light On & Make It Tonight the LP flopping but after the release of Goodnight Girl the LP was re-released and went straight to No1.

I was going to suggest One Touch despite it not having amazing success. The Brit nomination for Overload helped as well as the three sublime singles.

Noisettes' Wild Young Hearts

Initially peaked at 7 and plummetted, but 'Never Forget You brought it some longevity at the top end of the charts (it also brought it back into the top 10 for a week IIRC)

You could argue it was more the TV commercials that helped the album come back to life

Some people are coming up with dumb examples. MOST albums fall down/off the chart after the first single and re-enter later on. Shouldn't this be about albums which flopped from the outset and only did well after the 2nd single?

Editors - The Back Room [2005]

13-36-47-54-62-75 [Out of Top 100 for 14 weeks] -39-18-3-2-4-9......

*Recovered after the 5th single a re-release of 'Munich' went Top 10.

Let Loose - Let Loose [1994]

33-57 [Out of Top 100 for 8 weeks] -52-27-31-24-30-58 [Out of Top 100 for 4 weeks] -48-45-20....

*Peaked after release of 7th single 'Best In Me' went Top 10 in 1995.

Usually things that have just happened tend to be forgotten more easily :P

Oleta Adams debut album Circle Of One only managed number 49 when first released of the back of the first single. However it was saved by Get Here and rentered the charts at Number 1 10 months later

I think Fergies Big Girls don't cry did a lot for the album but i don't think it really flopped before that did it?

Just checked, it did here prior to that. With the first single it debuted at #27 and spent 2 weeks in the top 75, then with 'Glamorous' re-entered at #28 and dropped out again sharply, 'Big Girls Don't Cry' got it a new peak and some stability.

That's a good example.
