Since when have I criticised all of your decisions? I was merely asking!

Like I say, headache, bit touchy today! I do apologomise.

Shania, along with another 5 or 6 forums, is in the "we will axe them but at the moment they seem a bit active" pile.

You people are ridiculous, it's not about who they are, it's about the amount of discussion there is, whats the point in having the forum without any discussion, it's a waste of space on the buzzjack servers, in most cases our AF's are just $h!te version of other forums for these artists, i think the only artist who doesnt have a more active and better forum elsewhere on the net is Darius.

I expect you would like to pay the server bill that Phil pays for out of his own pocket and doesnt make it all back on the advertising on this site? and all the time he puts into the making buzzjack work.

Mr ridiculous here

this is how I understand things to be:

to get more revenue from advertising you need to demonstrate you are reaching a larger/bigger/wider/diverse/targeted audience. Then you can charge the advertisers more.

For this to happen BJ needs to attract more members and guests. Having AFs for major artists I believe is a small but significant step in that direction, it helps attract guests and if they like what they see they sign up and join in. This is the point I was trying to convey in my earlier post (obviously not very well !!).

If all we get left with is GaGa and Britney forums (because thats who seems to be the main focus of so many BJ members) then guests will have a look and likely decide it's not for them (except GaGa loons :P )

I know its never quite this black and white or so simple and BJ has lots of other features that attract members but the AFs are one of the things that attract people (I for one, as I found answers here on the Shakira forum which I couldn't elsewhere... and joined up !!)

well after having most these AF's for what like 4 years now? they have failed to bring in many members to the site, you go try making an internet forum as big as Buzzjack with all these AF's and see if that is successful, it doesnt really attract guests unless the AF in question is a fairly significant one (i.e comes up high when you search say 'Britney Spears Forum' on google), because in almost every case a bigger and better forum for this artist will a;ready exist and have the topics in questions that brings in the guests.

if AF's bring in a large/bigger/wider/diverse audience then why have we not seen evidence in 4 years of them doing this?

And also most the AF's are of female artists who are fairly similar, yes that gives us a more large/diverse audience :/

good for yo finding what you were looking for in the Shakira forum, but you are one person, and that is one forum.

how long shall we have AF's open for to bring in this larger audience you speak of? about 4 years maybe? oh...

If you google 'Sugababes Forums' Buzzjack is the 3rd hit behind two hits of the old official site.

and we are the 4th highest ranked Delta Goodrem forum ^_^ So much for unused and not high enough up to bring in the hits

Wow really :o There used to be TONS of Delta forums circa 2003-2004, I guess they've all died out now, apart from our one and the official one.

Hits = good. Are we getting members though? Usage of Delta forum would indicate = no. Shame :(

Like i said, give me and Rich the reigns and a month.

We only posted in it, we didn't know it needed saved :drama:

I did say in the task rules you could resurrect it in ANY WAY you wanted!

On the general argument in this thread, I wholeheartedly back up everything Chris and Andre have said. It's all very well AF members moaning that there are going to be axes, but it's a bit rich. If you were making good use of them to begin with, then you wouldn't be in this situation, no?

The whole "it attracts guests" argument is nonsense. If it hasn't done that in 4 years, what would be the point of allowing them to just sit there festering away unused. If anything, they're actually BAD advertising for the site. Who is going to join a site which has thousands of forums that get posted in about once every six months?

I dont get all the arguing against the decision. Its gonna happen anyway and im pleased. There is no need to have all of these forums that noone uses. Just keep the ones that people actually contribute too.
Plus, getting rid of this many will mean a renaissance for the genre forums - and, ironically, lead to more posting on the artist, as people tend not to be bothered enough to go out of their way to visit a forum, but will talk about it in a genre forum. Hence why forums should only be for artists that utterly dominate discussion in their respective genres - Lady Gaga, The Saturdays, etc.

I'm with you on this definitely. There are a number of artists I like, but I don't visit their forums (Alicia, Anasatacia, Sophie E-B, Snow Patrol, Coldplay to name a few). I'm much more likely to contribute to a general Snow Patrol discussion thread in Indie, then I am to go into their forum and play a Rate The Snow Patrol B-Sides game or whatever.

In general 'it attracts guests' is, as you say nonsense. Good forums, run well however are a different story.

I was only defending the Alicia Keys forum (not any of the others) which is very new, in its infancy and still growing up so the axe seems (to me) a bit premature and harsh. give it a chance and revisit in 6 months ? It has not been that quiet.

I fully agree with you, there is nothing worse than old stories and out of date info. perhaps posters to the forums should make more of an effort to remove old posts (if they have the rights to ? or should the AF Mods ?)

In my experience, and God knows I have a lot of experience with these things, if a forum isn't a massive success in the first few weeks that's pretty much IT. If the people that voted for it can't be arsed to use it when it first arrives when the artist has an album and singles being released, then there is almost no hope for it in the future. That might sound harsh but it is true!

Very, very true. I noticed that some of the Artists whose forums are due to be archived had new albums out soon, so they can be discussed in the genre forums (which, bar the pop forum, are sometimes left without posts for at least 24 hours). This could be a great move for the site as a whole

As a relatively new member, just though I'd give my input, is it possible to move the Artist forums to under their respective genre forum in the "Your Music" section. It just seems a bit inconsistent in the current format. I see topics in the pop forum for certain artists but then some have their own forums. It can be confusing for new users. I think they would be more easily discoverable if they were listed as sub-forums there instead of the current system.

Edit: Just read the previous posts :$

They are as visible as they can be tbh - in fact I think having AFS as a separate area makes them more visable rather than being tucked away in genre forums. Plus, some artists cross genres.
