I think the two Gaga songs, Usher, B.O.B & Katy Perry will be the only ones. Even though 'Fireflies' managed 3 weeks, I cant see it beeing remember tbh.

I think:

California Gurls

Airplanes

Love The Way You Lie

OMG

Fireflies

Dynamite

We No Speak Americano

Rude Boy

Bad Romance

Not all #1s there but they're clearly the biggest international hits from 2010. I agree with Hitstastic that Tinie Tempah etc are pretty much of the moment and whilst 'Pass Out' will possibly be remembered I don't think anybody outside hardcore chart fans will remember anything else by him... Telephone, I think will be remembered more for the video than the actual song and the rest of those #1s are pretty lame.

As for 2000 I think the following are bonafide classics:

Pure Shores [whoever said no is silly as this is always played on radio and used on TV and is still extremely popular]

Never Be The Same Again

Groovjet

Rock DJ

Stan

Can't Fight The Moonlight

Ooops! I Did It Again

Most remembered...oh and the boldy thing! :P

Bold = Super-Classic.

I think only Bad Romance and Fireflies even stand a REMOTE chance of being Super-Classics... With Bad Romance being the only truely likely one of 2010. By Super-Classic, i mean a track that is played to death by the radio even now (or 2020 in this years' songs cases! :P)

Of the non 2000 #1's, the track I hear the most from that year still, by a country mile bizarrely is Shackles (Praise You) by Mary Mary

Spinning Around a "super-classic"? REALLY? It's flimsy generic gay pop at best, and everywhere beyond Heart FM, it remains totally overshadowed by the behemoth that was Can't Get You Out Of My Head (which loathe as I am to admit it, really IS a super-classic). Certainly I don't think it's any more remembered that the other handbag house hits from that year (Don't Call Me Baby or Lady).

Of the non-number ones;

2010 - I reckon Empire State Of Mind Part II and possibly She Said stand a chance of holding long-term appeal. Oh, and Love The Way You Lie obviously!

For 2000 - I'd say the likes of Trouble, Yellow, Reach, I'm Outta Love and Silence to name a few are probably better remembered than many of the number ones from that year. I haven't heard Shackles for AEONS, even though it was inescapable at the time.

Of the non 2000 #1's, the track I hear the most from that year still, by a country mile bizarrely is Shackles (Praise You) by Mary Mary

Really? I've hardly ever heard 'Shackles' even though I liked that song at the time. For me I'd say it's 'All The Small Things' by Blink 182 that I've heard the most over the years out of all those UK #2 hits from 2000.

Top 10 UK Airplay of the 2000s

What Will Be Remembered...

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

From 2000, I remember Eminem's 2 songs and Modjo the best.......the others I remember a little...

From 2010, I think Tinie Tempah, Lady Gaga, Yolanda be Cool, Flo Rida and Usher's songs will be remembered.....when it comes to no.2s Eminem will be remembered for a long time...

I think some of the 2000 songs will be remembered as classics but not necessarily as number 1s - 'Stan' for instance. And Bob the Builder might be remembered for being number 1, but not for what the actual song goes like.

Surprised more people don't remember Madison Avenue - it was pretty massive, I'd certainly rank it as one of the big dance #1s of 2000 (like Fragma, Spiller and Modjo) and not like, say, Black Legend, which isn't exactly high-profile. Thought Sonique would be bigger but you never hear it these days, S Club 7's 'Reach' on the other hand is still a cheesy classic and presumably far better known now.

To be honest I love lots of those 2000 number 1s (don't even mind Westlife's Fool Again) but lots are forgettable by the general public. Though not as many as 2001: Five, Blue x2, a few by Westlife, two forgotten Robbie #1s, Emma Bunton (which is actually quite good...)

