Commercial success isn't the be-all and end-all of whether a band is 'good' or not.

Totally agree.

:o Jessie nearly #1!

If she makes it, she'll only be there for a couple of hours though... :( :drama:

If R2 has a much bigger audience then R1 then how can R1 get just about anything top 40 but R2 can't (exceptions are Enrique Iglesias (ILI, HB), Rumer "Slow) ?? A good thing anyway I don't like radio 2

At least she can say it peaked at #1 on iTunes, i dont think it'll be a couple of hours, it'll probably be till Grenade is added and climbs its way up to #1 which is inevitable.

JLS - Eyes Wide Shut #32! The beat to it really reminds me a lot of another song, i know its quite a common club beat but i'm trying to think what song it reminds me of..

Tinie Tempah's bit is sooo small

I like it though. One Shot > Love You More > Eyes Wide Shut >>>>>> Beat Again >x100000 Club is Alive and Everybody in Love.

Should be a top 10 hit at the very least. Top 5?

Saw the video twice this morning. They've tried to recreate the Swedish House Mafia sound. Doesn't matter which track as 'One' and 'Miami 2 Ibiza' are so identical bar the chord structure. In fact, it wasn't that bad. Far better than that mess they classed as 'The Club Is Alive'.

Eurgh at that top 5! The only one I like there is Matt Cardle!

Eyes Wide Shut sounds more like Roll Deep than Swedish House Mafia to me (apart from the Tinie rap's, which both consist largely of letter of the alphabet.).

Everyone also says Eyes Wide Shut sounds like I'm Not Alone by Calvin Harris (which by extension would mean it sounds like Chris Brown's new song too).

I, however, think it also sounds like this song:

And all the songs mentioned in this post are absolutely incredible.

What kind of music do you like/listen to?

Pop/Dance/Rock/Easy-listening, even some classical.

Really? You seem to label most of the pop/dance from the last year as 'urban' just because it's done by a black person...

Perhaps, but on iTunes you only have this list to choose from. I think iTunes need to change the way they classify songs by genres.

Alternative Rap

What on earth is alternative rap anyway?

If R2 has a much bigger audience then R1 then how can R1 get just about anything top 40 but R2 can't (exceptions are Enrique Iglesias (ILI, HB), Rumer "Slow) ?? A good thing anyway I don't like radio 2

It's all about target audience. Radio 2's target audience tends to purchase albums rather than singles, which is why Radio 2 playlisting tends to do barely anything for single success, whereas 13-25 tend to download a lot more...

Think he was being sarcastic :P.

Vidcapper really is a broken record.

You do realise that records went out with the 80's? :P

A broken download doesn't really work, so how about a broken CD?

Surely it's not that difficult to work out? Going on the rock principle (where, for example, Journey and mainstream and R.E.M. are alternative), alternative rap is acts like B.o.B and Drake who offer something different from what has been the rap establishment up until recently.

What on earth is alternative rap anyway?

I didn't really know myself, even, but I've looked it up, and:

Alternative Rap refers to hip-hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, funk, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres, drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk. Though Arrested Development and the Fugees managed to cross over into the mainstream, most alternative rap groups are embraced primarily by alternative rock fans, not hip-hop or pop audiences.

Or maybe just annoying as f***...

I wouldn't mind having urban #1's as much, if only artists like Katie Meula or Dido would also have #1's now & then...

They have always been album artists though - except now they're not even that, they've had their moment. If you paid attention to 'urban' and who made it rather than just dismissing it at will, you'd notice there are trends there as well.

JLS already up to 32 :o

This definately seems to be going the same way One Shot did, but hopefully it will have more momentum and continue climbing rather than falling once it reaches #5

Jessie J is so close! I really want her to climb to #1, as much as I love What's My Name! She needs to get there soon as Bruno will probabaly climb to #1 tomorrow.
