March 20, 201114 yr What were the #4s? It was pretty good for every position clearly :D I think it was one of the last years of true variety to be honest. I remember these: Shola Ama - You Might Need Somebody DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima Eternal - Angel Of Mine Janet Jackson - Together Again Smoke City - Underwater Love Rosie Gaines - Closer Than Close Ultra Nate - Free All Saints - I Know Where It's At 97-02 was my favorite period for music.
March 20, 201114 yr The only problem with that is things would get more and more unknown the further you moved down. Some people struggled to come up with 10 songs they knew even with the #1s, and those are generally more well known songs than the #2s, #3s, #4s etc. Also, it would take a long time, so maybe two different people can run the 90s and 00s one at the same time? I don't think that would be too confusing... I think it was done at one point some years ago though. It all depends since there are several classics that peak in those positions. I guess 90s and 00s could be done at the same time, would definitely be faster.
March 20, 201114 yr They could always be done like I did the 00s #1s last year. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106112
March 20, 201114 yr 15 Blur ‘Beetlebum’ 12 Olive ‘You’re Not Alone’ 10 The Chemical Brothers ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’ 8. The Verve ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ 6 Tori Amos ‘Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big)’ 5 White Town ‘Your Woman’ 4 Hanson ‘Mmm Bop’ 3 Teletubbies ‘Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh!’ 2 Oasis ‘D’You Know What I Mean?’ 1 Aqua ‘Barbie Girl’ -2 R Kelly ‘I Believe I Can Fly’
March 20, 201114 yr They could always be done like I did the 00s #1s last year. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106112 I dont think there are enough #2s, #3s..., to do it by heats. A ranking would probably be the best bet. The problem will be getting the complete UK charts archive to figure out all the songs that peaked at a certain position
March 20, 201114 yr I remember these: Shola Ama - You Might Need Somebody DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima Eternal - Angel Of Mine Janet Jackson - Together Again Smoke City - Underwater Love Rosie Gaines - Closer Than Close Ultra Nate - Free All Saints - I Know Where It's At 97-02 was my favorite period for music. Thanks! That's a great list, too - You Might Need Somebody, Angel of Mine, Together Again, Closer Than Close, Free  They could always be done like I did the 00s #1s last year. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106112 It would definitely be faster. But I quite like doing each year one-by-one, as it allows it to look at each year more broken down, invokes more discussion about each year, etc. Putting them all together kinda takes away that in some form. I'd say it gives a better overall picture, too, and usually ensures people can at least get a chance to give points to most songs they love on at least one occasion, whereas in a big one like that isn't necessarily the case. But then I'm a bit of a geek, anyway  I guess it's up to whatever the most popular opinion is. I dont think there are enough #2s, #3s..., to do it by heats. A ranking would probably be the best bet. The problem will be getting the complete UK charts archive to figure out all the songs that peaked at a certain position There's a list of #2s and #3s on this site (in the Chart Vault) so those two positions wouldn't be a problem. Not sure about lower than that, though - someone would probably have to go looking through the charts to get them.

March 20, 201114 yr Oasis :o 299 is amazing - I doubt we'll get any more 300s (maybe 1 or 2) as there are far more #1s in the remaining years than from 90-95. I wouldn't be surprised if 150 is enough to get some through - certainly for 1999 (unless the number of voters rockets!) 15 Olive ‘You’re Not Alone’ 12 No Doubt ‘Don’t Speak’ 10 The Verve ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ 08 White Town ‘Your Woman’ 06 Various Artists ‘Perfect Day’ Best CIN song 05 The Chemical Brothers ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’ 04 Blur ‘Beetlebum’ 03 Eternal feat. Not sure about lower than that, though - someone would probably have to go looking through the charts to get them. I'm actually over halfway through compiling a list of Number 4's at the moment, but I am using slightly different criteria to the 2s and 3s list, primarily if a record got to 1/2/3 in a different run to it getting to no. 4, I've excluded it. E.g. Elvis Presley's "The Wonder Of You" made no. 4 on re-release in April 2005, but I've not included it as to me it is a number one record from 1970. -- Richard
March 20, 201114 yr Oh, and talking of injustice, Chumbawamba's Tubthumping was kept off #1 by Men In Black - FOR 3 WEEKS! -_- What about Ultravox's Vienna being denied #1 by Shaddup Your Face?
March 20, 201114 yr No chart injustice will ever match Better Off Alone succumbing by 498 copies to Westlife's If I Let You Go :nocheer: Shame the shops used to close at 5pm on Saturday's (so were effectively the chart shut off point), Alice Deejay would have easily closed the deficit with an extra 7 hours (taking into account Westlife's front loadedness and the way that dance songs climb at the weekend). That said, Set You Free losing out to Think Twice and Cotton Eye Joe wasn't the best thing ever either...but I wasn't listening to the charts back when that happened so it didn't bother me as much
March 20, 201114 yr +15 Tori Amos - Professional Widow (often mistaken for "he's gotta big dick". Joke aside, this is one of the most groundbreaking house/dance tracks ever!) +12 Olive - You're Not Alone (like the above, it took a second attempt to get to the very top!) +10 Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin Beats +8 White Town - Your Woman +6 Spice Girls - Who Do You Think You Are (but NOT Mama!) +5 Eternal - I Wanna Be The Only One +4 The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work +3 No Doubt - Don't Speak +2 Spice Girls - Spice Up Your Life +1 LL Cool J - Ain't Nobody (pointless and forgettable cover, but not as offensive as the others...) -2 R Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly :puke2: (very tempted to go for Oasis, but this just pips the sado Gallagher Brothers for puke factor!)
