Does the new song by GaGa this week mean they've already given up on Judas?

No. It's a promotional single for the album.

Can't wait to hear it either. Its apparently a huge rock ballad, but also a vintage Gaga dance tune :)

Rolling Stone described it as: "a massive power ballad with heavy club beats that features Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band wailing on his saxophone — but somehow it all seems totally natural when you actually hear it. There’s an element of cheesiness to it, but it’s totally captivating and incredibly catchy. If any of these new Gaga tunes demands to be a big fat hit, this is it."

According to most people on this website, a song can't have club beats and also be a ballad. :kink:

I don't know. Possibly, but I don't think Judas is doing that badly, and lots of artists which had extremely successful singles still released extra promo singles (e.g. BEPs and Boom Boom Pow, Katy Perry and California Gurls, etc.).

Isn't that what BTW and Judas are?

I'm not expecting big sales for her album, if they really scrapping the barrel to release a single track from the album already.

Come on 3 singles in the top 40 a remedy for disaster. Don't know why her record comapny are pulling all the stops for a 3rd single its just another nail for her album release.

"ducks for cover now for flying objects" :(

:yahoo:

Those are official pre-album singles. A promo single is a digital-only, entirely non-promoted (except for being released early) single that may eventually become a true single.

For example:

I Gotta Feeling = Official single

Imma Be = Promo single (later became official)

Teenage Dream = Official single

Not Like The Movies = Promo single

In most cases, the promo singles are part of an iTunes countdown or something similar. They do chart fairly high sometimes, depending on the artist (Taylor Swift had all of her promo singles for Speak Now chart within the top 20, and all but one in the top 10 of the BBH).

Isn't Robyn much loved on this forum? She seems to be the queen of club/dancefloor ballads. :P

I think you are missing the point completely of 'Edge of Glory''s release, Mikey. It's a promotional single (like Black Eyed Peas did with 'The E.N.D.' and Katy Perry did for 'Teenage Dream' etc.) Didn't GaGa also do it for 'The Fame Monster'? I think it'll help her tbh. Especially considering 'Edge of Glory' was originally intended to be the debut release...

But so many other artists have done it, and it's worked out fine for them.

Katy Perry released like 5 songs before releasing her album, I think, and to say this era has been successful for her is a massive understatement.

And all of Taylor Swift's promo singles went to #1 on US iTunes each week!! Can't've been fun for them.

I'm with Martin on this one.

Isn't it just one of those countdown to album releases that happen quite regularly, like what Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry did to build up hype?

So yes it probably will be a remedy for disaster

I can't understand his points though. 3 singles in the top 40? Isn't that a good thing?! Didn't hurt Rihanna. And I'm sure Lady Gaga had 3 songs in the top 40 together back in 2009 at some point.

And with Katy Perry, she had California Gurls, Circle the Drain, E.T., Not Like the Movies and Teenage Dream all get in the top 20 on US iTunes before the album release.

And travel forward 9 months, and E.T. is #1!

He probably meant recipe.

That was 'Marry the Night'. :P

I should learn to shut up [/fillinblankcomment]

I guess she is using it as a promotional tool, while the other tracks are still in the chart.

You think? :P
Going back to the original comment at the top of the page, though, I hope they haven't. She still hasn't really performed it anywhere besides Ellen, there's still time to climb.

She's performing it on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (as well as 'Born This Way'). If its not Top 10 by then, without a doubt it'll climb into it after the performance has aired.

so this should be a slightly more exciting week than I'd hoped- Yasmin and the Good Child Foundation should go top 40, the Good Child could even go top 10 if it has a physical release

plus I think Gaga and Take That will probably make a late dent in the charts

I stand corrected. Very limited time

17. Just Can't Get Enough - The Good Child Foundation

27. Finish Line (Radio Edit) - Yasmin

78. Sun Is Up (UK Radio Edit) - Inna

111. Just Can't Get Enough (Acoustic Version) - The Good Child Foundation

139. Finish Line (Freemason's Pegasus Club Mix) - Yasmin

195. Born This Way (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

200. I Feel Pretty / Unpretty (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

232. Somewhere Only We Know (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

270. Open Your Eyes (Radio Edit) - Alex Metric & Steve Angello

290. Finish Line (Freemason's Pegasus Radio Edit) - Yasmin

We could have two completely unrelated songs with the same title in the top 20 this week if TGCF don't plummet and BEP hold on :o When was the last time that happened?

Not surprised Alex & Steve are flopping. :( It is really average though to be honest, expected more from Alex Metric and Steve Angello.
