I'm also hoping that 'Invincible' goes top 10 with 'Who's That Chick' staying :) I think 'Invincible' will get to around #15 officially this week, and by Sunday it will be in the top 10 on iTunes, then fall out again and chart at #11/#12 the week after. -_-

I really hope Rihanna is No 1 next week, I really did not think she would come back this strong after the Chris Brown mess but she has had an amazing year.I think she has done equally well in America and her tour is selling well to.

 

I'm not saying it's a good thing that Chris Brown attacked her, but it did get her a lot of promotion. Like at the time, it was all over the news and everything, plus, she probably wouldn't have been chosen for Love the Way You Lie if she didn't have the history with domestic violence.

But I hope she get's #1 too. It's amazing that she sold over 100,000 in a week, and climbed to that amount of sales. The only other songs I can think of that have done that in recent times are Just the Way You Are and Meet Me Halfway. It's truly incredible to sell that much in a week, particularly when you've not held back the release for 2 months to get loads of people rushing to buy it in the same week (like California Gurls, Only Girl, etc.).

You speak the truth, when the news leaked I remember people who had not had much interest in Rihanna were suddenly hugely interested.It seems a sad off shoot of celebrity that it gave her a huge spotlight.She behaved so well though and showed so much dignity unlike Chris Brown which was a big plus for her.

Plus she was the only saving grace for the X-factor Saturday which was dire, her performance of Whats My Name was stunning.

Not just that, the entire 'Good Girl Gone Bad' era?

Rihanna's career took off this era because she's released extremly catchy and unique songs which make her stand out on Radio. Also her unique image benefits her too, there just isnt anyone out there like her now and doing what she is doing, she's brilliant.

I think it s safe to assume the 'gift card effect' will hugley help rihanna as she is the singles artist of the moment. add to that people getting gift cards are generally younger which is what her music is aimed towards. obviously older songs will get a boost but if you had to pick 1 song or 1 artist to get a boost from it with a new-ish song it would in my mind be rihanna and whats my name.

Agree with all the Rihanna comments, she was getting more and more popular even during the 'A Girl Like Me' era. It was definitely the release of 'Good Girl Gone Bad' that saw Rihanna hit the popstar jackpot. She's grown in popularity and even as a live singer.

02 - Only Girl (In The World)

 

It'd be the first time since Madonna in 1985 that an artist has held the top 2 positions in the UK. It probably won't happen but the iTunes gift card effect can be an interesting one.

LOL, surely if anything it damaged her commercially for a while, as it led to her making Rated R, an album completely different to what anybody expected from her - and thus while it didn't flop it didn't sell anywhere near as well as some might have expected after the success of GGGB. Although it was very popular with critics (at least for a mainstream pop album) and tings and really showed some depth to her so I don't think it was a bad thing apart from that.

 

Loud's huge success is simply because she returned to the kind of music people love from her - out and out pop with a tinge of urban mixed in, plus she's added some more dancier elements this time around. When she's like this she's by far the most relevant popstar of today with broad genre appeal... although you could perhaps argue that if she had never left this kind of music (i.e. Rated R never happened) then it wouldn't have been met with such big commercial success.

Completely agree with you both. Didn't 'Rated R' come out the year she got "attacked" and although the album sold, very well (500k+ - maybe 600know can't remember), she never had any real success, which matched GGGB's era. This era seems to be matching GGGB so far and I'm really pleased for her! She truly deserves it.

 

Oh and Bray, you're taking this whole "iTunes gift card picking" all too seriously :lol: I see where you're coming from in the fact songs like, Em & Ri, Owl City, Tinie Tempah etc... benefitting, but isn't that because of all the "End of Year" and "Best of 2010" countdowns that happen at that time? (Not just on the radio either, countdowns like that get a lot of TV airplay too!)

I really want the TT 'The Flood' to go away now, it's only being lofted up by numerous promotion slots and is really getting on my nerves, especially when it's keeping out other songs which have done well to get where they are, (Invincible, Christmas Lights) I've posted the name of that song so many times today! :lol:

Chris Brown's Forever album was brilliant, did well. After attacking rihanna his music carrear went downhill, neither benifted as both have fans.
