I had a feeling it would be low compared to their older albums.

That's at least partially due to album sales plummetting in general though.

Gezza, don't forget to update this when we get Coldplay's exact figure :P We know it's higher than Adele anyway as MW are saying it's the second highest first week sale of the year behind Gaga.

Those be here now sales by oasis... Still amazes me, even more ao coz they were sales for just 3 bloody days!!
Coldplay now one of only five acts to have 4+ albums sell over 200k in a week then (as per Gary's list in post 2).

That is bloody terrifying, "Morning Glory" had a monster first week but "Be Here Now" beat it IN A DAY. Unbelievable. Had it been given a full week we can guess it would have sold over 800k (given its second week sales were 235k, so the first four days of that week were probably almost 150k) which would put even further out on its own. I honestly think that record will never be broken, certainly not when downloads are so prevalent.

Yeah, but everyone queued to buy that album on its first day of release:

Even Pete Doherty:

I have got a certificate from HMV:

I was there then

The holder of this certificate is the proud owner of the long awaited Oasis album 'Be Here Now' purchased from HMV on the first day of release: 21st August 1997.

Certificate number 18753

Does anyone know the weekly sales for the Spice Girls "Spiceworld" ?

Im amazed that they never had sales over 200,000 for this album considering how huge they were.

The last 7 weeks of 1997 they did 191,856 (debut), 91k- 69k-77k- 121k-124k-186k :D

That's a pretty lacklustre début actually given how big "Spice" was.

Aah but the backlash had started by that point!

Buble added- can he make the top 10 after this week's sales?

Spiceworld was very close to be fair!!!

Hardly no female singers or girl groups on that list!

Buble makes the top 30 and Amy slips into the top 120 of all time!

HOW DARE Bublé knock The Prodigy down a place!

(By the way, Amy should have an asterisk :P)

Time to resurrect this little beauty- for the next 5 weeks anyway (then it can be filed away for another 11 months)!

Who's-a-making-the list this year??

I'm guessing Bruno Mars is in for a chance for first week sales of 200k+ since it will chart the week before Christmas. Would be nice if Olly could do it too, but I'm not sure. Maybe Michael Buble?
