Good to see Inna climbing. I hope she can get top 10!! :D

And we have 3 non-club songs in the top 10! :o (Jessie J, Take That, Bruno Mars) Gosh, that seems weird.

The #1 seems unpredictable now, but I think it'll become slightly clearer by Sunday tbh. We often have weeks where you don't have a clue who'll be #1, but by the end of the week it's obvious.

...and both GaGa songs?

Hope Gaga can snatch #1 for Official Chart on Sunday, was #7 in the mids today.

It fully deserves #1 IMO, especially after BTW missed out (not that the two are related lol) - speaking of which, i'm glad BTW is holding up well in the top 30 :)

What?

I'd say they're both definitely club songs. The Edge of Glory is a ballad, but it's still very suitable for club play. A good way to tell if songs are good in clubs are by the drum patterns.

Lady Gaga is one of the biggest dance-pop artists of our generation!! It's not a bad thing to be played in clubs (like some people try to make it out to be).

In that case, everything apart from Take That is a 'club song' because I've heard both The Lazy Song and Nobody's Perfect in clubs recently!

Yeah. I think pretty much every song in the charts has gotten played in clubs (yes, even Birdy ).

But yes, Gaga gets played everywhere in clubs.

But if we don't include Gaga, then half the top 10 aren't club bangers!! :o :D

I think Skinny Love would completely kill the atmosphere if it was played in the clubs I usually go to  I can't imagine how people would react to it - it's not like they could drunkenly sing along to it like most people would to Someone Like You, as Skinny Love isn't quite as ingrained into popular culture - it would be more likely to clear the dancefloor!

Hooray for the return of variety :cheer: Hopefully 2 or 3 Eurovision songs can make the iTunes top 40 next week to shake it up a bit further genre wise, although I fear that one of those two or three is VERY likely to be Jedward :(

I don't really follow Eurovision, but I thought most of the songs they do there are dance-pop too? Or am I just being guilty of European stereotyping? :kink:

Skinny Love's success is a bit bizarre to be honest - maybe one week in the top 30 would be about right but it looks likely to get its tenth straight week top 30 this week! :o As I keep saying, I really wish it could have been the Bon Iver original getting all this success, but at least the public knows the song now. I can see it being used in BGT/XF quite a bit (also Someone Like You, not that it'll need the extra promo anyway :P)

The iTunes run of Skinny Love is a bit odd too, it went top 10 on iTunes on its first week in the top 40 (it had made a few brief appearances outside the top 40 on iTunes before that when it got the occasional play on R1) and charted at #25. It's not yet returned to the top 10 on iTunes but it's beaten that peak 4 times now. (Maybe 5 times this week? Although it's probably more likely to fall a bit)

And Someone Like You is now starting to properly fall a bit, now down to #18.

The only one that could actually chart high is Blue IF they win the contest. (there is a good chance of that happening imo, they will finish within top5 no matter what)

Jedward? :puke2:

ANd no most of ESC songs are not dance, they are just trash... :P

Wow. It was just outside the top 10 two days ago! :o She's basically in freefall! :(

But apparently Rolling in the Deep has just got #1 in the US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hot_1..._of_2011_(U.S.) So Adele must be over the moon now!!!!?! :cheer:

How Buzzjack-friendly are the US #1s? We have Lady Gaga, followed by Katy Perry, followed by Rihanna, and now Adele! I think we just need Kylie Minogue and Leona Lewis now.

WOO! :yahoo: :cheer: :w00t:

How bizarre Rolling In The Deep can go to #1 in the USA but not here...

'21' has had 4 runs at #1 in the USA :o Up to last week its run is 1-1-2-1-3-3-1-2-1-1- (I assume it's got a 7th week at #1 this week as well?)

Also, SLY isn't exactly in freefall, a lot of its fall is just stuff overtaking it (GaGa, TT, Inna, Yasmin) and the other songs that have overtaken are all newer than it anyway. It's still the oldest song in the top 18 by some margin (in terms of how long since it entered the top 40 of course - I Need A Dollar is far older as an actual song :P)

Sooo glad Gaga's got to number 1 - hope she holds it till Sunday, and gets there officially  I'm worried Take That's exposure may topple her though :(
This May has definitely been better than last years, May last year had some terrible releases what with roll deep having 3 weeks at no.1 and that dizzee rascal song somehow getting to number 1

E.T. is also pretty ancient. It got released almost a year ago now! :o

Nobody's Perfect and Sun Is Up have probably been around a long while too, although I haven't specifically checked for the dates (I might do if I get bored ).

May 2010 was when the year was just beginning to take off for me. Music was terrible in the first part of 2010 (the biggest hits were what? Under Pressure, In My Head, Riverside, Blah Blah Blah, Baby and Replay? :puke:), but I remember May 2010 was actually really good. I remember absolutely loving some of the top 10s!! :D

I go away for 18 hours and on my return there's been so much change. :D

Didn't expect 'The Edge Of Glory' to be #1 but I already prefer this to 'Judas' (massive disappointment compared to the initial hype) and 'Born This Way' so it's the first new Lady GaGa single I've liked a lot.

Then there's Take That shooting up to #6 since its release this morning. I've yet to hear 'Love Love' so I hope it's a good song.

If Lady GaGa and Take That end up top 2 on iTunes for the rest of the week and maintain a big lead then Sunday's chart will definitely be very interesting.

Also, anybody noticed 4 of the top 10 songs have credited producers now? I think that's the point when you really know the charts are going dance!! :D
