Unfortunately probably so! There might be about 5 you don't know, and for at least two there's probably a reason!

It's not the most little known of CDs but apart from maybe a couple it's not exactly known either. Two of the littlest known I got from you anyway! :D

Oh, in that case maybe it would be better going to someone else...

If we run another of these, I really do think that anyone who hasn't reviewed should be banned from the next one. It's not at all on to take part, get the new music, and then ignore the rewarding bit for your compiler. As Mark has said, it's 7 1/2 weeks since this began and there's no way any of us are that busy that we wouldn't have had time to do a review by now.

I'm assuming I might also know quite a lot of Mark's tracks. If not, I'll give them a listen although I've got to do Unknown Pleasures first.
If both Suedehead and Dandy are going to be too familiar with Mark's tracks, I'll take it instead. Although I'd need a few days to get a review out.

Can you just post a list of what was on it and that way we can youtube any that we're interested in hearing...

Jesus Jones! :D

That song still sounds good after all this time :D

Love that Idlewild track! And Rock & Roll Queen is soooo cool!

Rock & Roll Queen is a great song. I saw The Subways in 2005 in Paris on the same bill as Hard-Fi, The Futureheads and Kaiser Chiefs :D

The following night I saw Editors and Arctic Monkeys. Most of the audience were there for the headliners (Antony & The Johnsons) and were utterly bewildered by the Arctics who were almost unknown in France at the time (this was a couple weeks after Dancefloor made number one here).

I have a notepad file of my review! Date motified 23/6/11 0.04 (Y). Unfortunately I hadn't finished the first 3 and final song. I did quite like track #1 of those, I seem to remember.

4) Indie pop from a generic band that I've probably seen live before but were so anonymous I simply couldn't remember them. Little Comets maybe?

5) Now I HAVE seen these! The Subways - Rock & Roll Queen. They're quite dull listening at my computer, if I'm honest, but they managed to stretch this song out to be 8 minutes long or so live. Very good, mostly because of nostalgia, but very good it is.

6) More generic indie pop, except with a Xylophone and vocal harmonies? Yayyay, much improved over #4

7) Ooh, female vocals. Not much else I can say about this though, sorry!

8) Now this is a lot better, plenty of noise <3. It definitely reminds me of Metric - Empty, but with rather different vocals. A keeper for sure.

9) This is QUITE GOOD, but I have very little to say about it. I'm liking the slight shift from indie-pop to indie-rock though.

10) I'm sure I've heard this! I really, really can't think of what it is though. It's nice, but doesn't stand out from the previous 7 songs though.

11) I'm quite liking the noise up to 3.12, but this track doesn't seem all that special to me. I think it's some sort of 90's indie rock / britpop, that I find a little bland.

12) This is quite LOVELY and HEAVY. I'm thinking that the anonymymity of the songs means that I can't distinguish between each one when they're of the same genre. I need the ability to be PREJUDICED by song title and band!

13) OOH OOH LO-FI / SHOEGAZE / LATE 80's INDIE POP OMG. I should probably know who this is by, but I don't, I'd very much like to know though as I certainly like it :D

14) Best Coast right? I could never get into her </3 It's a little like the above, except not quite so good.

15) Trip-Hop sorta sounds  very nice.

16) I have most certainly heard this, and I'm pretty sure it was on the 1st August 2010 in the deepest, darkest Derbyshire hills, and that it's Blood Red Shoes. I've never heard this in MP3 format though, so thankyou. Oh and I don't actually know what the song is called, ha.

17) Oh I LIKE this intro, mmm <3. Similar to the bunch from 3-12, except far better than most of them. I enjoyed.

18) Within the first note I knew it was James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream. GOOD GOD what a wonderful piece of music.

I don't know about my love,

I don't know about my lovin' anymore,

All that I know is

I'm fallin'

fallin'

fallin'

fallin'

Might as well fall in.

19) Whether these Scottish vocals are lovely are GRATING is something I haven't decided yet. It's definitely not my sort of thing, which is a shame as it's destroyed the momentum of good/great songs from 12-18.

And just to add on, now that I've been listening to this CD for a while -

My most played of the CD:

13 - 15 plays

16 - 8 plays

1 - 6 plays

12 - 6 plays

15 - 6 plays

I could say 'yes, sorry I was very busy' etc., but even though I was, it's also true that I had time to finish the CD review so it's a redundant excuse really. I'll often not enter things if I'm not in the mood to complete them. But the CD swap had a long time to complete the review, and it only comes around once a year or so, maybe more often, so I thought why not! The pressure from a few forum posts is a lot less than me saying to myself 'doing badly in this will send your predicted grades crashing right down', if I'm honest. My time management is poor in general but awful if the negative consequences don't amount to that much in the grand scheme of things. Sorry everyone!

