Disaster for Joe, mid-low top ten is looking possible here :o

This does basically prove that despite everyone's 'X Factor dominates the #1 spot completely' moaning, a lot of X Factor performance's are purely well timed, and although they help songs out - they can't lift a non-starter into being a huge hit (see Mariah and Shakira from last year). The likes of Bleeding Love, Bad Boys and Fight For This Love would have been monster hits anyway, X Factor just helped their cause along somewhat.

You can't make a monster hit if airplay isn't good. Support from radio 1 & or the major commercials still is the most important factor in a hit single. Of course an X Factor performance on top of that is the icing on the cake.

Of course, I completely agree with you. And those three songs that I used as examples all had massive airplay, which Joe hasn't got - not even from commercial radio surprisingly :o

But the way some people go on every year on here, it's almost like a song destined for #100 can be turned into a huge #1 based solely on an X Factor performance. This clearly isn't the case - obviously some songs have been given a helping hand. Ambitions now, and then Meet Me Halfway last year probably would only have been a #2 without X Factor, but the fact is, that the latter was already a huge hit - and most of the monster #1's which were performed on X Factor on the week of release, would have been #1 anyway - Fight For This Love rocketed up to iTunes #1 last year a good few hours before her X Factor performance. Songs which have no public interest whatsoever still won't be much of a hit, no matter what TV support they get - Janet Jackson barely scraped into the top 75 with the song she performed on there last year

Even if X Factor ceased to exist, I think the Oct-Dec #1's list every year would be barely changed from what it would have been otherwise. Too much emphasis is placed on its value to turn a flop into a hit, it just makes big hits into bigger ones and maybe gives some songs destined for top 20 a boost into the top 10, but it can't turn a potential #40 into a #1!

Back to #3 for Joe - like someone said before - it must have been an itunes error when it slipped back
Finally new (not repeated from the past) update, and Joe is #2 now. I think this update is from like 3-4 AM today.
Cee Lo Green will be #1 tomorrow for a second week, Joe has left it too late, he be lucky to be #2 or #3 tomorrow. Looking at iTunes Bruno Mars could be ahead of him

I agree! Bad Boys was #1 on iTunes by 11am Sunday morning so Alex would have been #1 even without the X-Factor performance

It's a hard one to judge Ambitions against Bad Boys and Bleeding Love - mainly because the other two were hammered to death by TV and Radio weeks before its release.

Ambitions only made its radio debut 3 weeks on Wednesday and the video 2 weeks ago - it hasn't had as long to seep into the public's brain and the majority of people wouldn't have even realised that there was a single out until watching X Factor last night.

I fear the same is going to happen for Diana Vickers next week - I've only just seen the video for My Wicked Heart and thats having to search for it on youtube, I'm not sure if its even been sent to radio yet - but it has a fantastic video and I love the song. It's download is this Sunday coming and its cd release is 1st November

It was so obvious that Joe mimed last night, certainly in some parts any way. Not that it really matters, what matters is that it's a rubbish song in the first place.

I thought pixie would do a little better.

Ambitions cant be judged against Bleeding Love and Bad Boys because as sung by Joe it is a far inferior song, with a terrible video.I do not think it would have made the slightest bit of difference if commercial radio had hammered it out.It has both R1 and R2 support and Joe has done a radio tour.Even if it had had the video out 10 weeks in advance if the song is luke warm the reaction will be luke warm.Syco could have come up with an original song that suited Joes voice not sure why he did not get that.

And I remember the inital reaction to both Bleeding Love and Bad Boys to be lukewarm - (though I loved them both instantly and defending both tracks on forums like this one and Popjustice) it took a couple of weeks to take hold before everybody loved them.

I don't agree. If Alexandra's next single was to fail to make the top 50 airplay chart it won't be a big hit. I've really liked her first few songs but her last single in my opinion is worse than Ambitions & I ain't a fan of that either.

Can't argue with your final sentence though.

As I posted earlier radio support from radio 1 & the big commercials is what makes a big hit single.

 Wont Joe sell alot of physicals though he could still be number 1 I hope he isnt 1 billion % though.
Joe may not be number 1 on I-tunes but I bet his physicals are high to get him there.

I guess it depends on how many he sells - Kylie is arguebly the strongest seller for cd singles nowadays with 12,000 physical sales for All the Lovers and 5,000 for Get Out of My Way in their first week. I can see Joe selling between 4-6,000 on physical cds and I guess it just depends how close sales are this week

Obviously Joe isn't going to be getting a number 1 now, but why is everyone being so quick to judge and deem him as a flop? i'd rather wait to see sales and see the longevity of a track before I personally class something "a flop". It's just underperforming slightly at the moment. But I think if he sells enough that he could have been number 1 most other weeks and manages to stay in the top 40 for about 8 weeks, I don't think people deserve to class it as a flop...

EDIT:Oh and I'd obviously like to see how his album does too

I agree with the Kylie statement but all X-Factor acts on there first single after X-Factor norm have great physicals.

I bet lots of have been downloaded from X factor website 2. Although I think after hearing this Phys sales info Joe could miss the top 3
