  • Taylor already No 46 on the list.

Yes, top 5 sales were insane on that week.

I'm guessing the week of 30/12/2000 is the biggest sales week that the albums chart has ever seen.

31/12/2005 beat that week by around 200,000 when 10.5 million albums were sold.

Can we have a list for just pure sales figures? ie no streaming included

Actually as Adele didn't put her album (25) on streaming until well after it would have affected the weeks over 200k, the only ones it would affect are Ed Sheeran ,Coldplay, and Taylor.

2 16/03/2017 Divide Ed Sheeran 671,542 would get reduced to 592,598

12 16/10/2025 The Life Of A Showgirl Taylor Swift 423,444 gets reduced to 339,375

48 23/03/2017 Divide Ed Sheeran 303,520 gets reduced to 345,240

69 02/05/2024 Tortured Poets Department Taylor Swift 270,091 gets reduced to 191,184

76 02/12/2021 30 Adele 261,856- no breakdown of sales given on this week

102 17/10/2024 Moon Music Coldplay 236,796 reduced to 230,151

105 17/12/2015 A Head Full Of Dreams Coldplay 235,975 is reduced to 234,116

156 30/03/2017 Divide Ed Sheeran 206,411 reduced to 165,246

157 03/11/2022 Midnights Taylor Swift 204,501 reduced to 146,537

158 18/11/2021 Voyage ABBA 203,909 no breakdown given

Pretty sure Westlife also hold the record for the highest weekly sales for a single that never made #1 too!

I looked into this. It shipped 250k and sold 180k as reported at the time. It's like the 750k for band aid and Wham's "last Christmas" 500k which is still quoted now but we now know are shipment figures.

Source: record mirror 17/11/84.

This is what Alan Jones said today.

It also surpasses anything in the era (1983-1994) of previous chart compilers Gallup – Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s debut album Welcome To The Pleasuredome shipped 1.1m copies ahead of its 1984 release (700,000 vinyl, 400,000 cassettes) but dealer anticipation far outstripped actual demand, with only 180,000 sales being realised across the two formats on debut.

ABBA definitely was available to stream!

Nothing is getting onto this list without shifting a lot of pure sales, the realistic ceiling for streaming sales in a week seems to be well under 100k barring any changes in how it's calculated.

Will be interesting to see if any ever does over 100k streaming sales especially with Taylor just setting the record of 84k
