Firstly, because some songs first chart, and we don't know when they'll be released, or whether they'll be released at all. When it first charted, there was no way of knowing it'd be released in now (although it was quite obvious, to be fair).

There's something about our charts that makes it harder for buzz singles to do brilliantly straight off, and the quick-ish turnover at the top end makes it harder still for them to climb back up again.
