Solange - I Decided

:(

I'll go one better and raise you 'Sandcastle Disco'! That really should have been her breakthrough smash imo. 'I Decided' was a great buzz track though.

Ones that spring to mind are:

VV Brown 'Shark In The Water' <---- What on Earth happened here? It had Massive summer top 5 hit written across it. Radio 1 playlisted, but went in at a very disappointing #34 and lasted a whopping, 5 weeks Top 75 :nocheer:

Lady Sovereign 'So Human' <---- WTF? Pretty much like the above, it had decent Radio 1 airplay/playlisted and support, but went to spend 2 weeks top 40 (both at #38) and just 4 weeks top 75!!

Keri Hilson (Anything other than 'Knock You Down' which was a big hit!) <---- Biased, maybe. But some/most of her releases deserved better! (Notably 'Pretty Girl Rock' & 'Energy'!)

The King Blues 'Headbutt' <---- Deserved top 40, at LEAST. Was pleased to see it on Radio 1's playlist, but it managed to limp into the top 75 at #72. Disgusting, for such a good track!

Ashley Tisdale 'It's Alright, It's OK' <---- Should have gone Top 40 at the very least. Wasn't expecting much, considering it's Ashley Tisdale, but I thought it'd go Top 40 at least! :(

Beverly Knight 'Beautiful Night' <---- Such a beautiful, slow tempo RnB ballad. Very contemporary. I thought it'd go top 20/30 at least. How wrong was I?

Ciara featuring. Missy Elliott 'Work' <---- UGH. So much better than the decent 'Love, Sex, Magic'! How did this flop at an abysmal #52??

Fugative 'Crush' & 'Bad Girl' <---- He's basically a white Chipmunk, these sounded like massive hits to me, but they flopped, horribly.

Also, anything by FrankMusik! Particularly '3 Little Words'!

There are also a couple I wanted to mention but weren't from 2009... Little Jackie 'The World Should Revolve Around Me', Artists Stand up to Cancer 'Stand Up' (The best charity single of all time, imo), OneRepublic 'Say (All I Need)' So many more!!

Eva Simons - Silly Boy has to be the ultimate one. I thought it would be a HUGE number 1 hit - but nope, it peaked at a paltry 149  It didn't have terrible airplay tbh, really can't see why it flopped so hard! :(

Not true at all, I didn't even so much as hear of that track outside of the internet. It had no support whatsoever.

Also agreeing with Jonjo on 'Sandcastle Disco', 'I Decided' was an average track but 'Sandcastle Disco' truly was something else with a genius video. Also Ciara's 'Work', although Radio 1 for some bizarre reason chose not to playlist it after 'Love Sex Magic's success.

Kaci - Crazy Possessive

Inna - 10 Minutes

Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk (although Surveillance was a bigger crime!)

Shakira - Waka Waka

Edward Maya - This Is My Life

Gathania - Blame It On You

Keri Hilson - Energy and I Like

Owl City - Umbrella Beach

and a billion more I can't think of right now

But that was never released as a single here, was it?

Usher/ More this should have charted higher

Britney Spears/ Radar

The Fray/ You Found Me

MGMT/ Time To Pretend

James Morrison/ Please Don't Stop The Rain

Bat For Lashes/ Daniel

Green Day/ Know Your Enemy

Kelly Clarkson/ I Do Not Hook Up

Friendly Fires/ Jump In The Pool

Lenka/ The Show

Starpilots/ In The Heat Of The Night

Beyonce/ Diva

The Saturdays/ Work

But that was never released as a single here, was it?

Whether a song is officially released as a single is irrelevant nowadays, though...

A predictable response from me but it wouldn't hurt Radio and the music channels to support the Eurovision winner every now and then. I see no reason as to why Alexander Rybak's Fairytale and Lena's Satellite couldn't have been FAR bigger hits here than the flash in the pan wonders that they ultimately were :( Other countries play ESC songs post-contest just like any other songs, and they result in big chart hits in the continent - Jessy Matador's Allez Ola Ole is another that could have been big here with continued support, it managed to do quite well on iTunes here (top 40?) just off the back of the ESC performance and it could have been a big summer hit.

Agree with Dre on Waka Waka too, #21 was a horrible peak here for what was easily the biggest hit of the year across much of the world. But I don't recall EVER hearing it on the radio :/

Obviously I'd have loved Believe Again to be a big smash here but it's had zero exposure in the UK. A song needs some sort of push to get it into the charts, be it a TV show, an advert, a performance, or a single release whatever...but it can't get off the ground with nothing at all.

The Saturdays - Work

Was a resonable hit out-selling their debut which sold more than 100k. The fact that their management pushed this as a '#1' record across their website and twitter (etc) yet landed it at #22, an embaressement.

Whether a song is officially released as a single is irrelevant nowadays, though...
but it wasn't released now? It was on an album, about 4/5 years ago...

Ed Drewett - Champagne Lemonade

Katie Melua - The Flood

Sabrina, Marina, Kate Nash and VV Brown should have had hits last year and with so much crap getting to No 1 it is beyond me. How Lissie and When I'm Alone did not go Top 10 is a travesty, best song of 2010.

Was it really that long ago - it only seems like a couple of years to me?

In any case, the 'since 2009' in the thread title seems a little too restrictive...

Empire of the Sun - "Walking on A Dream" - a lovely song, radio would have latched on to it - if the singers voice wasn't so awful.

Goldfrapp - "Alive" and "Believer" - Shame she is considered too old to get any radio/video support. Not even top 200.

Eliza Doolittle - "Rollerblades", "Skinny Genes" and "Mr Medicine" - What happened with these? They are great songs, played constantly by the radio.

Diana Vickers - "The Boy Who Murdered Love" - really, really good. Coming from a fantastic album with so many potential hits, but radio and video channels won't catch on for some reason. "My Wicked Heart" could have done so well. It is so sad to see all her potential.

Mini Viva - "I Wish" - Did not hear the follow up. This song was fantastic, lower top 100 is shocking for something so good.

Ellie Goulding - Everything apart from "Your Song" and "Starry Eyed" - all catchy, lovely songs, yet they failed to sell even 100k :(.

Cheryl Cole - "The Flood" - If only it had been promoted more, and not been overshadowed by the Christmas rush. this is one of the best songs ever. The fact that it was only 18 is a travesty. Still, it did sell over 100k.

And also Wonderland.

The problem seems to be mainly with individual artists, rather than individual songs. As I said before, it is sad to see all these possible big hits (and artists) failing to meet their potential.
