i was wondering why JLS only release 3 singles, is it because of high album sales or not enough single material? :) i havent bought any of their albums so wouldn't know :L

three singles per album is an effective marketing strategy- especially when two are released before the album, that will guarantee two high selling singles and one that won't do as well- but they would still be popular so would have some pretty good success

three is a magic number as they say, and it is imo just right- not too much or too little and practically guarantees an artist three pretty big to decent hits (if their popualr enough of course) Overkill isn't always wise, and JLS are being managed quite well atm with the 'three' strategy

Does anyone think Jessie J could end up back at no. 1 on iTunes at some point this week as the pop bars for 'Born This Way' have significantly decreased in the last 24 hours.

the grammies will offer a (small) boost on Wednesday, so she'll just about keep it this week- although if they don't promote it over here, then it will eventually fall

I heard both 'Closer' and 'Show Me Love' yesterday on Capital :D

Oh. Well that makes my crying a bit more embarrassing then.

I never really hear them play anything that's not in the top 100 in the charts, or not a future release tbh. Can't say I'm disappointed I didn't hear Closer though! I'd probably cry if I heard that too, but for a different reason...

Bruno down to #6 :o

JLS up to #5 :)

They should peak higher than One Shot then...

They were both in the same hour! About 2-3pm when I was doing school work.

I'm glad. I really like it.

Really? :o I listen to Capital like all the time! Well, not really. I flick through radio stations until I hear a song that I like, so I usually end up on Capital. Just basically whatever radio station isn't playing Forget You, The Flood or Just the Way You Are. :drama: I'd like to say "Nobody will remember these songs in 10 years time", but the sad thing is, we all probably will, because radio will NEVER stop playing them (except Capital, mostly ).

Eyes wide shut might go number #03 !! Alan Carr tonight. This morning really has helped it.

She hasn't decreased very much at all in the past 24 hours...

 Lady Gaga's popularity bar has decreased quite significantly since I last looked! Hopefully Jessie will overtake by Sunday. ^_^

^ Woah! :o So the highest first week digital sales in the US of all-time are now:

1. Right Round

2. Boom Boom Pow

3. Low

4. Born This Way

:o

Does anybody know what the whole top 10 is? It was posted here before, I think. Looking at that list, the US have much better taste in music than the UK, and it's interesting that it's not full of charity songs, reality TV covers, etc.

However, it's not really much of a surprise that Gaga will debut at #1 though, tbh. She's going to join that list of artists in the US that will debut at #1 on Billboard, no matter what, with no promotion, along with Britney Spears, etc.

How exactly did "Low" sell that much on its first week, wasn't it Flo's first single, so he wasn't much of a name back then. Yes it featured T-Pain but a song can't sell that much on T-Pain's name alone?

I think they made a mistake, I'm sure that must be Crack A Bottle...

That sounds more right, anything with Eminem & Dre on it is guaranteed a high debut, not to mention 50 Cent which used to be huge in the US

I don't know. I got it from the article that was posted:

The biggest start for a track overall belongs to Flo Rida's "Right Round," which started with 636,000 in February 2009. In second place: the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" (465,000); and, third: Flo Rida's "Low" (460,000).

It does seem weird though. It'd be like Happiness by Alexis Jordan selling 200,000 in its first week here, with no promotion.

Boom Boom Pow seems weird aswell, since it was after a long hiatus for the Black Eyed Peas, and they were not as big pre-Boom Boom Pow as they are now.

I can understand Right Round though. Definitely one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard. I can understand people going in their hundreds of thousands to buy the song asap. I remember when I heard it for the first time, I couldn't stop for ages.

I'm pretty sure Crack a Bottle is high up too, actually. Before anyone says "I Need a Doctor", Crack a Bottle was like a massively anticipated comeback. I'm pretty sure Not Afraid is in the top 10 aswell.

I think Live Your Life is there too, because Americans have taste in music, both T.I. and Rihanna were MASSIVE there at the time (well, Rihanna is massive there all the time ), and similar to Right Round, it's one of those songs where you only have to hear it once, to want to listen to it again and again. Songs like Low and Boom Boom Pow, amazing as they are, are more growers, tbh.

I wonder what the highest digital tally is that wasn't also #1 on BBH100?

Possibly Taylor Swift's Today Was A Fairytale? Or Miley's Party In The U.S.A.?

Do you mean in one particular week, or overall? If it's one particular week, then I think Love the Way You Lie. I remember it had one of the highest first-week sales of all time (which, considering it was a post-album song, and not even announced as the 2nd single at the time is amazing, again, that's like if Someone Like You by Adele went and sold 150,000 in the first week when she released her album, except Love the Way You Lie had not been performed on TV either).

If you mean overall, then perhaps Party in the USA.

There were loads of MASSIVE #2s though last year, which will've sold loads. Dynamite, Bad Romance, Airplanes, Hey Soul Sister or Need You Now (:puke:), perhaps?

Actually it may be I Gotta Feeling now I think about it - LTWYL could also be a contender.

I know Party In The U.S.A. has the record for most weeks at #1 on Hot Digital Songs without getting #1 on the BBH100

Party in the USA only sold due to the Jay-Z and Britney fans buying it, I suspect. :kink:

Seriously though, that really should've been a #1. Not only because it is a fantastic pop song, but also simply because it's so popular!! Really unfortunate for it tbh. :(

Yeah, perhaps I Gotta Feeling. I suspect it could've had to sell a lot, because Boom Boom Pow was #1 at the time, and I guess was pretty unstoppable in both sales and airplay!

I think it could be Love the Way You Lie. I think it was at #2 behind California Gurls and Teenage Dream? The weeks California Gurls was #1, LTWYL could've sold a lot and not got #1. Not to mention, Love the Way You Lie was essentially just some random album track at the time, so radio stations wouldn't have been asked to play it yet (although I'm sure some of the urban stations would've played it a little bit).

The album version of EWS has fallen a few places today, at 39 currently.

Fair play to their promo people though, they have got some nice publicity for the week.

The midweeks around Thursday time will be interesting as demand will start to slow down not only for JLS but for GaGa..she isnt too far ahead of Jessie J at the moment
