The U.K-based teen pop outfit the Saturdays formed in 2007 under the auspices of Polydor's Fascination Records. The five-piece girl group sports an accessible, melodic electro-pop sound tailored for pop radio, not to mention eye-catching good looks. In 2008 their debut single, "If This Is Love," hit number eight on the U.K. charts, only to be surpassed by "Up," which made it to number five, and "Issues" which reached number four. Their full-length studio album, CHASING LIGHTS, appeared in late 2008, followed soon after by a cover of the Depeche Mode synth-pop classic, "Just Can't Get Enough." With Spice Girls-inspired colour-coordinated outfits and distinct musical personalities, the Saturdays instantly captured the attention of the U.K. media, appearing on several television shows including the drama HOLLYOAKS LATER and the children's show ROSS LEE'S GHOULIES. - HMV

I think that and 24/7 probably helped it. They seem to be more popular this era in general than their last anyway.

Seriously sick of this lame Ne-Yo song where the chorus consists of 'I don't mind' repeated over and over. His new single 'One In A Million' is just as dire too ... shame, I used to really like him but he's gone downhill this era imo.
You're overdramatic, Tom. :P

I think THIS is an example when the release should be handled into only one week instead of spreading its sales throughout several weeks before a proper release.

If Stromae was released last week:

1. Radio 1 would've A-listed it because it wouldn't see that it was semi-flopping;

2. It would've got higher peak and caught much more media attention which would lead to much healthier follow-up sales.

All this song basically needed is the top-10 iTunes effect...

I'm not so sure...I have a horrible feeling that had it been held back it might have started crawling up iTunes and perhaps only got to #17 or 18 in the end. Higher than it has gone of course but I don't think it would have made a huge difference. A massively popular song will always get up there somehow. Of course the top ten effect helps though, but I question whether it would have ever gotten there.

I think the Saturdays are rising their profile again. This whole 'Headlines' era has really recovered them from 'Wordshaker' flop. And 'Higher' is going to be massive, probably their biggest hit yet.
Wow, Pepper and Piano really holding up well, I hope they beat Emma's Imagination! Nobody else has got a shot I wouldn't have thought, it's definitely a two horse race. Would love to see You Took My Heart 'do a Boyzone' i.e. rebound from outside the top 20 back into the top 10 thanks to TV exposure!

Wait, I'm confused - what's #22?

EDIT: Okay, def. Eliza.

Happy to see The Saturdays climbing back up, hopefully 'Missing You' can stick around a bit longer. ^_^

MID CHART HOTSHOT!

The return of the Hotshot! It is now back as a mid-chart feature. This week we have Alexis Jordan - Happiness. This sounds a bit like Ann Lee - 2 Times crossed with a bit of Fragma and is enjoying heavy rotation on the music channels.

Out 11 October 2010

Any opinions? A future top 5 at least I think!

I absolutely ADORE 'Happiness'. I think everyone else seems to hate it for some reason though ... :(

This is great. I literally just heard it today for the first time whilst shopping and Dre told me what it was after I told him some of the lyrics I remembered! I can't see it being a hit at all though sadly :( Maybe top 75, but it's lack of airplay anywhere will really hurt it.

But 'Hot' and 'Stereo Love' became huge hits regardless their late release. 'Hot' stayed in the top-10 for 5 weeks and 'Stereo Love' was in the top-40 until this week. I think it's very important for the new artists to handle releases, build up the hype and only after release the song. Only then they will be able to "spread" the release putting it for download early.

P&P aren't #22, that appears to have been a mistake :P #22 is Eliza - Pack Up
