Posted May 11, 201114 yr We all know how Radio 1 badly treats the chart on a Sunday with lots of mistakes, top 40 not getting played in full, the odd climber getting left out, gets shafted to an hour slot because of Radio 1's One Big Weekend, waffling on, etc etc, ain't it about time for someone else to actually broadcast it with a better DJ, someone who knows what they are talking about, with stats and relevant information. Get it off your chest in here ^_^
May 11, 201114 yr I see what you mean. I'm not sure really. Radio 1 is like the "main" radio station, so it makes sense for it to do it from that perspective.
May 11, 201114 yr I voted No, but meant to click Yes :drama: the charts should be done professionally, and not done with stupid games, too much irrelevant chat and songs missed out (although tbf, it doesn't seem to skip as many any more), plus just lack of any sort of caring about the chart- such as and almost certainly this year, in which the whole 11-40 section will be skipped and the top 10 played, and irrelevant crap in between with no relation to the charts (eg. 'Reggie Derulo' last year) Radio 2 (or at least a different f***ing host) would be ideal imo
May 11, 201114 yr Radio 1 are terrible, which is why the fake chart gets more listeners. It would be better if Reggie was not the presenter, but even still...... Edit:Radio 2 would be better. Edited May 11, 201114 yr by starryeyed
May 11, 201114 yr Honestly, I couldn't care less. I choose to not listen to Radio 1 because it's not just the Chart Show that bugs me about the station overall. I rely completely on my trusty WinAmp and listen to whatever I want, whenever I want. Who needs the radio - and radio bosses specifically - dictating what music I should be listening to. Pfft!!! :D Should OCC find another Radio Station to host the chart Yes No I don't care <--- it's all about "I don't care"
May 11, 201114 yr I'd like to see an alternative version of the chart show on Radio 2. If the BBC made it clear that listeners had a choice it would be interesting to see which show got the bigger audience. The midweek update on Radio 1 has generally been an Oasis of calm (I'm watching the 90s indie Seven Ages Of Rock programme on iPlayer). Then came today's dreadful programme with a load of puerile rubbish between the songs. The BBC wouldn't accept such a low standard for a football highlights programme. They would make sure the presenter had some idea what he/she was talking about. Why can't they treat the chart show with the same respect?
May 11, 201114 yr It's just the presenter that's the problem imo - Reggie needs to go! They need to bring in Greg James quick.

Why can't they treat the chart show with the same respect? Sadly the BBC see the chart show as a 'normal' show as it is presented in the same style as the other shows on R1. You are quite right though Simon!
May 11, 201114 yr It wouldn't make any logical sense for it to be on Radio 2. They play hardly any music that is actually in the charts, whilst Radio 1 play a lot of music that makes up the charts. Plus, audience-wise, a lot of Radio 2's regular listeners are probably people who have little or no interest in the charts, so I'm not sure how happy they'd be if you suddenly put the top 40 in another show's slot on the schedule. It'd be a bit like rebranding the 1Xtra Chart and moving it to 6Music or something. That said, I don't really care. Like Histastic said, I barely listen to the chart anymore. I stopped listening to it weekly once Mark Goodier stopped doing it in 2002. For me there was never a satisfactory replacement and I listened to it far more casually from then on, compared to the days when he did it where I would literally take my walkman out with me so I wouldn't miss it if I happened to be going out at the time  Edited May 11, 201114 yr by superbossanova

Radio 2 are only playing two records from the top 40. Don't blame them either - nothing in there is relevant to anyone over 21. There's so little variety in the top 40 now.
May 11, 201114 yr I lost interest in the chart in the days when there were 15 new entries every week, 13 of which would fall out within a couple weeks. I only started listening to the chart show again when the rules changed to allow all downloads to count. That meant I jumped from Mark Goodier to JK and Joel. What a horrible leap that was.
May 11, 201114 yr To be fair, Heart FM somehow manage to play the Big Top 40 Show (and ironically there's more variety in that than the rest of the music they play put together, and that's really saying something!!!).

Capital would be perhaps but we don't even have that down here.

I don't think they even played When Love Takes Over, which was much more Heart-friendly. Although I think the Heart playlists vary depending on location. I've never heard Grenade on the Heart I get. They seemed to go from Just the Way You Are to The Lazy Song. And I've only just started hearing Price Tag, Perfect and Only Girl on them, yet other Heart stations have been playing them for a couple of months now. And their most recently played song? Oh, Empire State of Mind.... SHOCKING! But yes, I think Heart are closer to the charts than Radio 2. Although I think Heart must have difficulty keeping in line with the charts, seeing as they don't like rapping and autotune. Capital would be okay, since all they basically do is have the top 40 on repeat all week anyway. Although, as you said, not everybody in the country gets Capital. Or they could do like the Big Top 40 Show, where they have like 150 commercial radio stations all broadcast the chart at the same time.
May 11, 201114 yr Heart shouldn't really be given the charts- as they'll just miss out anything that's not 'adult contemporary' and thus we'll get the same songs every week -_- I can see them missing a lot of the current charts I was listening to them in 2006 with the 'A List' and they always missed out songs like My Chemical Romance, Meat Loaf, the Zutons- and just played the same artists every week, and the chart just became fixed towards their station- it was so crap <_< Edited May 11, 201114 yr by chart wizard
May 11, 201114 yr The OCC would always want the chart show to be available throughout the UK which is where the BBC have the advantage.
May 11, 201114 yr No, they should not. Radio 1 is the main radio station, so should have the chart show. The 'awful' job they do of it is incredibly over-exaggerated on this forum, the only problem is Reggie. If Greg James did it premantly, it would be great.