I'd say 'true classics' are U2, Spiller, Robbie, Britney's Oops, and to a lesser extent Fragma, Ronan, Destiny's Child, Modjo and Craig David (perhaps more for his 7 Days sexploits)

From this year, only Pass Out and Americano. Maybe 'Airplanes' and 'California Gurls' (the equivalent of 'Spinning Around' ?) Telephone isn't Gaga's best and is famous for the video. Usher's OMG isn't as big (or as good) as Yeah IMO and will probably fade like Burn. Owl City: flash in the pan, could be famous like Deep Blue Something though. Possibly Taio Cruz, though I doubt #1s by him or Tinchy Stryder will be well-known in 2020.

From this year, I think the following will definitely be remembered:

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Usher feat. will.i.am - OMG *1*

Roll Deep - Good Times *3*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Also notable mentions to Love the Way You Lie and Empire State of Mind.

Bad Romance will be remembered because it's going to retain soli airplay for the next 10 years, easily. Telephone will be remembered for the video. California Gurls will be remembered as it's one of the best summer songs of recent times, so it'll be getting popular every summer for a few years.

I'm not sure why OMG will be remembered, I just know it will be. Good Times will be remembered because it's the ultimate party song from this year. We No Speak Americano will definitely be remembered by people of my age, because it's the song that got played every half an hour when all the A-Level students went abroad after their exams. The song will remind them of one of the best times of their lives, so even if it's not getting a lot of airplay in a few years, it'll still be remembered.

Empire State of Mind will be remembered mainly for the sheer amount of airplay its received. It's just everywhere, and so difficult to ignore, so I think it will also be difficult to forget, and stations like Heart don't seem to be thinking of stopping playing the song any time soon. Love the Way You Lie and Airplanes will be remembered because they're just good songs tbh.

As most other people have noted, Pass Out will clearly be well-remembered in a decade's time. I don't think the song is that good, but it's quite clear that a lot of people will possible never forget the song. I don't think I'll "forget" it, but I probably won't listen to it once its airplay declines.

As someone who doesn't listen much to chart music, maybe that makes me a more objective person to judge this? Clearly if I've heard of the song, then it'll have staying power...in which case, I regret to say, only two songs from 2010 stick out in my mind:

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

Owl City - Fireflies

Perhaps 'Telephone' at a push. The rest, I'm sorry to say, are utter balls and will be remembered as such.

Not many from this year I think, and far less than 2009.

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1* (100% definite...although as someone said, it's technically a 2009 song :P)

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2* (This will be one of those "OMG, I haven't heard this in YEARS" songs, and get all the 40 year olds dancing in 2030)

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1* (Will become a dance classic, and feature on a zillion compilation albums)

...and you know, I think that's it  Tracks like California Gurls and OMG will I think be overshadowed by slightly bigger hits (I Kissed A Girl/Hot & Cold for Katy Perry, Yeah for Usher). It's like all the 1980s acts who had loads of hits, but you only ever hear the one - 'Tainted Love' for Soft Cell, 'Come On Eileen' for Dexy's Midnight Runners, etc!

From 2000, these still seem to get played:

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Ronan Keating - Life is a Rollercoaster *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

While we're at it, though...I'd forgotten how quite awesome 'Day & Night' by Billie Piper is! It's one of the few she did that aren't really cheesy listening back now, it's really catchy. Definitely one of the forgotten #1s of 2000 though.

I'm a big music fan but have become dis-illusioned by chart music, so I think I'm in a perfect place to judge what tracks will be remembered.

Looking at the number 1's this year - those that I have heard and remembered (without seeking out are)

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

I've heard a few of the others, but most mean nothing to me

But there's a couple of memorable 2010 songs which they refuse to play on Heart FM.

Bad Romance, California Gurls and We Speak No Americano will go down as modern day classics. X-Factor related song will be forgotten by next year at the latest. So many bad #1 this year.

So which songs will go down as classics and be remembered and what will be forgotten?

IMO, this year's had some really forgettable number ones.

Remember this isn't for you to post your favourite number ones, it's for you to post memorable number ones this year.
