February 2, 201114 yr Shame...There are couple of exceptions but generally all the best songs by Jack White are on WS albums.
February 2, 201114 yr thats a real shame- they were a really great duo and made some fantastic songs, although it doesn't surprise me after how quiet they've become
February 2, 201114 yr Didn't see this coming at all! :o Was hoping for new material from them. The side projects just aren't the same.
February 2, 201114 yr Didn't see this coming at all! :o Was hoping for new material from them. The side projects just aren't the same. It was heavily mentioned that their return album would be this year. Sigh.
February 2, 201114 yr I liked them and all, but the last album was pretty lame and maybe they have dried up creatively... in which case it's respectable that they did this.
February 2, 201114 yr I dunno if I'm sad or not. Obviously Jack White wouldn't believe he has dried up creatively after all the stuff outside the Stripes that he has done (tho I'm not that keen on The Dead Weather.) Maybe he just enjoys this other stuff more at the mo. (I do like the tracks I've heard off the Wanda jackson album he's just produced) Bet they get back together in about 5 years time.
February 2, 201114 yr Not a huge fan, but when I saw the headline on DS, it was a real open mouth shock moment! :o
February 2, 201114 yr It's a pity, the White Stripes were one of my favourite bands at one point. It must've been hard being in a band with your ex-wife. Some of the songs I'll remember them for are 'Ball and Biscuit,' 'Fell in Love With a Girl,' 'Hypnotize,' 'Hotel Yorba,' 'The Hardest Button to Button' and of course, '7 Nation Army' I'm hoping for two compilation albums in the future - a Greatest Hits album and a B-side collection (for which the White Stripes have many fantastic tracks)
February 2, 201114 yr I'm really okay with this actually, they have had some great moments but they all feel like a long time ago now. Better to accept that you have no motivation for a new project with them rather than taint the legacy with endless poor albums.
February 2, 201114 yr Never been a massive fan but 7 Nation Army is a great song and their version of I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself is one of the best covers of a Dusty Springfield song.
February 3, 201114 yr 4cYJqCtDRTk my favorite by them, so killer i do understand / respect the decision tho, and icky thump was a pile o poo. but i still can't help but feel nostaligic. the white stripes were easily my favorite band late middle school / early high school and they've had such a huge impact on my aesthetic in music / interest in music in general. much luv.
February 3, 201114 yr I'm not too bothered - they had some great singles, Blue Orchid and Fell in Love with a Girl being my faves.
February 3, 201114 yr My faves are I can tell were are going to be friends, black math, hotel yorba, 7 nation army, passive manipulation and the stunning Blue Orchid.
February 3, 201114 yr I must echo some of the comments though... Get Behind Me Satan was GENIUS and their creative peak by a mile, although Elephant was their most concrete anthemic sort of album. Icky Thump was a bit... off by their standards, although to others standards it would be a great album!
February 3, 201114 yr TBH, this is probably for the best. They'll never do a better album than "Elephant" or "Get Behind Me Satan", so it's good to know that they're one band who saw that they were past their creative peak and decided the spare their fans a long, slow, depressing downward spiral of disappointment.... Here's hoping that Interpol have the sense to do the same after their extremely dull and disappointing record of last year....
February 3, 201114 yr Can't say I'm bothered. They had their moments but haven't cared about them in years