Ok, my reply!

There is no underlying theme of the CD really, it's just a collection of songs I really enjoy that I felt should be heard. I don't know as much 'unknown' music as most people on here do so it's never the easiest task compiling one of these, so when I'd narrowed my 50+ song list down It was all songs which depending on who it fell to, the listener could know none or all 20!

4) Indie pop from a generic band that I've probably seen live before but were so anonymous I simply couldn't remember them. Little Comets maybe?

Whilst I do generally agree here I seem to like the Maccabees far more than I actually should. 'About Your Dress' is a great short song.

5) Now I HAVE seen these! The Subways - Rock & Roll Queen. They're quite dull listening at my computer, if I'm honest, but they managed to stretch this song out to be 8 minutes long or so live. Very good, mostly because of nostalgia, but very good it is.

I did think this would be one of the more well known songs on this, but it's a song I've always loved and I

6) More generic indie pop, except with a Xylophone and vocal harmonies? Yayyay, much improved over #4

I'm From Barcelona are so much better than generic! :o It is great.

7) Ooh, female vocals. Not much else I can say about this though, sorry!

I love Monkey Swallows The Universe, and I have Dandy to thank for that entirely! Their album 'The Casket Letters' is rather marvellous and 'Matterhoney' is one of my favourites on it.

8) Now this is a lot better, plenty of noise <3. It definitely reminds me of Metric - Empty, but with rather different vocals. A keeper for sure.

This was entered into Unknown Pleaseres back on ChC and I loved it then. I downloaded their album but I didn't think it was up to much. Not as punchy as this.

9) This is QUITE GOOD, but I have very little to say about it. I'm liking the slight shift from indie-pop to indie-rock though.

The Supergrass Best Of is one of the best singles collections I heard. This was their debut single from 1994 and has always been one of my favourites of theirs!

10) I'm sure I've heard this! I really, really can't think of what it is though. It's nice, but doesn't stand out from the previous 7 songs though.

I'm sure even if you'd not heard it you'd have recognised Ben Gibbard's voice. My favourite album track from their previous album.

11) I'm quite liking the noise up to 3.12, but this track doesn't seem all that special to me. I think it's some sort of 90's indie rock / britpop, that I find a little bland.

That's a shame. Idlewild are one of my favourite bands of all time, this is from their first album, before they turned more bland!

12) This is quite LOVELY and HEAVY. I'm thinking that the anonymymity of the songs means that I can't distinguish between each one when they're of the same genre. I need the ability to be PREJUDICED by song title and band!

The Duke Spirit are very hit and miss for me, but this is a brilliant song, certainly their best.

13) OOH OOH LO-FI / SHOEGAZE / LATE 80's INDIE POP OMG. I should probably know who this is by, but I don't, I'd very much like to know though as I certainly like it biggrin.gif

Male Bonding, I don't think I've seen anyone other than Ben post about them. It was actually released last year and their album is my favourite discovery of the year. It's all pretty much in the same vein, short retro influenced punchy songs.

14) Best Coast right? I could never get into her </3 It's a little like the above, except not quite so good.

It took about 6 months before I really clicked with Best Coast. I absolutely love the album now and the title track is just so good.

15) Trip-Hop sorta sounds wub.gif very nice.

DJ Shadow isn't someone I've ever really been able to get into but I did always have a soft spot for this 2007 single.

You are correct. I think this is a great song. It's so different to their other output, it's just lovely.

17) Oh I LIKE this intro, mmm <3. Similar to the bunch from 3-12, except far better than most of them. I enjoyed.

Fixers are rapidly becoming my favourite new band of the year. Their "Here Comes 2001 So Let's All Head For The Sun" EP is great. When I first heard this one, it sounded like everything good about 'Merriweather Post Pavilion' rolled into one four minute song. I read about them online and it seems a lot of others see the AC similarities too.

18) Within the first note I knew it was James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream. GOOD GOD what a wonderful piece of music.

Probably the most known piece of music on this CD but I checked his thread and barely anyone had posted in it so I thought he's perhaps not as well known as I'd thought. 'Wilhelm Scream' is one of my favourite singles of the year.

19) Whether these Scottish vocals are lovely are GRATING is something I haven't decided yet. It's definitely not my sort of thing, which is a shame as it's destroyed the momentum of good/great songs from 12-18.

Malcolm Middleton, another I have Dandy to thank for! He's released some really good singles over the last few years but I've not been able to get into his music.

Overall I'm pleased with this review that there's quite a few songs you like and I expected you to know more of it.
