CNN is all over the coverage at the moment. Apparently he was in Pakistan and shot by US soldiers. This could cause some diplomatic problems between the two countries, given that Pakistan have denied having Osama all this time.

Of course his killing will only by symbolic rather than a real end to the conflicts in the Middle East. It will probably guarantee Obama a 2nd term.

nice one FOX. blatently on purpose.

Seriously though, this is a momment in history. And a momment for Obama who declared during the election that they will kill Osama, which constrasts Bush who failed to do so, Obama just got his second term for sure. I don't agree with Obama saying that "justice has been done", in the end that's one man killed to thousands of Americans. As someone already said, this is symbolic, rather than the end to conflicts (which is what it feels like), but is of course still a real win.

I find it very strange how they have already buried him at sea. The worlds most wanted man, being persued for a decade, and they bury him the same night they kill and take the body, without any photos being released to the media.

not to be too cliche but very easy to pull the 'fake' card out.

I think the funniest thing about this is that FOX News spelt his name Usama Bin Laden.

Seriously though, if it's true (which I am debating) then obviously it's a win for the world, but it doesn't qualify all these americans partying at Ground Zero. Taking one life does not equate to thousands. And it's not really going to stop Al Qaeda either.

They spelt it like that on the FBI's website. Yep I was browsing.

One of the foreign news channels showed a picture of him with a bullet in his head and it's also on the Internet (not for the faint hearted).

Assuming it's true, this is obviously far more symbolic than anything else but the positive feeling this will get in the US can only be a good thing - like everyone said, it near enough guarantees Obama a second term. Although it'll mean little for Al Qaeda in terms of actual organisation, it'll still be demoralising for them.
I also feel slightly sorry for Henry Cooper, it's like Mother Teresa/Farah Fawcett all over again

"UK Foreign office: UK Nationals should exercise caution in all public places and avoid large crowds and public events"

from BBC Breaking News twitter.

This really could bite back at us there could be serious repercussions, are we sure he is really dead not a cover up, if he is dead, surely his #2 or #3 aide will take over.
I hope it doesn't result in Al-Qaeda going crazy, but right now, the positive feelings throughout America, particularly for those who lost friends and family on 9/11, it must be brilliant.
Tbh, it doesn't make a jot of difference in the big picture. It's been some years since bin Laden was that prominent, and if anything the US have just prodded al Qaeda into inevitable reprisals no doubt.

I'm sure they would have some failsafe option if this happened, but you don't know. It's going to be very demoralising for them anyway, I'm sure many thought Bin Laden would die of natural causes before the Americans got to him. Anyway its hugely symbolic as it's already been mentioned. But it's taken ten years. To me it seems very certain Pakistan knew where he was/has been (although I'm expecting them to deny all knowledge). He was hundreds of yards away from the biggest military camp in Pakistan, can't be a coincidence!

While I'm obviously not sorry to see the back of Bin Laden I can't help feeling uneasy about the way some Americans are celebrating. That can only increase the likelihood of a retaliatory attack.

Agreed. I understand people feeling joy at this event (particularly those who lost loved ones to Osama), but Jesus talk about fanning the flames...

Al Qaeda are already going to be baying for blood, and then they're going to see Americans hosting a giant RAVE PARTY to celebrate their leader being shot in the head. They seem to think that just because Osama is dead, that it means it's all over. It's almost INVITING retaliation.

Well hooray for that!

I do hope MI5 and the CIA are on the ball otherwise there is going to be a very large number of people killed. It's not a matter of if, but when they start to retaliate.
