May 16, 201114 yr I can't believe that back in February I sat in my flat in the horrors watching Jedward winning Eurosong, and now I'm actually happy for them. I've always liked them as people, but I did doubt their ability to do well and I'm glad to be proven wrong. This result is great for us and I really hope we can keep it up. I don't necessarily want Ireland to win just yet but a few more Top 10 results would be fantastic. Why people here are disappointed with 8th is beyond me. Probably because whatever I think of them, it's pretty obvious that they should have finished higher, likewise Blue. Greece and Ukraine to name but two seem like completely pointless top ten finishers, I can't say I've encountered many people anywhere that really enjoyed either of these  And nobody's buying them anywhere either to prove that! I hate the big post-contest hits not getting the results they deserve in the contest. 8th for Gina G in 1996 stands out as the most ridiculous example of this ever, it's a defining 90s classic, not just Eurovision wise but in general!
May 16, 201114 yr I've really been enjoying Ukraine a lot more since the performance, same with Georgia (& Ireland too). Greece & Moldova are the songs where I think 'people can't honestly like them?'. After re-listening to Italy, I see something in it, but not something that equals as high as 2nd.

I know what you mean about Italy, I do try and really look for the good in songs that finished top 5 post-contest that I haven't liked before. Ukraine I still find pedestrian to be honest, it certainly wasn't the best female ballad, nowhere near it. I can see why people avoided the Disney of Austria and Lithuania but Slovenia had a better song and vocal imo, I found Mika Newton a little screechy. Italy really isn't my style, I like contemporary pop-jazz like Caro Emerald which adds a modern edge but this song really isn't doing much for me. However, I CAN see its audience and why a lot of people liked it. Moldova got the joke vote and Greece would have been fine without that terrible rapper. Finland were laughed off the stage for doing the same thing in 2009 so I don't see why Greece got away with it. The biggest post-contest growers for me are Popular (it was already in my top 5 of the year, it didn't have scope to grow too much more but I somehow love it more than ever!), Running Scared, Caroban, In Love For A While, and I'll say it quietly so nobody hears; Lipstick :drama:

I agree. We will never know but I often wonder had televoting been around in 1996, could Gina G have won in 1996? She must have had one of, if the biggest Eurovision hits of the decade so it still feels unjust it only reached 8th
May 16, 201114 yr I've been listening to Ukraine LOADS since Saturday. It's actually a pretty decent song, and the gimmick in the performance added a lot to it.
May 17, 201114 yr Probably because whatever I think of them, it's pretty obvious that they should have finished higher, likewise Blue. I agree. I'm pretty confident that we could have had a Sweden-Ireland-UK battle if it was just televote. :( I guess I can't complain because I wanted the juries back in, so I'll just have to live with it. :P The split results are usually released in June, I think, so we'll see then! ^_^ Irish ratings for the final were the highest on 15 years. :o Overall, the Final was watched by 2,244,600 viewers. HALF of the country!
May 17, 201114 yr The ratings for Ireland were monstrous, that is one hell of an audience and im sure rte are very happy with it, eurovision always gets great ratings in ireland but this year is just something else.
May 18, 201114 yr Author The X Factor duo have climbed to the top of numerous iTunes charts all over Europe this week, but their main success has been in Sweden where their track 'Lipstick' has managed to shift over 120,000 copies. The feat makes the song the fastest-selling single in Sweden so far this year. Source: Digital Spy
May 18, 201114 yr Wow great sales for them in sweden, im interested to see how much lipstick will sell in total accross the whole of europe by the time it stops selling.
May 18, 201114 yr Reckon they may have added an extra zero there? The average Swedish #1 single has been established to sell 2k - 5k a week, going up to 8k around Melodifestivalen time. 12k would give them the fastest seller of the year, 120k is completely out of the bounds of reality, conisdering it's already fallen from #1 on iTunes  Sweden have a population of 9 million so that would be the equivalent of a song shifting about 850k in 4 days in the UK - what is it, the new Candle In The Wind?

Excellent result for them either way! Would not have predicted that a few months ago!! Edited May 18, 201114 yr by Pop B!tch
May 19, 201114 yr Ya either way Jedward have done well and i think they will be one act were doing eurovision and losing wont do their career any damage.
May 20, 201114 yr Jedward debut at #18 on the official Swedish charts... http://www.sverigetopplistan.se/ Fastest seller of the year indeed  Will no doubt climb next week though, but wherever Digital Spy learnt that it sold 120k in one week I don't know... In other news, their new #1 is amazing :cheer:
May 23, 201114 yr has a food/cooking show on RTÉ. I'm wathcing it now and a song just came on and was I like "I know that song from somewhere...". Got My Heart In Your Pocket by Anna Bergendahl. I wonder if he'll have anymore Eurovision-related songs on his other episodes? Might have to keep watching to find out. :heehee: EDIT: Completely forgot he was in Industry as well. Sure gets around! :P Edited May 23, 201114 yr by Cal
May 24, 201114 yr Lol. I watched Jedward's press conference thingy today for the first time, it was so funny and slightly uncomfortable to watch. The other people had serious WTF faces going on. And why did Jedward go on about their pets at the end? That seemed random, although knowing Jedward, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
May 25, 201114 yr Jedward have already expressed a return to eurovision and i have a funnt feeling they will represent Ireland again next year.
May 26, 201114 yr My dad said yesterday that Crystal Swing want to enter Eurovision now. Please no. Give me Jedward any day. :puke2: For those unaware, this is a sample of their kind of music: nyl7D8L_-Tk Well it's just Derek, but it should defintely give you a vibe.... Edited May 26, 201114 yr by Sabrewulf
May 26, 201114 yr At least Jedward were fun and entertaining. Crystal Swing are just plain shit. They're like a group that would play at your wacky grandmother's funeral in some bog in the Midlands or something. Just NO. Lipstick has caught on a lot here. I've heard it in a few shops in the past couple of days. :heehee:
May 27, 201114 yr I hate crystal swing but i wouldnt be surprised if they go to eurovision as they have a big following, i wont make comment though becuase when i heard jedward were entering eurovision i was like if they go through ireland will be disgraced on the night and look how wrong i was. You know im still shocked how well jedward have done and i also think jedward will be one of the few acts in recent years to hugely benefit from entering eurovision and not winning.
May 27, 201114 yr Eurovision impact is still working for jedward as they have stayed number 1 again in Ireland this week.
